Olddaddy reacted to reader in Malta: The tiny European island of tolerance
    From the BBC

nspired by a trailblazing transgender model, Malta has become one of the most accepting countries in the world in the past 20 years.
It was a sweltering afternoon at Balluta Bay sometime in the late 1990s. Eager young journalist Ramona Depares was celebrating her first job at a local magazine at the City of London, one of Malta's oldest seafront bars, when a woman walked in. "Everyone stopped talking, openly staring," Depares said. "I remember she was wearing her iconic, massive black hat and a slinky black pantsuit – this was midweek, mid-afternoon, when everyone else was in flip flops. But it wasn't only about her clothes, it was her aura. She behaved like royalty. It was difficult not to be entranced."
This mysterious figure was international Maltese model and trans pioneer Katya Saunders, known to friends as Kaka. As Depares would soon learn, Saunders' life was as compelling as her glamorous career: in the 1970s, she moved to London and transitioned; while in the 1980s she was pictured in Vogue on the arm of Karl Lagerfeld, did photoshoots in New York and modelled for fashion designers Charles & Ron, who still own a store in the Maltese capital Valletta. Rumour had it she'd even hung out with David Bowie and Mick Jagger.
After an introduction, Depares and Saunders started chatting. "I asked whether she would give me an interview," said Depares. "And for years she played cat and mouse with me for this blessed interview, despite bumping into her at parties or fashion shows. She said she'd prefer to have her memoirs published instead."
Eventually Saunders disappeared from public life, having "fallen upon hard times", as Depares put it. Fast-forward to 2019 and the journalist was in the Times of Malta's office when news of her death broke. "I wrote her tribute thinking, well, at least she'd be happy to know that her death made waves across the Maltese media." Depares pictured her "giggling away, enjoying the commotion that she was once again causing".
Since then, Saunders' trailblazing life as one of Malta's first openly transgender public personas has been reappraised on an island that's seen remarkable changes in the last two decades. One of only five nations in the world to have made LGBTQ+ rights equal at a constitutional level, it has held first place for eight years on the ILGA-Europe Rainbow Index, which ranks countries on LGBTQ+ equality. After first visiting Valletta's hilly streets half a decade ago, I've been intrigued by this tiny island nation's unlikely rise as one of the world's most tolerant places.
To examine how this happened, let's start by rewinding to the years after Saunders' birth in 1957. In 1964, Malta achieved independence after more than 150 years of British rule. The Brits had criminalised male same-sex relations, but as a republic, Malta legalised same-sex activity in 1973, with an age of consent of 16, equal to heterosexual sex. In 2001, the creation of the lobbying group Malta Gay Rights Movement (MGRM) helped usher in Malta's inaugural Pride March in 2004, as well as a national gay helpline. The pace quickened in the next decade: Malta was the first country in the EU to ban conversion therapy in 2016, when same-sex marriage was also passed, and the first European state to add gender identity to its constitution as a protected category.
What was Malta's first Pride March like 20 years ago? "Not a big affair," said MGRM's Joe Grima. "It attracted between 50 and 100 people, whereas by [2023's] EuroPride, 38,000 attended the march and concert headlined by Christina Aguilera. We could celebrate how far we came. The laws that safeguard equal rights are now a normal aspect of everyday life in Malta."
These laws were not in place for young Saunders or for other LGBTQ+ people of her era, however. As a result, the MGRM and Malta Council decided to celebrate her legacy by commissioning Depares to write the book Katya: Easy on the Tonic (a nod to Saunders' favourite catchphrase), and curating exhibitions featuring her clothes, portraits and accessories at galleries in Valletta, including one at Valletta's historic cultural hub Spazju Kreattiv (view the online archive here).

I personally find it pretty arrogant to claim that a certain amount for offering sex work is "outragegous", instead of being happy that there are people willing to do it at all.

