This statement is SO true.  I was formerly one of those "too proud" to consider the idea of paying for an off.  It was thanks to this forum in my early years here that I realized that I could maximize my sexual pleasure by paying for the experience - as I discovered that by being the consumer / buyer of said services - that I could construct the menu and program of what I wanted to do with my offs.  This is SO much more harder when you are chasing free guys - to get your menus and program desires to match up.  Once I discovered the joy of having what I want - almost always - I never turned back to being "too proud".  And when I hear of proud non-paying guys bitch and complain that they are not getting what they want - I suggest that they get over the embarrassment of paying for it to almost immediately find what they are looking for, where they waste much less time and effort of the endless hunting for unsatisfactory sex.

Just like in many couples’ arguments, most of the time, it’s not what you say, but how you say it… Although, there are some phrases that have alternate meanings, i.e. “please advise” in a business email could mean “WTF” or, in the South (US), “bless your heart” could be a socially acceptable version of “f**k you”

I'm thin but tall (1m85 / 6'1), fly +- 180h a year and always book economy.  I simply prefer to spend my money on other things than on luxury during the flight, although I certainly understand why people book business once you have experienced it.
I have my routine and try (and mostly manage) to sleep on every flight, even if it's just a short one hour haul. I bought custom made earplugs, comfortable and they block all the noise when you try to sleep.  I love my noise canceling headphones. I've got the sony mx1000m4 and couldn't miss them on a flight. Lately I often fell asleep with those headphones on and my earplugs still in my bag. I always pick a seat at the back of the plane (a bigger chance on an empty seat next to you)  and select an aisle seat in the middle part (only one person can ask you to stand up when he/she needs to go the bathroom).   On long haul flights with a 3-4-3 layout, it often narrows to a 3-3-3 layout. My favorite seat (and I do pay extra for seat selection if necessary) is at the left side of the second row of 3 seats in the middle. (see screenshot, the green spot). You can stretch your legs, nobody bumps into you and even that bathroom was closed on my latest flights (people tend to go anyway to the bathoom that they can see). As other posters mentioned, always check seatguru.  I never watch movies, they keep me awake, but I do use an e-reader (makes me sleepy). I used to take a sleeping pill before flying, but that made me dizzy. Now I just drink one whisky at the start of the flight.   I use a pillow similar to this one: https://www.amazon.com/Inflatable-STTARLUK-Airplane-Comfortably-Supports/dp/B093HD2RK7  It's bulky, but comfy and I can even read an e-book in sleeping position. An added advantage is that it seems to refrain people to ask me to stand up if they want to go to the bathroom. I do buy a last minute business class upgrade if the price is right. On one of my latest air france flights, I had a business class upgrade on both legs of a 11h flight for less than 400€ in total. If the flight is delayed, I always ask for a free lounge voucher (and often get one). If you don't ask, you get nothing..

monsoon reacted to Ruthrieston in Why not retire to Thailand?
I grew up in a small city in Scotland, and my brother, who was five years older than me, was also gay, but rather than helping or supporting me through the bad times he made it worse for me. He got married and had two children, while still being even more camp than me. When I came out to my parents in my mid twenties as I was leaving Scotland for the joys of London, my mother's only response was to ask "What about your brother?", to which my only response was "ask him dear". I last saw my brother at our mother's funeral more than twenty years ago. I still hate him for all he did to me. In my teenage years I tried to kill myself three times, once with a paracetamol overdose that nearly worked. I am now in my mid sixties and have lived in Pattaya for eleven years and having a happy retirement after being kicked out of my job for being gay at the age of 52. Sorry for being so boring, I will shut up now.

Not in this case....at least, the twin had a wife and a daughter. But who knows? My generation is full of closet-dwellers. After all, I was forty-five before I had  gay sex.
One thing I've mentioned before is that I was struck , on my first visit to Pattaya where I met other men for whom gay sex had come late to their lives. Very late in the case of one guy, who was in his late seventies when his wife died. He came straight to Pattaya where I'd see him frequently walking through Boyztown, hand -in hand with a young Thai.
    I found it touching.

I've heard gay men my age express concern about being seen with a younger man in a restaurant in Bangkok. If there's any place on earth where this more of a non-issue, I'm not aware of it.
I frequently offer to take a guy out to eat and I can't recall the last one who declined the offer.
I've come to look at this way: if I'm not at peace with my sexuality now, how many more years will I have to wait before I am.

