    (Very early) Morning everyone,
I finally made it to BKK arriving yesterday. It is a trip that has been a long time in the making and that i have look forward to for months now. I posted before Christmas thanking everyone who contributes to this forum - I wish that i have found it sooner. The info that people have posted here has been a fantastic help in preparing me for all the joys of Patpong and the boy bars.
I was going to save up a few nights and post a review then, but fierce jetlag, combined with a bit of a cold that i developed the day before i left (thanks office colleagues that passed that on), I find myself up at 4.30am, so I thought i may as well make a start!
I arrived into BKK at a very civilised time yesterday morning. The plane touched down at 9.45am after an 11 hour flight from London. I had upgraded to Premium Economy and was glad for every penny extra that had cost. Although the cold i am nursing really hit my sleep on the flight and i didn't feel too out of it on arrival. One of the advantages of Premium Economy is that you are sandwiched between First and Business which means that you are one of the first to get off the plane. I got my skates on and sped through to immigration ahead of most of the crowd and was through passport control pretty quickly and without any drama.
When i left the UK it was cold and damp, maxing out at about 10 degrees C - arriving in BKK and it being 30/31 even at that early time was  bit of a shock to the system - i had hoped that it would shock my cold into pissing off and leaving me alone, but no luck.
Thanks to a recommendation i had seen on here somewhere, I had already pre-booked a transfer with SP Limousine and they were ready and waiting for me. I am sure it was significantly more costly than some of the other options that I could have gone for, but at 950bht straight to my hotel seemed like a price well worth paying and I was glad that I had spent the time and money setting up before I arrived; it took a load of stress out of the arrival process and delivered me to the Ascott hotel pain free.
I had also pre-ordered my Thai SIM card and had that delivered to me in the UK before i left, so once in the car, I sorted my phone out and got online.
Surprisingly, it was all really easy - no glitches, muddles, or stress arriving which is just what I needed after a couple of really hard months at work.
I fired up Grindr on the journey over to the hotel and connected with a cute Thai guy. He was angling for lunchtime meet up. He was a top only which was fine. I am very Vers so depending on my overall mood will top or bottom. He had sent over pics and looked smooth, slim and big dicked - perfect! I met him in the lobby of the hotel; it is a good job he spotted me first as i would NEVER have recognised him from the pics he sent over! They must have been taken at least 10 years ago if not more. No problems at all in meeting him the lobby and going up to my room with him. When he arrived he also offered me a massage for an extra tip and I was very happy to go with it. 11 hours is a long time on a flight so was ready for some extra relaxation. He cost an initial 1,000bht for the meeting. I was glad, that even though the pics were really old, his dick measured up. The massage was ok, nothing to get excited about, but it was a welcome addition. He did however fuck really well! He knew how to use his sizable tool and was really just what I was looking for. He was a nice guy and gave him 1,500bht.
I went for a (very) short walk around the block by the hotel and picked up a few bits at the 7-11, and then needed to sleep for a bit.
At about 9.30pm I got a Grab and headed out to see what action i could find. I thought rather than dive straight in and look for a boy to off, I would  have a bit of a wander, get my bearings and just see the lie of the land. I wandered around the Patapong night market for a bit, grabbed myself a pad thai, and kept my eyes open looking for all the venues so frequently discussed on here. It was a bit surreal having read about all these places for a couple of months being in front of me all of a sudden! I was really thankful for all the tips and advice so generously handed out on these pages as it made the night much easier to navigate. \
I ended up in Fresh Boys and only because a cute guy grabbed my attention outside... I arrived about 20mins before the show kicked off so got to see about 40 boys on stage in their small pieces of underwear. I was pleased with my choice of venue. Some good looking twink boys. Some eye contact being made and smiles but as i said before, it was more about taking a look tonight. I was met by a couple of mamasans - a mid 50s guy who sat next to me and an older ladyboy who was lovely. I bought them both a drink and just sat back and enjoyed the display. There was lots of dick grabbing and rubbing on stage as the boys did their parade. There were a couple I wouldn't have minded having a go on but I was still holding out for tonight. Nice variety, all much more on the twink side of things which is good and what I like. One of the boys was alarmingly skinny though and really needs feeding! It was almost painful to watch him.
Thinking back, I don't think I have seen any comment on here about the price of drinks. I was drinking beer but it seemed all the drinks were the same price - 400bht, which seemed rally steep to me? I had got quite a bit of attention and bought mamasans a drink. Other hosts kept coming up and also asking for a drink but at those prices I just said "not tonight". The guy mamasan (the owner?) stayed with me and was nice. Asking what I was looking for, mentioning that they have a room upstairs to use if i didn't want to take boy back to my hotel. I didn't ask how much that would be...
I stayed for the first three or four parts of the show. It opened with a ladyboy lip syncing. She was good. She had a headdress on that Elton John would have been proud of. The second act was a guy jerking off over a magzine. Impressive sized dick although somehow not erotic in the slightest. The third act was actually a pretty well choreographed light bdsm scene. A ladyboy whipping a leathered up boy, slightly more muscular than the boys from the stage earlier. It seemed she was getting quite into and was throwing the boy around. She threw him into one of the pillars at one point with some force. The resulting thump against the pilar was loud and percussive - it got a few double takes from the resident boys; i think it was a bit harder than usual! The last act i stayed for was a couple of boys in speedos getting lathered up, but given they kept their speedos on for what seemed like an age, it really wasn't all that interesting so i chose that moment to head out.
Got a Grab back to the hotel and went up to my room., No sooner had I got back in, a Croatian muscle boy messaged me on Grindr. He really isn't my usual type but faced with the prospect of a 6ft 4" slab of muscle in my room was appealing. He was a bottom sub so after arranging a quick visit to my room, had him on his knees swinging off the end of my dick. He loved being spanked, so found the complimentary slippers in my wardrobe and used one on him before having him put his head on the floor and arse in the air and fucking him. Unexpected, but free fun late on my first night!
Going to head out to a market this morning before the heat really starts to climb. Given that i am awake at a stupid early time, I will probably need to sleep this afternoon before heading back out tonight. I think Lucky Boys might be on the plan for tonight.....