    Hey guys,
Not a lot of things makes me happy these days. As the situation in my home country of Israel developes, I become more pessimistic about the future. Since October I'm drafted to the army and I expect that to end in several weeks.
One thing that does make me happy, is planning. Due to the fragility of the situation, this trip has a high cancelation risk, so I'm booking it with full cancelation terms. After getting my husband approval, I'm booked for Songkran weekend in Bangkok! I'm expecting massive GCircuit parties and also will attend the Martin Garix set on the Siam Songkran event.
First question, advice on lodging? Any particular advice regarding Songkran? I'm debating between Le Meridien, W, or staying near the GCircuit parties that will happen at the EmSphere on Sukhumvit.
Also, any specific Songkran advice will be highly appreciated.
    Peace and Love ❤️

Hinton Battle and I go way back. I was nearly a baby when I first met him during his Wiz years. We worked together on several projects through the years, and he was always generous with his introductions. I probably know more about him than I should. He was an intimate guest in my home on several occasions. I'm going to save most of what I know for my memoir. Details you won't find coming from Debbie Allen.
Hinton was multi-talented, but he led a complicated life. He was guarded and secretive, which made it difficult to get and stay close.
I hope and pray he has found peace.

When he said, that's all... I would've said yes, talk to your mamasan.

A massage guy from paradise tried that in Pattaya, I said I'll walk back and we can talk to your boss together if you want to clear this up.

One of my biggest peeves in Thailand, wanting more than agreed to when many of the times doing less than agreed to. Is why I stayed away from the gogo's this trip, the ones I did go to was just a waste of money for overpriced drinks and stupid boy drink/off policies.

Nice report btw, I had every intention of heading  to other massage places further out, but deep down knew I wouldn't , lol

Perhaps a friendly mod will move it.
Anyway, to answer your question, the only Greek touristy island with significant amounts of money boys would be Mykonos, in season (there would also always be a few in Rhodes or Crete as they have a large permanent population anyway).
Believe it or not I actually did an analysis of Mykonos boys who advertise on Hunqz a few years ago, which I published on this website, I think. ( I know, I know, I’m very weird).
I found that escorts ( the ones that advertised on Hunqz anyway) are very seasonal on Mykonos, ie there were only three or four on the island in April, but they were up to 40 or 50 by August.
So I suggest if you want a Greek island with plenty of rent boys, go to Mykonos between June and September.

My sleep schedule is still fucked, more than usual....I do love naps and sleeping though.

Both nights went to Hot Male....both nights took Alex's cousin back to my hotel. He's supposedly straight and doesn't know massage, according to Alex. But he did the absolute best massage I've EVER had in Thailand, and that's a pretty high bar to reach.

2 hours, so relaxing with a HE.

The 5th night, my last night in BKK, I contemplated either a massage shop, or with this guy again from Hot Male or a Madagascar guy from Grindr I've been with before with a big cock.

I considered all the factors and costs....big dicks I can find in many places, that good a massage, with a super nice guy is more the rarity, especially when I'm gone from Thailand....is why I went with him again and he also said he doesn't get a lot of off's, because he's straight. He goes with customers drinking at times and does his work for his salary.

He sent me nice thank you messages after he left both times, that felt very sincere. The last night when I asked him, you want to go with me again, he smiled and what do you think, lol

I'm off to Jakarta today, not sure if they'll be much interesting to write from there.....I'm doing 6 stops on this trip, each 5 days. I think that's a good time for me, I'm already looking for the next place, change of scenery. Bali and Manila I'll post if anything "interesting" happens

I've done many month or 2 month trips in Thailand.....don't think I can do those anymore, I'm too jaded by the gogo bars, and "tip me- Tip me" from people I'm not even interacting with, lol

    Lol... great post, I agree
A bit disturbing to see you have 6 down arrows though .
a lot of those (sick) "old" men back then that used to frequent that Sunee  area wernt what I would classify as "gay"
they just pretended to be part of the gay community, of course nowadays most wouldn't accept them as such
I was a little shocked to see your last paragraph mentioning another forum owner and his alleged comments,I always thought he ( if it's the one you allege) came across  to me as a man with integrity certainly not a person I liked but I always thought of him a person with high morals , I'm disappointed I was wrong , very sad to think ,just proves they hide their true nature , but yes that shocked me ,but it is what it is
Also if I recall one former bar owner in that Sunee area f Liverpool UK , is still serving his 15 year jail sentence back  in the UK , probably would be in protection if he is still in there ,but I'm going back around 10 years so he may be out .
