Utterly disgraceful behaviour. Our police should exercise extreme caution when dealing with military juntas, particularly in Thailand which has a long history of racism towards the  Burmese.

The forensic evidence was shot to pieces by a British expert a couple of years back. It is believed that the murder was committed by members of an important and powerful  Thai family that more or less "runs" the island. Burmese are the easy fall-guys on whom to pin their crimes.

I agree. I find it hard to empathise with those who see a someone in need on the streets and then enjoy an internal debate  about the whys, wherefores and long-term possibilities and probabilities rather than  just giving him/her  a few bht  before continuing their journey.

Perhaps it will find its way to Youtube? I'm amazed by the number of Thai gay movies available there - free, of course.

There is a group of massage places in one of the sois leading to the Paradise.....I think the third as you walk from the Ceylon centre. There seem to be plenty of guys available in the afternoons and they can, in many cases, be viewed from the soi. I suggest you take a walk an have a look.
I have had both good and bad (very bad) experiences and can't recommend any in particular.

Phuket certainly has a gay scene in Patong, though I've never seen it busy.I have just returned from a trip there; hotels are reasonably priced in the low -season but I agree that travel around Patong is a nightmare. Some areas are very noisy- huge sound systems continue until 0600. The Paradise area is OK in this respect.

We like Krabi but no sign at all of any gay scene, including massage joints. Have stayed four times over the past few years; usually, we never even see another gay couple. Our beach hotel is, nonetheless, very friendly towards us.

May I put in a word for Chiang Rai? that's "Rai", not Mai. The best scenery I've experienced. Quiet town with a superb night market. Competitively-priced hotels but no gay scene. It's my favourite Thai town.

Lats Sunday was also the day my boyfriend and I went to Sansuk....and you are correct, the Thai/falang ratio was much better. Even I was popular...though my boyfriend was in a different league!
By the way, the restaurant there provided an excellent and well-priced Thai dinner.

I have always thought this is the most idiotic phrase. Its an attempted put down but it always says so much more about the poster writing it than the poster he is criticising.

I have similar impressions of Paradise. Not much of a venue in terms of decor but I have found  suitable (that is, twink) masseurs who have delivered  good service.

My advice is not to assume that a guy you meet in a bar and take off is dishonest. Take reasonable precautions (with valuables for example) , treat your new friend with respect and kindness, pay him the going-rate - or more if you wish- and relax.  Most of the guys are trying to make an an honest living in difficult circumstances; a newcomer to Thailand will soon learn how important parents are to them and how much of the money they make is immediately sent home.

    Dear abidismali,
Offing a guy from a bar, or even via hornet, is not the same as picking-up a stranger on the street; his identity will be known. Don't worry! just take normal precautions with money and valuables.
If you are nervous, stay in  a hotel where the ID card is held. Tarntawan in Bangkok and Ambiance in Pattaya for example.
In twenty years and seventy plus stays, I've never lost a baht. And even if some of the guys I've offed have performed poorly, I've never met a nasty one...except a cheeky little bugger  who wasn't satisfied with 1500 for ST and went off in a huff. He wasn't menacing though, just annoying.
You are safer with a MB in Thailand, particularly from a bar, than anywhere else I can think of.

The possibility, however small, of VD and Hiv infection is why I would advise the use of condoms. It's up to you whether you take the risk. However, we have a responsibility towards the guys we pay who may not be aware of the risks.

Be warned. This guy is now using Hornet, having been rumbled on Planet Romeo.
i arranged a meeting with him yesterday having been seduced by some photos of a cute guy, one of which had only just been added to the portfolio.
When he arrived, I saw that I had been scammed and sent him away. It was only an hour or so later when I recalled this thread and the photos on Gay Romeo. I thought they seemed familiar.
Unfortunately, I cannot help potential victims by providing the name on Hornet; everything-photos, my chat- had been deleted.

My boyfriend and I visit CM regularly; we both love it.
The only gay-scene venues we visit are massage joints. Our favourite is Paradise which is within walking distance of Thapae.
However, even fifteen years ago when I was single, I found the gay scene diasppointing compared to Bangkok and Pattaya. Its venues are spread-out, for one thing, and usually don't get going until 2230 or  later.
I used to stay at Lotus (the one near Adam's Apple, not the huge one near the shopping mall).  Adam's Apple was, by the way, the place to be in the late 90s with sixty or so dancers and a full house of punters regularly. Students from CMU would come , resulting in the audience being as cute as the performers!
We love CM for its laid -back atmosphere, its beautiful and ancient temples its markets (Anusarn is our favourite) and its excursions to mountains, forests and rivers.

I'm surprised at the lack of emphasis on the availability of partners in the afternoons. My meetings (Hornet or Romeo) take place in the afternoons; my evenings are spent with my boyfriend in restaurants and other places of relaxation- not gogo bars. This is partly due to the fact that, now I'm older, i'm more "up for it" in the afternoon but also due to my lack of interest in Pattaya's beach.
When I was  single and visiting Pattaya twenty years ago I relied on the go go bars-  and of course they were more interesting then- but found the afternoons rather boring.  I suspect that without the advent of the dating sites, I would no longer be spending any time in Pattaya.

I'm with Ronnie. The minstrel photo is insulting. I recall a wooden effigy of one in, of all places, Krabi.  Thais don't understand the history of the struggle.
If you ever have the chance to see the musical "The Scotsborough Boys", there's a magnificent (and tear-jerking) scene at the end when the boys reappear on the stage in black-face. One of the great theatrical moments of my life.

It never lost it, even with an Afro-American president. In fact, the more successful individuals "make it", the more virulent the racism becomes. That is the story of the past ten years.
