I'll try to get there this Saturday and report back

hey folks......due to a cancelled flight (two days late arrival in RJ) and my travel buddies wanting to stick with reliable 117 and 202, I didn't get to check out Lions...however, you can check out @sfcastro 's favorable report in another thread......

  2. I promised in another thread that I'd check out Lions Rio on my visit to RJ a couple weeks ago.......a combination of a very late arrival (cancelled flight on LATAM) and my buddies wanting to stick with 117 and 202 caused me to not be able to check out Lions......sorry about that, but thanks to @sfcastro for his report above

  3. during my previous visits to RJ, the airbnb coordinated an airport pickup at GIG with my then-travel partners.......this time, I'm on my own getting to my lodging after arrival.....

what is the current wisdom on taxis, ubers, lyfts from GIG to Copacabana??......is there a reliable and trusty taxi stand outside (with, possibly, some check-in person to talk to first as at other international airports?) or should I fire up the uber/lyft app?......are there ride hawkers to avoid outside?........or what??.......thanks for your help!

  4. was there only once about two or three years ago for only about two days with a US travel friend......the island itself is not utterly attractive, a mix of scrubby vegetation and uninspiring topography......west-facing beaches have great sunsets and can be very nice, especially the less-developed ones, but I found a light-moderate amount of trash on the popular tourist beach we were on (Bangtao).......we went to Bangla Rd in Patong just to see it one evening and I gotta admit it was pretty damn fun.....we did not have time to go see the popular islands off Phuket.....

taxis are relatively expensive compared to other Thai locations, but it's a captive audience and not bad compared to other large world cities......the physical geography of the entire island lends itself to pricey transport as the attractions and hotels are all several miles from each other and/or the airport......I suppose many visitors primarily stay all day at their "resort" and only occasionally set out on a planned tour at a fixed price.....to avoid the taxi rackets, I guess one can try to deal with a reputable local tour agency for daytrips, the hotel concierge, or travel with a tour group......

I don't need to go back......

i has a session with the hot Egyptian guy ahead who speaks perfect English

I think you may be talking about Akmed (sp) and I'm glad he is still there.  Very nice guy, honest, and helpful for English speakers.

  6. would you (or others here in the forum) consider the Jardim Paulista neighborhood to be the most convenient for sauna access and general touristy walking around??...or are there other neighborhood suggestions....thanks
