One of my close friends used to go to DJStation in his mid40s. In 1977 he met a young fulltime student from Chiang Mai there and they arranged another meeting over dinner. They have been a couple ever since then. That young Thai has lived in London with my friend for the last 18 years where he has citizenship and a good job. They got married as soon as it was legally possible.

Assumptions about who earns what and who attends DJStation are meaningless.

You get the impression that the military govt has decided to have a push on road safety.  I suppose that it is tough for them to deliver on things like the economy and other issues, but maybe this area is seen as low hanging fruit.  I've seen more traffic stops in recent visits but it will be interesting to see if the safety push has any impact on fatalities.

As one who has posted a number of trip reports over the years, I appreciate the time and effort required. So thank you for your reports ; they are some of the best I've ever read on any of the forums.

I've always steered clear of posting photos of the guys; it's a very controversial issue, fraught with danger.

Also, in the early days of writing reports I always asked the guys if I could take their photo and post it on the net and not one guy ever agreed. So I respected their wishes.

I can understand why you posted those photos without blurring the faces - you were caught up in the moment of writing and it probably never occurred to you. That's what happens, especially when you are writing such long and detailed posts.

Anyway, I loved the photos, especially of the awesome food you were enjoying.

Thanks for introducing a new destination. It's a bit far from Australia but it's now on my bucket list. The way you described your interaction with the boy in the back room, I felt like I was sitting next to you both, watching the action.

I wish you all the best!

I guess you have to strike a balance between working your budget and not being mean.  I think it is probably unlikely any guy would perform well if things start out with haggling over not very large sums of money.  Similarly I'd be pretty turned off by quotes of outlandish prices.  Just kills any kind of mood.

Yep and its not just confined to the bars.  Markets are doing the same thing seeming to bet that if they quote outrageous prices one tourist will bite.  Got to the stage that I don't even bother looking anymore. At the markets that is!

Alizizou, you lucky to have offed that guy. anyway some of the tawan guys are asking 3k nowadays. this despite the dwindling number of customers. some might say the price increase was actually caused by the decrease in customers. anyway that's thai logic for you.

There are two reason I didn't counter offer (I've read enough posts on here from others to figure out what's fair): I very much doubt the boy would have got more than 1000B of the 3000B so his cut would no doubt have been severely reduced. Secondly I think if you're going to quote unrealistic prices, you deserve to get no business until you do.

Arrived at Suvarnabhumi on Monday morning to massive queues at immigration. Went to the far left queue and had a stroke of luck when an official ushered me round a screen into the area reserved for Thai Royal Silk customers. In and out in 15 minutes maximum!

Took the metro to Silom and walked to the Raya hotel where I'd booked the previous night to be sure of an early check in. I've grown to like this hotel now I'm accustomed to the quirks designed to inflict pain on the unwary, such as the wood plinth around the bed, the large step across the bathroom door and the tiny step down into the corridor outside the room.

Once unpacked, showered and relaxed, I headed to The Prime massage for a 2 hour jet lag busting oil massage. I have to say it was one of the best I've had anywhere. All very professional. Curiously I found myself massively aroused through the whole thing even though there was no explicit sexual element to massage (other than very sensual and intimate touches), much more so than if had gone to Arena, for example. Perhaps it's just the way my mind works: the thought of the potential is more exciting than the certainty!

Passed some time at Bunfe's cafe fielding unrewarding messages on Hornet but no one who took my fancy.

After dinner, I was approached in the street by a guy who led me into Super A. I've seen some discouraging reports about the place, but there was a reasonable selection of about 8 boys, including one guy who looked to be packing quite a punch in his tight boxers. But I picked a cute Laos boy to come and sit with me and share a drink and a bit of a fondle. I found it distinctly off-putting to be effectively stared at by the other 7 boys plus the two guys running the place who continually pestered me to take the boy to an upstairs room, for 3,000b which I thought was rather a lot, so mentally I decided to annoy them by not doing so. I was quite pleased when a couple of other customers came in and took the pressure off. After a couple of drinks I settled my bill and tipped the boy for his nice smile and erotic cuddle.

I wandered past the Golden Cock, somewhere I've never been, and took one look at the motley crew outside and decided it would remain unvisited.

