Divine Madman said it all but I add that if I consider something important for me / kissing , yes ! / I talk directly to a boy in question.

First, never sure what info mamasan is passing on to a boy, second , to give a boy a chance to answer for himself, is not unknown that for a right client boys may evaluate their inhibitions and always an optimist I usually hope to be that customer.

To answer OP question , yes , if min tip for 1 hr is 1000+ , I'd expect  full service but still it must be cleared with boy what that means.

few times in various bars I had similar  suggestion but I always try to convert such request  to  an off, either right away with boy I'm taking already or to arrange meeting in my room in near future.

Even one of our members once asked if I can help boy who did not get an off for  awhile so i made boy sitting with me  for a good hour and tipped well for allowing some decent but clingy intimacy in the bar.

But I'd not tip boy just for fact that he is friend of the boy I happen to be with, no,  tip must be earned somehow but I like idea of boys supporting each other and I'm very receptive to idea of offing their friends is asked.

Paborn your reference to the Ambiance maze brings back memories for me. Once I brought back a boy I had offed and then had to wander about with him trying to locate my room looking for landmarks, such as a statue to help me. Very embarrassing !. On another occasion I had a GR boy turn up at reception. They phoned me and I told them to send him up. After 5 minutes he had not arrived at my door so I had to go in search of him in the corridors, where I found him. However I still have many happy memories of the place As an iconic hotel for gays.

No surprise here , we humans like to discuss other people money but get ballistic when somebody tries to discuss ours.

On subject of tipping I sit firmly on both sides of fence. I support ChristianPFC's idea that habit of tipping is evil  , depriving workers chance to get decent pay on the legs of logic that they will be tipped.

On another hand I tend to follow local customs and where is known tips are expected I do too.

In Thailand I tend to follow my own tipping rules  but from time to time   I exceed it generously. I like to see smiling faces. Brighten my holidays.

I tend to hand tip directly to a person being tipped and try to do it discretely. In some places it ensures tip is theirs  but in others it still will be pooled but I leave that part to waiters if they will share or not.

Jupiter is only place I don't tip waiters as 'thank you ' gesture for not giving me a change from 500 on 400 off fee despite of me waiting for it  a good while, like 15 minutes. After I save 200 baht on not given tips I will start tipping them again / 80 baht to save left /

In defence of all three Boyztown hotels / Ambiance , Cale Royal and Copa / I need to say that I stay many times in all of them and never found bar and street noise to be very big nuisance.

Bigger one for me is navigating maze of corridors in Ambiance and fact that all soi sees who is my next companion but I like attention and I'm good finding way in the wild  so still stay there gladly.

    Prelude
It’s mid-afternoon, early evening, Wednesday.  In nine hours, I’ll leave the Tarntawan for my 23 hour "commute"to the San Francisco Bay Area.  I just said goodbye to Min, who has taken care of me these past two days. Well, he’s one of the guys who have taken care of me....

I arrived at 11pm, Tuesday last week. That was a 25 hour travel day...when I was packing, I looked of the planes scheduled to arrive at BKK the same time as my ANA flight and found two dozen flights, the majority from China.  My mind reeled with the thought of the lines at immigration.  I thank PaulSF for telling me how he is met on arrival, and I decided to book a service to meet me at the plane and ease my entry.  Cost was $39 USD.  I only had carry-on: a small suitcase and a backpack.  From the time I stepped off the plane, walked the moving walkways, paused at immigration to smile at the camera, and out of customs was about 11 minutes.

A friend arranged for a friend of his to meet me at Door 3, he was there, and I was on my way to The Raya Hotel. Quick check in, my room on the newly opened 3rd floor.  Since it wasn’t yet midnight, I went to Twilight and saw a number of familiar faces.

The familiar faces included the “customer grabbers” at Hot Male (who now have matching shirts), the waiters at Maxi’s, and Net and X from Hot Male Bar 2.  It was nice to feel welcomed - even if it was somewhat transactional.  I took the steps up to Hot Male go go. There is now a post midnight show and it was about to start so I told one boy who had been dry humping me as I climbed the stairs that I’d see him tomorrow (note: I never saw him again during the visit and hope he was offed by someone deserving for the whole time).

Back to HM2, some drinks with Net and X.  Net and I have some history from a visit in the Spring.  He is lots of fun in private and open to at least anything I’ve come up with.  So we adjourned to The Raya and explored the newly furnished room and a few other things.  I thanking the travel gods for the inspiration to find a way (legal) to minimize the time at Swampy.  Last few visits, I wouldn’t get to town before 1am or later when even Screwboys was locking up.

When I planned this visit, I knew that it would be definitely different than past visits.  For anyone who has perused some of my other reports, Van, my Vietnamese companion, perpetual off, and helper in finding me other companions,  isn’t part of the visit.  He’s out of the business (he was part of the rotation and show at Hot Male - and is still in it’s Thai Puan ads).  He’s working back in Vietnam with his own business.

