  1. I visited the Villa again last week

I arrived about 6 pm on a Wednesday. It is my second time in in the place but I never hired there before as I wasn’t well on the last occasion (review of visit above).

Just to note if you have never been - there is no sign for the place, just a little plaque saying "Basement flat No.32" at the top of the stairs.

When I went in, I met the receptionist/host and he brought me to the one-way window.

The available guys were three South American guys. They were all Twinkish in build, and of average to good looks. I think they had been better looking bunch the previous time, when unfortunately I wasn’t up to doing anything

I clarified that the fee would be £160, which would include everything. I picked a guy called Pedro, who is from Brazil and quite new to the establishment.

I was told I’d have to wait for a room, and I was ushered to a little waiting-room just inside the door, with a couch and a TV.

Felt a bit weird to be stuck in this pokey room watching Sky News, but I was only was only there for maybe five or 10 minutes before the host came and brought me to the bedroom.

The room was a small windowless room with just basically bed and side table. If I had been hoping for an en-suite to possibly have a shower, I would have been disappointed

I decided I wanted a sort of proper massage first, but the bed was so soft it was hard for the poor masseuer - when he put pressure on my back I just sank into the mattress. I didn’t leave it long before I moved onto other activities. Pedro was friendly and eager to please.

When the session ended, I gave Pedro £160 in cash before I left the room.

The overall vibe was friendly and relaxing and I was offered water when I arrived and before I left.

Before I left, I asked the host if there were any guys apart from the three I saw who who would be available the next day, and he showed me some photos and videos of a guy who wasn’t in that day, but would be in the next day. So it may be possible to plan ahead to visit when a guy you like will be there.

  2. It can be hard to read the signals, lol

When I was checking in to a hotel in Dubai recently, the porter, after bringing me to the room and showing me the AC etc, then suggested that we exchange Whatsapp details.

On seeing me look at him in confusion, he said that it was so I could send him a Whatsapp message down in the lobby if I needed him to bring me something...

Despite being to Pattaya five times, it was only after giving him a polite refusal and ushering him out, that I realised that he was probably about try and hook me up with either a lady of the night, or himself!

As it was a very straight hotel, and he was in Indian guy who gave off very straight vibes, i suspect it was the former.

I was sorry after I hadn't said yes, just to see what I would get offered...

  3. Really enjoying this trip report. Some great photos from Cambodia, and those pictures of Sukhothai are making me want to visit myself.

You never told me, when we met in Bangkok, that you were going to Phuket, I was of course just back from my Patong Beach stay. Probably for the best, saved you from having to listen to my unneeded advice, lol

I got a sense of déjà vu when I saw your photos. The ones from Zag could have been mine, and the day trip I took was exactly the same itinerary, except on my tour, we didn’t visit the Tiger sanctuary.

  4. Two I like to watch are:

The Bald and Bankrupt Channel - run by a British guy who likes to travel to unusual places. Before the current Ukraine situation, he was particularly famous for travelling in the former Soviet Union and eastern bloc countries.

The video I link to below is a fascinating recent one, where he joined immigrants making their way north from Colombia to the USA trough the notorious Darien Gap, and area of complete lawless jungle between the the North and South American continents.

Of more Thai interest is the Bangkok Pat channel. Pat is a Thai/British guy who delved in considerable detail into certain historic old Bangkok neighbourhoods.

The video I link to is where he goes around the Soi Ngam Duphli & Soi Sri Bamphen (near Lumpinee BTS station) and talks about the sleazy history of the area in the 1980's and 1990's with another Thai Youtuber, Karl. They discuss, among other things, the  old rent boy scene in the Malaysia Hotel.

  5. If you are thinking of visiting Mykonos, a rather cute introduction to it is this video

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-ryB45n8Zk&list=PLbnU9iq6kGBGPVbe5pS5MThq5clRgqaup&index=1&ab_channel=Channel4

It is part of a series called "My First Greek Summer" which was a Channel 4 documentary series (may have been just online ) that followed three rather dumb young British gay lads on the first gay summer abroad.

You can follow their adventures that summer in later episodes too. It kinda funny if you have a lot of patience for the young and the dumb if they are cute...