No one is pictured throwing anything. Greta is just shown sitting in front of a plastic bottle, illustrating her breathtaking hypocrisy.
What she didn't tell us is that the boat had a diesel engine downstairs for when there was no wind. She also forgot to mention that in order for her to travel "green", the 2 sailors who took her to New York caught a plane back home and 2 more flew in to take her home. So 4 flights instead of 1.
BTW, I'm a strong believer in climate change  I'm sitting here watching my country burn.

Most of the guys I know send money home.
It really doesn't require much of a mental effort to think about circumstances the guys come from.
Young guys from Cambodia are the children (or in some cases grandchildren) of Khmer Rouge survivors.  Imagine the circumstances in Cambodia when they were born 22-25 years ago and that their families live in even now.  I know many are sending money home to build the first livable homes for their family and are sending their younger brothers and sisters to school.
If you take some time out from the pleasure domes and get to know some of the Myanmar guys, you will find out much the same.  Many guys are from villages where even now there is no electricity.  Spend some time talking and you might find out that waiter serving you spent his time as a stateless Akha family, quite literally foraging for food in the forest.
The same is all true Laos guys and the Vietnamese guys.  I (and others here) know a Laos guy who came from a family with no land, so he actually bought a home for his family.  A lot of Laos guys will remember when their villages first got electricity.
I think all of us who the spend the time really hanging out with these guys, in non-sexual situations even (gasp!), respect them and their commitment to family.  The idea that they're going to say "no, I'm not going to send my mom 2,000 baht this month because I'm going to invest in a mutual fund" is just nonsense.  Setting aside money as savings is a luxury these guys and their families just don't have.
Definitely they're young guys.  They want nice shiny phones and some nice freshly-torn jeans.  And there are some guys (a few) who even have motorbikes, etc.  I certainly don't begrudge them that.  I have a lot of sympathy for what they put up with, so let them have their joys.
People who spend -- objectively speaking -- a lot of money to fly around the world to come to Thailand or Cambodia or wherever to PAY to have sex with young guys who otherwise wouldn't want to have sex with them really cannot claim some sort fiscal prudence superiority.
Not everyone has extra cash to be generous with their money.  But there's no excuse not to have generosity of spirit.

