Turning 55 today

Recommended Posts

I got a bit spoiled by Florida beaches.

add odd hurricane here and there and spoilage is completed but that the joy of living in places, it's always something, typhoons. snow blizzards, droughts, earthquakes, volcanoes and bad government. Wherever we are it's always something we like and something we not.

For me Bangkok  would be close to ideal but is far from -I'd not like living in place where is hot almost year round but as vacation go , perfect !

i have a weakness for older blonds but this young man caught my attention.

He has a sexy name, Timothee Chalamat.

Of course he is famously seen in movies like Call me by your name and Lady Bird.

I am more smitten by his honesty and fluency and train of thoughts.

He seems like a good friend to have.

Well the euphoria of Valentines Day and the Chinese New Year 2018 came and gone here in Singapore and everyone is back to NORMAL life tomorrow.  I was in the Chinatown vicinity (quite laughable when the Chinese population is about 65% here) over the past weekend and wish to share some photos with you guys..

Flavourful Chinese sausages..yes long and tasty and some Dog-lanterns..

Last but not least, the self-indulgence...just to make sure that you know how particularly vain I am.. photo taken on the first day of Chinese New Year 2018,,,green is supposed to be my lucky colour this year.. ha ha ha。。 not exactly competition with the younger South East Asian boys but should be good enough for a soon-to-be 57 year old Singaporean?

恭喜发财

Gong Xi Fa Cai 。。

Nice sausages (pity we can’t see the sausage in the last photograph)

Ha ha ha..and I am such an obedient guy that sticks to the "limits" of this forum.

As a matter of fact, I am showing too much meat...much more than the boys in Soi Twilight.

You would catch my eye as you walked by. You make 55 look good!

Thanks for the compliments and don't forget to buy me a drink next time.

I certainly hope that is the case for many men whom I fancied while in Thailand.

White meat for me ...and honey, I am turning 57 in 2 months' time ..

I saw these waffles in Taipei's Shi Lin Market...

They are as good as the REAL deal..

Totally digestible and yes, melts in your mouth..

**Instead of white fluid, they are filled with red bean paste.

**

I was writing this post initially for the Planning early thread but decided it fits here better.

**

One of the PERKS of taking very early morning flight to Thailand from Singapore is Changi Airport.

Almost all the budget airlines have their first flight at around 0600 hours and instead of lurking my luggage to the airport in the wee hours of the morning, I would rather take the last train/bus to the airport the previous night.   With recent development, it is as easy as buying a subway ticket when checking in...everything is fully automated.

By the time I get to the 24 hours-airport, I have less than 5 hours to kill....Interesting things do happen..

01.  The airport is wi-fi ready.

        a.    log into the apps - who knows you may be lucky that a dude is nearby waiting for you

02.  There are ample things to explore at the airport -

        a.   flora and fauna  -the orchid garden is worth a visit

        b.   local food - yes the food court next to McDonalds has an array of local food at very reasonable prices.

Furthermore, they accept Visa/Master for SGD 8 purchase.

03.    Relax

         a.   OSIM massage chairs and foot massage machines are almost everywhere

          b.  Toilets are always super clean..

So the hours passed by quickly and before I realise it, it is time to report at the departure gate.

*** ALERT***

Anyone needs to do a VISA run out of Thailand.

Well may I suggest Kuala Lumpur for you.

I have secured Premier Rooms at Genting Highlands, a Casino-Integrated Sort from 14 Apr to 18 Apr.

The rooms are complimentary (thanks to a contact).

Of course, there are more to see in this area.

If anyone is interested, we can discuss the details such as transport and food.

Entertainment is ..... what's available on Grindr and such related apps.

Sightseeing is ...

01.

A day trip to Kuala Lumpur to see the Putra Mosque and the main twin towers during the day as the last bus is 7 pm from KL to the highlands.

02.

At the highlands, there is a beautiful Chinese temple, Chin Swee Temple.  A solace ...

This would be a horrible start of a trip for me, and only if such a flight is significantly cheaper than a flight at a godly hour I would take it. Only once did I have to go through such an ordeal:

When I had an early morning flight from Paris to Bangkok, I realized that I would not be able to reach the airport at such an early hour by public transport (and wouldn't want to spend money on a taxi in Paris). So I checked if the airport is open over night, and took the last bus and tried to sleep on the airport.

