An alternative is to take MRT / underground / from Lumpini station , steps from your hotel,  to Sukhumvit station, from there you can walk along  Sukhumvit to mouth of soi 11 / 5 minutes if you don't stop at market stalls / or  if you feel lazy it's one stop from Asok BTS  to Nana   / hardly worth climbing stairs to the station/ .
 
Asok BTS is practically on top of Sukhumvit MRT, you need separate ticket though

Every motocy driver at the head of soi 11 knows HERO so it's easy but I'd still walk just to level heart beat if you going there first time. Don't worry about sweat -you will be showered by the boy

It was also quiet when I was there in April -except for Boysbangkok; as usual it was absolutely packed with Chinese customers, although I only saw a couple of guys being offed. The beer bars were pretty empty.
Even if the majority of Chinese tourists decide to give Thailand a miss, there are still so many of them that they can still fill up a bar. I get the impression that Chinese gays are told back in China that Boysbangkok and Dreamboys are the 2 must-see bars in Bangkok, so they all flock there and give the other bars a miss.

I don't base my visits on other's feedbacks or reports. My tastes are very peculiar.

Very low numbers of customers, see reports elsewhere (Sawatdee gay Thailand, cruisingforsex/Thailand). They have call-in masseurs (book in advance).
 
For newcomers, I would recommend to go to well established places.

It's easy enough to get to. From the Nana BTS, take Soi 11 to the "T", go left and you'll fine yourself heading toward the canal. Hero is on the left, almost to the end. About a 10-15 minute walk. Nice in the evening, a bit sweaty on a hot afternoon. You can always catch a motocy taxi from Sukhumvit/Soi 11, if you wish. The food and service at Chili Culture (at that T intersection) are both good.  At the risk of repeating myself, I'm adding day/night/basic room images of Hero.

reading last comments I just realized that riding a minibar without permission goes almost hand in hand with  underperformance , the same goes with turning TV right after entry.
 
5 out of 6 boys I was not entirely happy on my last trip did either although the worst one actually did not , compensating for that by staying on the phone most time until I threw him out, still escorting him to the lobby as everybody else

I can't answer for the service or massage, but I have been hanging out on Soi Twilight the last couple of nights, and there are several boys that I would have no problem hiring. Lots of boys sitting out front the the massage places, with lots of cuteness.

I wouldn't  be too fast to cross them out just because of negative feedback from others even if warranted as per kalabao post.
 
I visit them on every trip and never was disappointed with boys and service, I like their décor too. I like their boys selection and fact that they present themselves at front which is much less intimidating than going inside and having to make in face decision like in most other places. Even fact that boys seem to be more interested in their phones than passing traffic had advantages as one can pass by without being pestered for  accustom  like in other places down the soi.
 
But I guess we all have our preferences.

While Up2you is on correct side of equation I would not be so sure that service charges are actually sipping into waiters pockets.
 
Depending on size of bill and waiter's smile I'd probably still tip 20-40 baht from time to time but don't feel pressured to do that.

military intervention would only make sense if would lead to speedy elections / 2 months from the coup max / and guarantee from military that whoever wins will have full backing from army. But this is day dreaming, not only in Thailand. Military tends to screw things up as you can't run country the same way you run armed forces
 
 Word from you know who to support elected government and asking for crowds to disperse would help but this is another day dreaming  in circumstances.
 
It leaves monetary solution - if economy will start hurting than three's rare chance for big business and Issan  farmers to be in the same boat and demand speedy end to all this BS, another day dreaming but most probable and less hurtful in terms of blood shed.
 
After all some deep pockets are financing 6 months of unrest in BKK
 
UN has better things to do that getting involved in internal problems of still fairly stable country IMHO.
 
Michael as an American you may not realize that there are people in the world for whom Sept 11 has completely different meaning that for Americans and rest of world. Those are Chileans , Sept 11-1973 was date of Pinochet's coup.

That doesn't make sense, a coup is military force. Things have changed since the last coup. YL and the red shirts have military sympathetic to their cause. Remember the vast majority of the grunts, the soldiers, were drafted and come from red shirt land. Many are the boys from bars, our friends, our sweethearts. Do you really think they will fire on their own family, relatives and friends(rhetorical question). It will be funny when the top heavy bureaucratic army generals turn around and say "where did everybody go?". I have heard it said this one reason there hasn't been a coup, it would not be like the last coup, it would be civil war. Let's hope common sense prevails.

I will never haggle over a rate. I agreed to something and even if they don't meet expectations, I give them what was agreed upon and never see them again. But, will go back and try another boy. If mamasan says how about the same boy, I'll say no and tell her why. She needs to know but I would not make a big deal over it. It may be we just didn't click.
 
I am always very careful and upfront and tell what I want and how much I will pay and I rarely get disappointed.
 
I did once get disappointed in Sunee Plaza and took a waiter and gave him zero tip and zero taxi (but gave him the going rate). When I went back the next day, the staff all knew what I had given him (yes they all discuss us as much as we discuss them). They all said, "Wow, I know you long time and you never not give boy tip. This boy must have been really really bad." I just said yes and moved on. I still think the lad is cute and I still chatted with him and was friendly. No need to make a mountain out of a molehill. Shit happens. Get over it quickly. Move on. Plenty of more boys in LOS to let one encounter spoil a holiday or even a night.
 
If truly horrible experience, call another boy you know and have him come over. It defiantly will get the bad taste out of your mouth quick and the boy will be thrilled to have the extra income.

I'm in this situation in respect of recent events - not happy that concert of  mob and judiciary removed elected official but happy that sister of former  prime minister is no longer in the same position as I hate dynastic politics in democracy.