After a cup of tea and ice cream at Dick's, I headed to Mantra massage where I've had some success with a surprising end to a foot massage. Disappointingly, I was told 'no foot massage', so onwards to Nature Boy where there were 4 boys on the stage. I picked one to come and sit with me and it wasn't long before I was fondling and sucking his nice thick cock.

I didn't feel like offing, so after tipping and settling the drinks bill, I headed to Art next to the Raya for the foot massage. A very cute guy was massaging the guy next to me and we kept exchanging glances and smiles. As I bent down to put my shoes back on, he whispered 'oil massage?' to me. Very tempting but by this stage it was getting so late I thought it might be rushed, but I whispered back that I'd consider coming back tomorrow...

I returned to the hotel and enjoyed a brief visit from a boy who'd been messaging on Hornet. A short time but very sweet and a good end to the first day.

The second day I paid a visit to Muang Boran, which I think very worthwhile. I had a pleasant time cycling round the place until I got a puncture.

I was hoping to have the oil massage with the cute guy from Art but disappointingly he appeared not to be working today. Why he didn't mention this the previous night I don't know. A missed opportunity.

I really need to understand the importance of carpe diem in Thailand. Deferred arrangements often don't happen!

If it crossed your mind that he looks too young, disregard information to the contrary and go with your instincts.

It's not a foolproof method but it's as close as you'll come.  Forget the old "Thais look so much younger than they really are." Although that may sometimes be the case, there's always another reason they look so young: they are.

Well today is the day I book my July trip, just off to the Thai Airways office to make a booking and upon return home will be booking 14 nights with the Raya. Really been hanging out for this one, I miss having those naked boys giving me massages and the fun that follows, first massage is going to be at Arena on day one. Only making plans for the flights, accommodation and the first two days at the moment and the rest will be taken as it comes, reports will be placed every few days when I'm there as I'm only taking the tab with me it will be fun typing them out (not). Shopping is high on the list of things to do but only in between massages and play time. Thanks for those that gave a good review of the Raya, I'm looking forward to trying a different hotel for a change and being ever so closer to the bars may even drag myself up Twilight a bit more often.

There was a small incident happened to me at money changer-
    Super Rich Ratchadamri branch today.
I was at a queue and all of sudden the Thai lady behind tapped my shoulder. She was holding an envelope containing over1,000 usd which I was going to change to Baht.
Heat must be really getting to me. I can't afford dropping money all over the place.
She could have easily picked up the envelope and quietly dissapeard so I was very fortunate and grateful.

All of us enjoy a good gay read, especially by someone who takes us into places and situations we may not have ventured ourselves, or with guys we can vicariously lust after.  Rather than to continue to lament Numazu absence, I offer some of my favorite gay reads from the past, any of which will hopefully take your mind off Burboy, Shanboy, et al.

City of Night (John Rechy). A young man arrives in NYC in the early 60's and soon discovers Times Square.

Dancer from the Dance (Andrew Holloran). A strikingly handsome (and otherwise innocent) young lawyer is kissed by a Puerto Rican messenger boy while working late in his Manhattan office in the mid-70's and his life changes forever. Note: it has nothing to do with ballet.

My last offering may surprise. Bangkok 8 (John Burdett). It's a first rate mystery but the author makes it clear that it's a story of the love an Amerasian detective has for his Bangkok police partner, his soul brother since boyhood.

Perhaps others have suggestions to get us through these difficult times.

Not really a victory or loss for anyone.  I think the intention  was to speak up on behalf of the guys in the photos.

But if you want to see it in terms of winning or losing, personally, I'd rather than the story stop and the guy's privacy be protected.

It would be sad if the posts were only to continue in response to an everlasting flow of adulation and that a constructive criticism here were the reason for the pause in the story.

I'd hope that here and in Thailand we try to be smart about working guys' privacy. I think many or probably most on the board see these guys as more than just products for our gratification.

This whole thing now seems to be going round in circles so I'm going to try to resist the urge to get involved again.

emailbroken reacted to forrestreid in Lawrence Osborne on Bangkok in the NY Times
Another posting on here recently mentioned the online Stickman column. As a sometimes reader of it, usually I find the best thing in it (for the gay reader anyway) is his gleanings from the newspapers of Thai related stories.

