I was there two midweek nights. Checked out the saunas at 6-9.

I m a 65 y/o caucasian; not unattractive.

Magnum sauna:
After entering I was told "payment when leaving". Fortunately so.
There were about 10 men around, looking older than me. In less than a minute I made an immediate U turn, and left. I wasn't charged the €17 entrance fee.

Sauna 69:
€13 fee. Impressive place; big; spacious; very comfortable loung; immaculately clean. Jaccuzi not hot.
3 oldies and 3 young guys walking around stone-faced, sometimes watching the porn screens. No interactions.
Left after an hour. The nice receptionist was honest: "it's better on Saturdays".

CoXx men's bar:
Google says it opens at 9; went there at 10; was told by the 'receptionist' that things get going only at 11. Didn't wait.

Apps:
Was propositioned by 3 hot youngsters in Grindr and Romeo. One asked for "support"; insisted I set the sum. I was surprised he was ok with my trial baloon: 10,000 Florint = €26.

Didn't see any escorts on hunqz. There were 15 on rentmen. The very few posting rates: incall - 120; outcall - 145; overnight  800-1000.

hmm...when I was in Budapest in Oct there were plenty of hot guys advertising in Hunqz.

Yeah, some guys desperate for money will settle for 10-15,000 HUF but most guys will charge higher than that. You can ask if they have lower rate for 30min; many will offer that upon request. Gym fit/musle hot guys (many will be used to traveling to Zurich, Vienna etc for work so they know their market value) will charge 100-120 Euro an hour.

Above is based on my Oct 2021 observations from staying a few days in Budapest.

Everything is online - mostly apps, a bit Hunqz, etc.

There are no gay clubs, and the couple of gay bars are very sad - there could be some rentboys there, but they would be druggies. I met some exceptional guys there, one Romanian for instance, but they are all online. A couple of saunas and one cruising bar are all non-escort scene.

One of my favourite bars in Europe, Action Bar, has long closed - that was the Budapest highlight that I miss. It had live sex shows, interactive "oral academy" on Friday nights with bar patrons sucking off performers on the bar floor, and plenty of rentable guys. That's long gone, and nothing has emerged instead. Men's days at Rudas baths used to be a riot in the 2000s, but they are very very very tame now. 

A fascinating city which I try to visit every year or two - but all escort scene is online.

Yes - Budapest's hey day was when the Action Bar was in its FULL glory.  I lived in Budapest for many years and I went to the Action Bar almost every weekend.  In addition to what you write above, on Thursday nights they had "Meet your Escort" night where you could meet many of the escorts that  you would see in Hunqz or others who did not advertise.  It was fun to meet them outside of the bedroom.

 

Ironically, the former owner of the Action Bar is here as a retiree in Pattaya.

The Action Bar also had a 2-way mirror looking over the urinal trough so you knew who was hung and who wasn't.

yes I agree 100% - there was one Oral Academy guy that I wanted to off and take home at all costs.