  6. Perhaps a friendly mod will move it.

Anyway, to answer your question, the only Greek touristy island with significant amounts of money boys would be Mykonos, in season (there would also always be a few in Rhodes or Crete as they have a large permanent population anyway).

Believe it or not I actually did an analysis of Mykonos boys who advertise on Hunqz a few years ago, which I published on this website, I think. ( I know, I know, I’m very weird).

I found that escorts ( the ones that advertised on Hunqz anyway) are very seasonal on Mykonos, ie there were only three or four on the island in April, but they were up to 40 or 50 by August.

So I suggest if you want a Greek island with plenty of rent boys, go to Mykonos between June and September.

No, I didn't, but when I had looked before the nearest were in Bucharest.

Not being a smartass, but are you sure you were searching correctly?

Because as of today there are more than 50 listed on Hunqz for within 3 kms of Sofia, and that is similar to what I found when I looked a few months ago.

OK, so I had a very nice time in Sofia, but there is really very little action going on. Grindr had no one advertising services or approaching with offer of services. Rentmen had only expired accounts. There is however quite a few bars that were well frequented, and it was possible to pick guys up there.

A nice city, but not that gay friendly if I'm honest.

Did you try GayRomeo (the Hunqz site} ?

I have read on this forum that Siam Heritage does not allow joiners.

I am thinking of amending my map to show hotel symbols in different colours depending on whether they are joiner-friendly. I think that will be useful.

    I hope not!

I have booked it for January on the basis that it is guest-friendly

I know that in the past, it charged a joiners fee, but I believe it has changed,

Certainly according to this site (supposedly updated in 2023)  it no longer does:

I guess i will have to take my chances, and head for the Surawongse short time place if they look for money for my guest

  10. I remember Zipper magazine, and a Blue boy. My earliest memories when I’ve been out of the early 1990s. I don’t have hugely specific memories of porn mags, I remember flicking through a few nervously in porn shops in Dublin.

There is some non-porny magazines that stick in my mind more. I remember Gay Times and Attitude. At first when I saw Attitude in a magazine stand in the shop I frequented, I didn’t realise it was a gay mag at first, until I remember there was a cover with Jean Paul Gaultier. Then I flicked through it, and realised that it was purely gay. When  I started buying magazines, the two you might find at a standard newsagents were Gay Times (which was a bit more newsy and boring), and Attitude, with Attitude being a bit more fun.

Your magazines above certainly bring forth nostalgic thoughts. The travel articles in the first Him magazine above seem intriguing, I would definitely be interested to read what Peter Tatchell thought of gay Paris in the 80s, and the review of Agadir would probably also be an fascinating read also.

I agree completely and cannot understand why some complain about over pricing. When I first came to Bangkok and started regularly taking boys off in 1981, the expected short-time tips were 500 baht - at least that's what I paid. In those days of the baht being fixed against the US$, that was the equivalent of $20.

I find charts of annual inflation rather difficult to read. but I found one which calculates what 500 baht would be worth now after inflation. The rise in prices over that period was 251.02%. By my calculation (and I am no mathematician!) that means the equivalent now would be around 1,750 baht. That today is close to US$50.

Perhaps somewhat surprisingly, during the same period the inflation calculator shows a rise of 222% in the US$ buying power.

What the baht figure does not include, I believe, is the general rise in economic activity in the country and the substantial increase in the number of better paid jobs. As has been suggested in other threads, I assume this must have had some effect resulting in the reduced availability of Thai boys for the gogo bars in particular and consequently off prices and tips.

My view therefore is that all factors considered and over the much longer term, the figures illustrate that prices charged by bars for offs and the requested tips by the boys have actually gone down.

That tip may have increased slightly less than inflation, but I think drink prices and off fees have.

For example, when i went to Tawan bar in 2013, the price of one drink was 300 baht. Now it appears you purchase a ticket at the door costing 500 baht, which entitles you to one drink

In inflationary terms, 300 baht in 2013 is about equivalent to 360-380 baht nowadays, but the cost of one drink to get in the door is 500 baht now.

    Where is it located?

I believe it is located on the site of the old Washington Square beer bar area, which also had a theatre called Calypso(?) Cabaret.

That may make it a bit more easy to place for some of more venerable members.