So, I’m a butterfly for the eight days I’m in Thailand.  Three days in Bangkok, two in Pattaya, and three more back in Bangkok.

One general note: I pay for services at the going market rate. So short time in Bangkok is 2000 THB, long-time 3000.  In Pattaya, it’s 1500 for short time and I didn’t discuss long time, though the Toy Boys mamasan said 2000 plus.

Another note is that I generally get along with the mamasans.  This is something, I share with Numazu.  I use them for information on the boys, where they are from, what the do or don’t do, etc. Cost is usually a drink. Caveat, there is at least one mamasan that drives me up a wall, but I solve that by not going to her club.

And...this trip would have been less successful without the PMs I've had with Reader, DivineMadman, and PaulSF.

Now 23 hours to home and continuing this report

I stopped staying at the Ambiance because of the terrible noise from the early morning karioki, which killed the desire for sex with boys I had offed. I was thinking about giving it a another try, but probably not hearing about this latest development.

I think that Christian has hit the nail on the head, tipping is like having a religion.

Religion is like a penis. It's fine to have one and it's fine to be proud of it, but please don't whip it out in public and start waving it around... and PLEASE don't try to shove it down my throat.

    (Unless you're a gorgeous twink)

Likewise it's great to tip but there's no need to tell the world about it.

NOTE -- What do you do all day? is a question that frequently arises on the boards. Christianpfc, Vinapu and Divine Madman are among those who have recently contributed answers. Their initial destinations can turn out to be a stepping off point for unplanned additional adventures as they allow themselves to get lost en route back and discover other experiences along the way. So here's one more potential activity that may tempt us to go astray.

Culture Minister Vira Rojpojchanarat on Wednesday visited Thailand’s National Museum in Bangkok to observe the preservation process for the ancient cannon unearthed from beneath Sanam Luang last weekend.

The 3-metre gun was used in war during the early Rattanakosin era.

Museum director Nitaya Kanokmongkol said |that the process of preservation could take months, and visitors will be able to get a close-up look at how it’s done.

Tipping is like religion. Whether you believe in god or not, whether you tip or not, the outcome is the same. I can get sick and will finally die, just like someone who prays every day for health and long life. I get served in restaurants and bars just like people who tip.

Coming back to my tipping of taxi drivers. For no money in the world would I want to drive a taxi in Bangkok. Whereas serving food or drinks requires no skills, even I could do it (although that would be a waste of my many talents). But while I look up to taxi drivers for their abilities to navigate Bangkok traffic and find their way, and tip them for that, I do not tip doctors. As has been said by others, tipping customs are inconsistent and illogical.

(Tipping must be my favorite pet peeve, and prices in Soi Twilight a distant second, and public transport in Chiang Mai on third place.)

Just tip whoever u want whenever u want to. Dont feel the pressure to tip just because everyone do it. And tips accordingly as long as u can afford it. There are richie rch out there who tips their masseurs 1000usd, because they make 10million usd a month.

Tipping is the new religion, and I'm a non-believer.

As far as I know, tipping is not customary in Thailand and was brought in by tourists and is limited to tourist areas.

But staying with gogo bars, I don't tip general staff (but tip boys I touch 100 THB and boys I take home 1000 THB), and am greeted friendly by everyone every time I pass or enter.

I like it simple. I want to know in advance how it will cost me. I disapprove of menus in restaurants where VAT and/or service charge will be added. I don't think about whom to tip how much, depending on where I am in the world, I don't tip.

This argument could go on forever and there is no right or wrong. A gratuity is usually given as reward for good service and is not compulsory.

I personally leave a modest tip wherever I receive
    good service.

In most of the budget restaurants that I use the staff pool their tips to share at the end of their shift.

I tip in the bars when I pay my bin and I usually tip the boy sitting with me by stuffing a 100 baht note in his undies.

But at the end of the day it's up to the individual whether or not they tip.

    * Close to the gay host bars
    * Breakfast on the beach.

    * flirt with the guys on the beach and collect phone numbers of handsome massage workers for personal massages.
    * easy access to baht bus taxi
    * At night, going back to your room, you can meet some truly fun guys.  I will get off at Jomtien complex and walk through it as I head to my rented condo.

    Boyztown
    * I love being able to hire a guy from a bar and end up just steps away from my hotel.  I try to brush off the thought that the guys see me parade many guys to my room haha!
    * I love being close to the bars
    * I love being close to the Malls
    * I love being near walking street
    * I love the party atmosphere vibe of the area
    * I love being near Sunee Plaza
    * It's a great area for shopping.
    * At night, when the bars go dark, you can take a stroll on Walking street.
    * The street food vendors!  At night they are all around!  And the day/Night area near Tuk.com is a foodies paradise!  You can't get that in Jomtien!