I finally booked my flight to Brazil.  I searched for my tickets using Google, Skyscanner, momondo, hopper, kayak, BT-travel store and Fare Boom which owns BT-Travel Store.  But the best flight I could get was with United Airlines with one stop in Texas.  It also allowed for 2 checked bags.  Many of the other cheaper airlines didn't allow for checked bags and dependability is an issue.  I am also sure UA will communicate in a language I can understand.  The tickets ran $1,175.00 RT from Philadelphia.  Once I get off work (Early) I will run to the airport to catch my 5pm flight.
Today I think I have narrowed down my Airb&b stay in Rio.  The local hustlers all suggested I stay in Ipanema near the beach.  They told me the Copacabana area is nice but I would have more fun in Ipanema.  The place I selected is close to the metro, the beach and not to far from Copacabana area.  Once I get the place booked I will share it's information.  It looks modern and comfortable for $50 USD a night.
This weekend I spend to much time talking to guys on Grinder, Jacked, Planet Romeo and Hornet.  I often had to use my translator to understand them but a few spoke english.  I found that using my android phone to chat is best.  The translator app works in all the chat apps and I am getting the hang of quickly replying in both english along with Portuguese translation.
I got caught up in looking at the guys and found myself deep in the rabbit hole going from one hot and sexy guy to the next.  Many of the hustlers are truly trying to seal the deal once the conversation starts.  Oh, yes we are talking about hustlers.  I have talked to the non-hustlers too but they seem to want to cling to me when I want to paint the town red and use up my box of condoms.
The place seems to have an endless supply of hot and handsome hustlers.

In the beginning I had some difficulty striking up a conversation with the guys and I was told that I look like a local and that I should let them know I was from the USA visiting Brazil.  That advice opened up the door for me to fill my address book with names and numbers.
I asked about the kinky sex scene and I was told that it goes on a lot in Brazil and that they even have a sauna dedicated to it.  Below is the link.

    Good topic.
I am married to a wonderful Thai man I met in 1993. We moved to Canada together, he from Thailand, me from the US, and have made a good life in Vancouver. It has now been almost twenty years, and he wants to move back to Thailand to be with his aging Mom. Having hauled him to  North America for all these years, I can hardly say I won’t live in his country, so it looks like, at age 70, I will move to Thailand next year. I will give up a lot, my community, universal health care, creature comforts and cool weather, but hey—it’s marriage and for better or worse. I am trying to look at it as an opportunity for discovery. I am fortunate in that I have a hobby that allows me to meet new people and develop community. We also have a beautiful home in On Nut.
So I’ll do it, with moments of fear and sadness mixed with the anticipation. Life does not stand still even when we get old.

I had a LTR for about 10 years with a handsome guy from Udon Thani who was working at Jupiter when I first met him. We eventually parted ways, amicably. In essence, I think, the problem was that it was also LDR (Long Distance Relationship). I was living in Thailand when we met, and we saw each other regularly for several months before we decided that we were each other's "fan." I left the country about 18 months later. We had never lived together during that time. He said he couldn't because he wasn't out to his family and didn't want to lie about his living arrangements. What if they called and a farang answered the phone? How could he explain that? After that, we carried on long-distance for another 8 years while I was living and working in other countries in the region. I would go to BKK quite often, up to 6 or 8 times per year, and he would come and stay with me at my hotel for the duration. I briefly owned a condo unit in Pattaya, which he renovated for me. One year I took a long leave and we spent a month there together, the longest time we were ever under the same roof. What I got out of the experience overall is that a long distance LTR is possible, but at some point you actually have to be together in the same place permanently, rather than letting it go on indefinitely. Otherwise, the separation leads to growing apart. That was my experience, anyway.

I was a student in Tokyo when the pubic hair debate started back in the 70's.
Japanese censors went into panic mode when Playboy magazine first started showing it. Housewives were employed at the warehouse in Yokohama to black-out the offending hair with permanent markers.  But it didn't take long for everyone to realize that the ink could easily be removed with some kind of nail polish remover.
So the housewives were armed with needles which  they used to scratch away the hair.
At the time the Japanese laws against pornography prohibited nakedness which showed genitals, but local publishers got around this by having the girls wear see-through panties. Problem solved. So now, not only was pubic hair clearly visible, but the genitals themselves.
There was a lot of inconsistency in the law.  At the gay movie theater I frequented in Ueno, they could show arseholes, balls and squirting cum - great for the bukkake scenes. But the cocks were pixelated.
But there were plenty of real cocks to enjoy and the fuck shows took place in the aisles!

Boys playing on their phones whilst in bed with you - I definitely don’t like this. One night after sex I was ready for sleep - it was about 1 am. I always wake up around the same time as if I was back home - that is between 7 and 7.30, so I needed to get off to sleep. Initially it was 90% dark with only a little light from the bathroom door slightly ajar. Suddenly there was glare from his phone and when I looked over he was playing a game - I think candy crush. When I protested he was offended and said it was too early for him to sleep. The night finished with me telling him to go which he did. You gave to realise they live nocturnal lives and their body clocks reflect this causing problems like the one I describe.

Those  two mamasans are total pains in the arse. I had a short altercation with one of them when he tried to pocket my change. It was quite an effort to get it from him. If they refused to give you your change, then basically they stole the money from you. And they got away with it.
It seems that tout also stole from you when he grabbed that 300 baht. And he got away with it.