(Question to native speaker: do you say "godly hour" as opposite of "ungodly hour"?)

I'm with Christian on this.

Despite also managing my expenditure in a prudent fashion, I will try very hard to avoid extreme flight times.   If there is a 6:00 am flight and a 13:00 flight, I will pay any reasonable extra sum to take the later flight.

The idea of staying up all night in an airport is horrific.

Example:

On my last holiday, there was a flight back from Cebu to BKK at 1:30 am, which I immediately rejected.   The other flights were much more expensive.

So I decided to make an indirect flight and spend a couple of days in KL  Then I discovered one day had a 7:00 am departure for KL & the alternate day had an after lunch departure.   So to get the later departure, my stay in KL got cut to 1 night.  Fortunately, I also discovered it's possible to fly from KL to Utapao, which is much closer to the end destination.....

Note:   Where I do a proper long haul flight, the rules change, as I can expect to get some sleep if spending 11~12 hours on a plane.   Flying overnight is a preferred way then.

"Godly hour" is not a recognized opposite of "ungodly hour".

** I have to admit I am a CHEAP CHARLIE when it comes to transportation.

***

I agree that it is NOT everyone's idea of flying.

I only do it because it is Changi Aiport.

Short haul - 2 to 3 hours

There is one more consideration, if you are ever in Singapore.

The fare on the taxi meter is multiplied 1.5 times between 0000 and 9699.

It becomes pointless to save money on cheaper flights but spend it on midnight cab fare.

Sometimes the taxi fare works out to more than 50% of that ticket to Bangkok on a budget airline.

I would rather spend my money wisely.

Time of arrival

Bangkok is infamous for the traffic jam and arriving in the afternoon means chaos.

The short bus journey from DMK to Mo Chit can take more than an hour during those times whereas in the mid-morning, it takes about 20 to 25 minutes when the traffic is lighter.

Of course coming into SVM is a much breezier affair.

to Utapao,

Is there public transport from Utapo to Pattaya Central? Like regular airport buses or minivans?

There are minivans. I suppose you can arrange them on arrival. With AirAsia you can book Pattaya Central as a departure/arrival point. Your ticket includes the transfer.

Departure point is Central Festival shopping Mall (minivans leave from the service road on the right side of the mall (when looking towards the sea).

This is just for your amusement..nothing serious..

Sometimes I wonder why I ain't getting the attention from homosexual Caucasian men in Thailand?

I'm at that stage of my life that I'm experienced and financially independent enough to buy my own lunch.  I am humorous and sexy (at least to some).  Why am I a wallflower next to the locals?   I am well read and definitely, low maintenance.... I can cook and I can do the dishes....

Argh.. I know..age matters.

I am not a blushing flower anymore.  The lines on my face and neck rivals that of the Bangkok Rail Map...it is expanding to cover more areas.... Perhaps, my 57 birthday gift is NOT nip and tuck but a sensible light-weight Chanel scarf to wrap around my neck.

Ha ha, this old potato queen is currently in Thailand for the Easter weekend.

Starting from watching a Macho Muscle Contest at the gates in Chiangmai, this trip is going to be extremely stimulating.

Note..I had a Free haircut while waiting for the contest to start..Super memorable incident, right?

Well last night, I managed to score at Ram Bar, Chiangmai. I arrived at 2135 hrs and half the seats were taken.

Within minutes, a fresh young New Yorker who had just completed his high school last June and doing his gap year touring South East Asia came to sit with me.

We enjoyed the show and each other's company. Not exactly a cradle snatcher myself, he just left my room after a night of exhilarating activities. Talking about fresh meat enthusiasm. Now I know why older men like young men...

Another humorless post.

This is my final night in PAttaya before I move over to Bangkok for 4 nights. It was pouring between 2015 and 2100. I was doing my best time in 100 metres dash to Central Festival.

Lots of Chinese package tour tourists were there, waiting for the bus to ferry them to the DRag shows.

I'm now standing at the KFC balcony, enjoying the evening breeze while waiting for the rain to stop....

Where is my knight in shining armour to rescue this damsel in distress?