But one he missed was an article recently in the New York Times by Lawrence Osborne, talking about the neighbourhood of Bangkok (basically middle Sukhumvit) that Osborne is currently living in.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/01/travel/bangkok-thailand-city-of-spirits-culture.html?_r=0

It is called "My Bangkok - City of Spirits" and he talks about walking around the city and visiting his favourite haunts, especially late night bars.

It is well worth a look. It may be in rather purple prose, but for somebody who lives outside Thailand, like me, and visits as a tourist, it really caught the exotic feeling of modern Bangkok (including the bits they are trying to kill off, like street drinks carts) and will certainly arouse nostalgia in many forum readers.

Gave me some ideas for bars I might wish to try when I next visit too.

Osborne wrote a whole book about an earlier period he spent  living in in Bangkok, called "Bangkok Days", which is worth a look if you like style of writing in the article.

A couple of weeks ago I needed to do a visa run. Decided to go to Hanoi for a few days. All packed ready to go. Grab a taxi in front of my condo. No traffic, quick and easy ride. Friendly driver. Arrive at airport, get to check in counter, and then realize, No Wallet. I lost it in taxi. I had no idea as to which company I used. As panic sets in, I sit to try to figure out what I'm going to do. Had $200 US , debit card, one credit card and drivers license. My passport, other credit cards and a little cash in my backpack. It was my 30th day and I need to go. Nothing I could do about wallet.

Had a nice weekend in Hanoi. Saved a lot of money I might have spent. Could always do credit card advance. Back to Bangkok hoping I might get lucky and maybe left wallet in Condo. No luck. Cancel cards with banks. My bank got replacement debit card to me in 5 days with UPS,

Last night about 5 pm, knock on my door. Condo worker says taxi here. I said, didn't order taxi. Language issues. He pulls out his wallet and says taxi. Hit me, taxi there with my wallet. Went downstairs and sure enough, there is the driver holding my wallet. Wow. Everything still there, including cash. I gave him big reward. Now he was all smiles. Nobody standing around spoke English, so couldn't get story.

Today condo worker I know speaks English talked to security guy. Driver found my wallet when he got back to Bangkok. He did know where he picked me up and I was only going for a few days, yesterday he was in my neighborhood.
My drivers license with picture was in wallet, so he asked security guy if he knew me. I'm the only non-Thai living in the building. Knock on door and got it back.

Taxi drivers get a lot of bad press in Thailand, so it is really great to have a really good taxi driver story.
He really went above and beyond and has my deepest Thanks.

I've also enjoyed Numazu's thorough trip reports. I suspect he'll post again, and I'd most likely read most of them again.

I've had pointed criticisms directed at me over the years, too - 99% of them from anonymous online personas (the woods are full of them) -   but I had to learn to [1] consider the source(s) [2] admit when I'd stepped over a line, and [3] not sweat the small stuff and let it spoil my fun via sharing the stories.  I'd also suggest it's healthy to learn and grow from valid criticism.

Pardon my venturing an opinion, but looking over the last eight paragraphs of his last post on this thread it seemed like an example of the "praise me or I'll stop sharing" posts we've all seen over the years. I was taught as a child that I don't have to react to such things, so I simply offer thanks when thanks are due.

If one is actually crafting a report/post, yes they DO take time; only a jerk wouldn't appreciate that. I just give more credit to those who do them because they enjoy sharing them, that's all. If you enjoy posting the reports, Numazu - keep at it. Specific violations are the responsibility of the mods.

    From Khaosod English

BANGKOK — A shopping mall, condos, green space and more are coming to replace a 47-year-old landmark on the corner of Silom Road, which will be redeveloped into a mixed-use property, the Dusit Thani Group announced Monday.

Once the tallest building in Thailand, the Dusit Thani Hotel will be demolished and replaced with a complex consisting of a hotel, residences, an office space, a shopping mall and green space, according to the announcement. The 36-billion baht project is a partnership between the hotel group and Central Pattana, which owns 30 shopping malls nationwide under the Central brand.

Dusit Thani said the hotel will continue operating through June 2018. Development will then begin on the same land, the lease for which was recently extended another 60 years by the Crown Property Bureau. The new lease agreement will also add another 5 rai (8,000sqm) of land to the property.