I spent two long weekends in Bangkok this month and has a blast, per usual.  I have received so much guidance from you gents over the years, and wanted to share some of my own experiences...

    HOTELS

    Le Siam Hotel https://www.lesiamhotel.com/
I love this little hotel.  Great location - next to Silom Complex and just five minutes from the main action.  Amazing food on the street outside the hotel.  Clean, comfortable rooms.  No issues with guests.  Amazing breakfast.  My new favorite!

    The Tarntawan Hotel Surawong Bangkok
I needed to book a hotel quick and saw a forum headline about this hotel.  Ugh.  I should have read further.  The hotel is very old and dingy -- and now it is being completely renovated inside and out, with constant noise and construction materials.  I pre-booked two nights but left after one and got my money back.

    Glitz Hotel
I needed something quick after moving out of Tarntawan and booked Glitz sight unseen.  It's more like a hostel.  Pros: Close to the action, right next door to Tawan.  Cheap.  No drama bringing guests back.  So close to Prime Massage.  Cons: No elevator.  Sparse rooms.  I would stay here again if others were sold out.  It's fun being in the thick of things.

    MASSAGE

    The Prime Massage
Based on the glowing review of @DivineMadman, I cannot get enough of this place.  I go every single day I am in Bangkok.  To me, it's the perfect combination of quality, luxury, professionalism, and price.  I consistently have excellent massages.

    Sabaidee Spa
This was a low point on my trip.  When I arrived, the manager offered a selection of services.  He said the body-to-body would include elements from all of their massages.  I chose a guy named "Deeno/Deego/Diego?".  Pre-set prices and tips were expensive.  I arrived in the dingy, terrible room and showered in the filthy shower.  The guy got undressed, lightly massaged my for five minutes, before rubbing his D in my A.  Not being dramatic, it felt like assault.  I asked him to stop but he kept going.  I ended the massage early and left.  Expensive, shoddy looking, and bad massage.  Will not return.  i quickly erased the bad memory with a massage at Prime.  ;-)
Magic Touch by The Tree https://www.travelgayasia.com/venue/magic-touch-by-the-tree-bangkok/ Although just a five minute walk from Glitz, this is a delightful off the beaten path, bohemian vibe-type shop.  I had a wonderful, sensual massage with Mr. Diew.  You can add the shop on Line and choose your masseuse from the photos you request.  A fantastic experience.  Would definitely return.   SAUNAS   Babylon I don’t care what people say, I love this place.  Such a throwback to a simpler, hedonistic time.  Guys from all over the world, all ages and sizes, converge for fun.  I had always heard about the legendary Foam Parties, and I have to say, it did not disappoint.  This was definitely the CRAZIEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE IN MY LIFE. (And I have done crazy things.)  The courtyard is filled with foam, and guys converge to dance and play in the suds, under the stars.  It was WILD!  I highly encourage doing this at least once, just to experience it for yourself.  It was the pinnacle moment from my trip.   Chakran This is an upscale sauna that gets rave reviews, however I was VERY intimidated.  The place is 99 percent hot Thai guys, and you have to be completely naked the whole time.  I felt like an intruder — definitely out of my element and invading their territory.  The “orgy” on the rooftop and being able to shower outside with a view of the city was incredible, but I have definitely aged out of this experience.  I would choose Babylon instead.  The highlight was the bar that overlooks the "corral" of massage boys on their phones, waiting to be chosen.  Probably the hottest guys I have seen in the city.   SPA   Dahra Beauty & Spa - Silom https://www.dahra-spa.com/spa-services/facial-treatments/   I had spent two weeks at the beach and my face was busted.  Based on Trip Advisor reviews, I took the ten minute walk from the main action and discovered this very luxurious spa.  Reasonably priced massages and facials that were discounted 20% for low season.  I had a one hour facial that was excellent for $30USD that would have been $200 in the states.  I will definitely return.     Overall, it was another wonderful long weekend in the city.  I love the lazy feeling of Sunday afternoons in Patong -- just grabbing a coffee or lunch and watching people recover from the night before.  I can't wait to go back!

