I lived and worked in Khao Lak a few years ago. I would definitely going there for a relaxing on the beach. Beautiful, not overcrowded and great hotels. I recommend staying in one of the resorts in Bang Niang town as you will have some restaurants and a nice night market there. Better than sitting in one of the many more remote resorts in my opinion. 
Before covid there was a fun ladyboy cabaret but I was told that place didn't survive the pandemic. Apparently there's a new gaybar in town. But for a remote town as Bang Niang I wouldn't expect too much of it. And you probabaly want to bring your favourite Bangkok or Phuket boy with you to Khao Lak to be sure to have some "fun". When I stayed in Khao Lak area there used to be almost none gays on grindr in the area. Thank god for my regular visits to Phuket and Bangkok during my working months in Khao Lak... Haha! 
Great excursions can be done from Khao Lak are. Khao Sok National Park, Similan Islands, Sunday Market in Takua Pa old town...

Any of you guys visited the out-of-silom host bars? How was the expierence? I am a bit afraid for the Jupiter-effect: very hot and goodlooking guys who are more interested in the female customers who sit down with bottles of alcohol to share with the boys and less interested in us old falang gays looking for a boy to take for the night... 
Is is worth traveling to such a place or better to stick to the knows and closeby places in Silom?

Stayed there when it had a good opening offer and liked the hotel. But have to say I have a weak spot for new modern hotels.

We spoke with Laron about this last night in Dragon Music Lounge. The answer is no, there is no longer any related between the 2 businesses. There was, last year. 
Dragon Music Lounge will remain open. 

Koh Lipe looks good, though reaching requires a boat journey after the plane.
We're off to Koh Samui in a couple of weeks....direct flights on Bangkok Air. I was there in 1998; I suspect it has seen major development since then.  A plus is that it's in a different climatic zone....it's dry when Phuket et al  are wet.

And, they believe you too. Until they find themselves undressed in your apartment saying, "what the fuck in this straight guy doing to me? I'll tell all I flipped him?"

Great news for punters, a committee drafting a new law governing prostitution has agreed that voluntary sexual service without criminal penalties should be allowed from the age of 20. Jintana Chanbamroong, head of the Department of Women’s Affairs and Family Development at the Social Development and Human Security Ministry, chaired the committee drafting the new law.
The new law is a landmark turn in Thailand’s stance on prostitution, the proliferation of which is probably the country’s worst-kept secret. The new law, initially called the Draft Act for the Protection of Sexual Services B.E., would serve as a replacement for the current Prevention and Suppression of Prostitution Act, B.E. 2539 enacted in 1996.
Public and focus group hearings were held in five cities before a proposal was tabled to Social Development and Human Security Minister Juti Krairiksh.
The committee’s main priority was to safeguard and legalise independent sex workers who are at least 20 years old and provide sexual services voluntarily. It would still be illegal to engage in sexual relations with prostitutes under 20 years of age. Also not legal under the new draft, and migrant workers would be barred from engaging in prostitution.
Freelancers will be granted employment rights and welfare benefits, without being labelled as sex workers. They will also have access to fair compensation but are required to undergo health assessments to verify they are free from any communicable illnesses.
The new draft makes clear that it applies only to voluntary services and that the government still takes a hardline stance on forced prostitution. Procurement and trafficking or coercion to force a woman into prostitution would still be a violation of the Human Trafficking Act.
Operators of brothels will be mandated to operate within designated areas, specifically avoiding locations close to educational or religious institutions, and adhering to guidelines for safeguarding their workers who provide sexual services. The committee reviewed prostitution laws in various countries to identify an appropriate standard for Thailand to adopt. After careful consideration, they chose to follow the example of New Zealand’s law that decriminalized prostitution. New Zealand lawfully legalized sex work in 2003, allowing any individual aged 18 or above to purchase or provide sexual services.
The committee will push forward with analysing the societal and economic effects of the draft law while keeping a careful consideration of not damaging Thailand’s reputation. The draft law is expected to be completed and tabled to the new government around August this year.