LOL I have and they were great fun. But, a true drag queen brings a whole different level of fun to any dinner, party, or event. I know they are not for everyone! But, I adore and respect them a great deal. I have also done tons of charity events in the USA and the hardest workers were always those drag queens. I realize Thailand is different but my love is my love and I share it with drag queens around the world.

You clearly are unable to read, unfortunately. Look at Florida. That is as hot as it gets in Thailand for most of the year. 15,185 deaths and total of 729,000 cases - and counting.  If heat kills the virus, why is it spreading like wildfire in a very hot country like india? If the virus loves cold weather, why does New Zealand only have 25 deaths. That country, please remember, was just going in to its winter when the virus appeared. It has still not reached its summer there.
The reason for countries like Taiwan, Vietnam and Thailand, all dependent on huge numbers of Chinese tourists, having so relatively few cases is not related to weather. I wlll omit mention of your half-assed put-down re half-failed states. Instead I will again let facts speak for themselves.
    Vietnam:  95.54 million population - 35 deaths
    Thailand: 69.43 million population - 59  deaths
    Taiwan: 23.78 million population - 7 deaths
    USA: 328.2 million population - 219,686 deaths
The reasons for asian countries having vastly fewer deaths than western countries is perfectly simple. They identified and understood the threat as soon as it appeared. As early as February at least two of the above had put in place mask wearing, use of hand sanitisers, temperature checks and contact tracing. By late March, all three Asian countries locked down. In Thailand we had to use a phone app when entering and exiting every building to make tracing simple. Only take out food was available. In early May, there was a gradual opening up. Now we had to use the phone app not only when entering a shopping mall but also again when one of its eating places, shops and supermarkets.
I realise only too well how frustrating it is for so many stuck in other parts of the world who are unable to make their regular visits to Thailand. Rather than direct criticism at half-failed states, i suggest you write to your own government representatives to find out why they sat on their fat behinds and did nothing until it was too late.

Trump And Covid - Why Glee Is An Appropriate Response
You Gotta Know When To Fold Him
Ugg. All these people on Facebook saying even though we disagree with Trump we should feel bad for him and hope he recovers.
    No fucking way.
This is a guy who did everything he could to pretend the virus didn’t exist just to increase his re-election chances.
Here’s a partial list of things he said or did.
Encouraged people not to wear masks.
Held massive rallies in the middle of the epidemic where nobody wore masks.
Said it would be over in “two weeks.”
Admitted to Woodward he knew there was a huge problem but downplayed it.
Could have saved hundreds of thousands of people from catching it just by being honest about it.
Promised it would be over by Easter.
Refused to wear a mask himself
Contradicted the CDC and his own staff members about the virus.
Suggested people try some weird drug his family held stock in - that drug ended up killing a lot of people
Suggested people try bleach to get rid of Covid.
The dude is the man with the most responsibility for the virus spreading as much as it did.
It would have been sad if he never caught it.

Reading the various forums, I note there are are many posters giving advice to Thailand on how to deal with the virus. Looking at their own country's track record on managing (or lack of) the virus they lack any credibility. Shortly, flu season will arrive in the northern climates and with it predictions of another covid wave. In America, a forecaster the White House uses is predicting 410,000 deaths by Jan 1 with a worst case scenario of over 600k.  Think of that, hundreds of thousands of lives needlessly lost because of government mismanagement and selfish people not wearing masks and following well established guidelines. Thailand got it right; and one wonders who is the third world country, Thailand or my home country?  Trust science, be patient, vaccines will be here shortly and we'll all be traveling again.

I definitely understand your point regarding numbers. People in Thailand can't all afford cars. Most deaths are motorcycle related. I personally know many young people who have died on those 2 wheel machines. They will not give them up as they can't afford it. The people want them. How many of the posters on this site have bought a motorcycle for a boy? I bet more than a few. How many would buy a car for them?  I also bet that number would be much less.
The people also seem to want to keep Covid under control. They were protests when a few diplomats got into the country. People here are scared and rightly so. The mass doesn't care as much about the economy and tourism as you think they do. They seem to be more concerned with keeping the country safe. The people want it.
I have said this before. I feel safe here. (for now)  I hope they don't relax Covid controls until a vaccine is found and given to all.