If you plan to do more than sightseeing, Tokyo has at least 200 gay bars in the Shinjuku ni-chome district. But only a few of these will welcome foreigners. So do research beforehand. Check sites like https://www.travelgayasia.com/tokyo-gay-bars/ If you are into saunas, there is an excellent 24 Kaikan Sauna in the ni-chome district. There is an etiquette to sauna going in Japan. Let us know if this is where you choose and I can amplify. Shinjuku station is one of the busiest in the world and has seeming miles of underground shopping. Great for getting to ni-chome if its raining. Walk to Exit C8 a the BYGS Building. The bars are just around the corner, as are at least two of the escort host bars. Just dont expect much English to be spoken at the latter.
There are also escort host bars where you can book the boy of your dreams online to come to your hotel. This can save a lot of time and trouble. This is Japan and so expect them to turn up on the dot. But one hour of fun will mean precisely that. Not a minute more. The great thing is that the websites give precise detail of every guy on their books, their age and stats and icons showing what they will or will not do when they are in your room.  A  page of one site is illustrated below.
Last recommendation is get a good bilingual map. English is commonly used on signs but it is not universally spoken.

Tokyo is not necessarily an expensive city. Your biggest problem is time. From Narita airport you have to allow 30 minutes for Immigration (the queues can be very long). Then go to the basement and get a ticket for the Narita Express train to Tokyo Station or Shinjuku station. This take roughly 55 minutes to the main station and 20 minutes more to Shinjuku. So you have already lost between 2 and 2.5 hours minimum and then the same on the return to the airport. Make sure you buy a return ticket before leaving the airport as your choice of train may be full. Forget the regular limousine buses. They will take up way too much of your time. Its a lot faster and cheaper from Haneda airport if you take the monorail and link to either the Japan Railways overground system or the subway system. ut that depends on your airline and which airport it uses. Note: separate tickets required for the different types of transport. You can avoid this by buying a stored value Suica ticket, but for a ten hours or so that may not be of much use. Ticket machines give change. Once in the city public transport is the best of almost any city anywhere and very cheap. Only problem is that it all shuts down around midnight. On the other hand, avoid taxis as far as possible. Tokyos crawling traffic means the meter clicks over at an alarming rate. Eating is not expensive if you go to one of the vast number of cheap Japanese restaurants. All will have photos or plastic models of the dishes in the window and you can eat well for less than $9.
Many unique sights to see in the city. The Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa is a must. Easy to get there on the Ginza subway line. If you are there at a weekend, the quirky shopping area of Harajuku with young people in all sorts of weird garb is interesting. If it is a clear day go to the skyscraper area in Shinjuku. There is a viewing platform at the top of the Tokyo Government building where you might just get a glimpse of Mt. Fuji. You must keep your eye on your watch and leave enough time to get back to the airport and get back through Immigration.
Dont know much about Shanghai except it has the world's first commercial magnetic levitation train - the Maglev - between Pudong airport and the Pudong district. This takes little more than 9 minutes and travels at 420 km per hour for much of the trip. From there there are subway connections over to the main city.
Taipei airport is linked to the citys main station by a new subway system. Not sure of the sights to see except the wonderful Taipei National  Museum which has the treasures stolen from China by Chiang Kai Shek. Or you can go up to the viewing gallery in Taipei 101, once the worlds tallest building. Or just make your way to Ximen subway station. Here The Red House is packed with lots of small gay bars and restaurants. Great to sit with a beer and people watch. But much busier at week ends than on weekdays. Im told the sauna named Soi13 is one of the most active with lots of young, fit Taiwan guys - https://www.travelgayasia.com/venue/soi-13-in-sauna/
If you seriously consider a stopover anywhere, I really suggest you try to spend at least one night so you are not always checking your watch. Tokyo and Taipei have lots of decent hotels between $70 and $100 although the Tokyo rooms will be very small.

LTRs can also be problematic for the Thai partner. I know of cases where a relationship of many years or so is precipitously severed by a falang who has found a younger and cuter partner, causing not only emotional distress but also leading to financial problems for not just the guy but his family. In one case, the the thirty-year-old Thai, in a relationship with a falang for ten years, went out for  few hours and, returning home,  found his partner with all his belongings gone; no forwarding address, no explanation.
When we take on a guy and make certain promises or raise certain expectations, we owe our partner honesty. Sometimes relationships fail but when they do, the falang probably has more options open to him than the Thai, particularly if he is now  ageing and less attractive. I've no doubt that there are Thais who have acted badly towards loving and generous falangs but sometimes it's the falang who has failed his partner and failed to adapt to a relationship which is no longer as sexually stimulating as when it started.

She was telling me the glasses  (spectacles) I had ordered were ready to be picked up.
The "or lady" bit confused me. Being a gay tourist I have nothing to do with ladies.

I don't think the Thai boys only policy has anything to do with xenophobia.
More likely it has to do with raids by the immigration authority who can cause problems for bars if they employ foreign workers.