that was precisely my intention, to show that good time can be had if one wants to have that. And is very easy to find it.
Naysayers may be right that old times were better in terms of variety of options available and certainly more liberal but what I observe every trip , even if options are shrinking , they are still abundant. I was there 14 days , 12 of those in Thailand and only at Hot Male go-go I counted 10 guys I wanted to off . So one can go easily on monodiet.
As for liberal side, very graphic performances may be appealing to some  but appalling to others so not even sure that part is missed that much , I personally like bit of spice in bar shows but that's me. 
I was thinking about missing whole part of Cambodian Charming Prince fiasco as certainly I look stupid falling into that trap but decided it's better to be open, first because it may provide lesson , second because I still cherish memories of those pre-trip days when I was sooo excited such chance opened for me , third to show  that  disaster today may be replaced  by fun soon after and fourth , even if I don't believe what I'm saying , until i hear other side of story , there's vague possibility that that fiasco was not fiasco at all and I should be glad it happened avoiding bigger trouble and expense - again half  full part of glass theory.

Your day-by-day quest to wring the maximum satisfaction out of your limited time will surely inspire others not to allow temporary setbacks to detract from all that Thailand has to offer in terms of sights, sounds and men.

Day 11
I tipped my guy a bit extra , so happy I was. Then we went  downstairs for breakfast, boy went home and I returned to hotel to pack up.
Today I’m going to Pattaya with the mission. Since Tartegogo had similar plans we resolved to go by taxi. And it means  three of us as he decided to take his last night’s  friend  with him. I took small bag with me and left suitcase in Furama asking them to keep her for me till tomorrow.
Then to Raya to meet both gentlemen, they tasked me with finding a taxi which I found on Suriwong in their usual spot in front of Siam Heritage hotel. It took exactly 2 hours to arrive at Jomtien Complex. My companions went to their hotel and I marched to Zing, as always great value for money.
 I mention a mission. Tomorrow is birthday of Handsome Cambodian, guy for whom I have perennial soft spot so I wanted to surprise him with showing up. But as often surprise did not work. I Lined him asking innocently ‘how are you? “ and ‘ where you now?” to get an answer “ on my way to Bangkok, waiting for a van to depart” complete with picture of van and ticket. Ouch, so much for surprise.
But there’s always tomorrow and chance for surprise in Bangkok, we will see how it works. Than I went for  a stroll through Jomtien Complex , then toward Dick’s and on approach to his shop I saw my semi permanent Jomtien guy N. It was perhaps 2.30 or 3 pm. Great surprise , upon learning where I stay he shrewdly suggested we will have massage  in my room instead of shop . I paid 300 massage fee and off we went .
He was bit sad I’ m only tonight in Pattaya but having so little time we decided to utilize it very extensively. Forget about massage. He is way too affectionate for that. It was 6.20 when we both realized we are hungry so went to Dick’s for a supper. Then he went back to the shop and I to @home bar where I was supposed to meet bkkmfj2648. He was there so we had a chat oiled with beer ogling boys in vicinity while yakking. At one moment Tartegogo and his guy passed by  and stopped to greet us.
  I eyed one axe murderer walking by, double treat for me as generally Jomtien Complex guys are not my thing. If I stay longer I’d took him right away but today I was not sure about night’s plans since my surprise failed and I wanted to see show at X-Boys. So all I could do was to surprise him with red note when we passed by in front of his bar. He was nicely surprised no doubt because when I tuned my head after passing him he was still smiling broadly following my sight.
 I hoped to shake hands with gayinpattaya but he was not in bar he apparently  holds the court so it’s task for next trip whenever it will be. But I have witness I had intention if you read this report.
Bkkmfj and me took  baht bus to Boyztown,  stepped  for a moment at BBB greeted by Lek, the mamasan.  Several boys on the stage but none really appealing and then  we went to X-boys . on our way Wit from Paradise Spa eyed me and rushed  to greet me , another guy disappointed they I’m there only one night.
 X-boys bar was full for the show and show itself was very progressive. Audience predominantly Chinese who were extremely excited by what they saw and tipped generously right.  left and center .
While I liked the show very few guy appealed to me  so I send Line to N to wait for me at 12.30 am by Zing so we continue trying to solve world’s problems together.
After show bkkmfj and me returned to Jomtien , he went home and I went to meet N passing by the bars but my axe murderer was absent , hopefully taken by some handsome and generous farang.
 N was waiting , we went to 7/11 to buy some supplies and returned to my room for very active sleepover so to speak. Old people should not exercise that much as it borders on dangerous I thought.
