I am 68 and far too old for these sort of places, but my long long time drags me off to them notwithstanding, but the saving grace is that by the time I am heading there, usually post midnight, I am getting happily drunk, and when they close (about 2am, Hollywood is usually even earlier), and I am being dragged to a karaoke bar (smaller rooms, even louder music), I am usually sufficiently inebriated to just stand there with a happy smile on my face taking in the boys and the atmosphere 😅 until I am led back to our room to sleep for what's left of the night.

14.68 vid 02.43.mp4 (Friendly Club Karaoke - about 3am haha)

My advice to Olddaddy and anyone else facing disappointing service is "mai pen rai"; take it in your stride. You are on holiday and I suspect (and hope ) that the loss of a 100bht note won't result in your going hungry. And I'd say the same if it's  1000bht wasted on an unhappy app encounter or bar off. In such circumstances, pay  and get rid of the miscreant quickly. Shrug your shoulders and say "Next time, it'll be better..."
Perhaps there may even be lessons leaned from your choice of visitor or masseur.
If you wish to make a moral stand, choose an issue of more importance.

I can't find the thread now,but a few weeks ago I asked about transport to Pattaya and got quite a few answers regarding taxi services.
I chose Mike Taxi , and I used the Line app and always got a response immediately.
I told him/her my concerns and how I worry if the taxi doesn't arrive etc and how paranoid I am it's not going to be there etc and they respond immediately " I will make sure the driver meets you "
I think I have anxiety disorder so I tend to catasphrize ( if that's the right word) things that possible could happen eg the taxi doesn't meet me etc and I'm stuck at the airport.
So I emailed & line apped Mike's a few times before arriving so much that he responded to me " Is that you emailing me as well as on Line ?
I said yes ,I just want to make sure it arrives to meet me.
He responded " I will make sure ,no need to keep emailing me "
He obviously thought I was  paranoid  😂 he went quiet for awhile when I said the driver can spot me from my hot pink baseball cap, 🤣 after that he probably confirmef his suspicions I was some kind of nutter 😂
So here I was yesterday my plane arriving in Bangkok and I'm sitting there on the tarmac when a line message beeped from Mike's Taxi " I see your plane just arrived the driver is waiting for you "
I got off the plane quickly and walked fast the "several miles" to the arrivals got thru very quick,so glad I didn't buy the Fast track no need for it.
Waited like 15 minutes for the luggage to arrive and walked out to see my driver walking towards me, ( I told them I was wearing a hot  pink baseball cap,so that helps being spotted😁 Walking towards the carpark the driver suddenly stopped, " oh I forget they want me to tell them when I pick you up"
with that he started texting , I bet they may have asked him " Did you pick up that weirdo yet who sent me 50 emails ! 🤣🤣
approx 1 hour to Pattaya no traffic at that early morning time
Im not sure if " Mike" is a farang owner or not but his contract drivers are excellent!
1200 baht all up ,great value but I gave him a tip too,he waited for my late arrival plane and didn't complain so he was a great driver ,can't remember his Thai name though, apparently he is a contract driver for Mike's and a few others, I didn't ask him if Mike was a farang perhaps.
Now you have to walk to the carpark with the driver, that didn't worry me as I'm quite fit , he offered to wheel my luggage but I declined .
I was surprised when he told me he gets customers who demand to smoke in his car, i don't smoke so I wasn't concerned but I'm shocked people can be so rude
I recommend Mike's Taxi service , I don't know what kind of drivers you may get but it seems the management are very efficient 👍

I would argue that this approach awakens the hunter gatherer in us from our jurassic prehistoric man period.
I also had this behaviour, let's call it a "type of sport".  then earlier in life, I dedicated 5 years to therapy (psychoanalysis) to try to understand my need for this exciting but endless hunt.  I learned that it is partly due to the "fear of commitment", so we "hunt" which cannot lead to a committed relationship.  I am not saying that is what may be going on with the OG of this post - but it is what I learned about myself.
Do I still hunt straight guys?  Yes, but way less than before - as I am now aware of what @Slvkguy wrote, "chaser is prepared for the inevitable" - so I now do it more for entertainment purposes.  And after 5 years of therapy - I am also able to maintain a relationship - but as I write this I am currently single - and content and happy.

While it may seem that I am looking for a unicorn, I've had tons of success back from where I was from (another SEA country).. I was actually surprised that there were even guys who I never for the life of me thought would agree but still I was able to make say yes.

Just an update.. project # 1 is a failure..
I invited him to go on a burmese bar last friday but he just seen zoned me  I tried again last saturday and offered to give a good tip and just sent me a sticker.. then I messaged him again with a sad emoticon and he sent me a voice message in thai.. It was like "I have no time krub.. I have work in the morning and have to work until night.. I have no time..".. His tone was very apologetic and he sounded sooo sweet ughhh.. That made it even harder for me to move on..

So I finally admitted that I think he is cute but he just seen zoned me again :(.. So earlier I was had to play sports and on my way home when I was a few meters from his kiosk.. He seemed like he was glancing towards my direction as if he is checking me if I was going to pass by his kiosk.. The ladies at the kiosk across called his name as if to warn him that I was about to pass by..

When I passed by, he had a customer but he kept glancing towards the direction where I was.. I think he was just pretending he was looking for something just to avoid me

I know that this game is lost already and I have to move on and respect his decision but I'd like to hear what you guys think? Should I try another approach?

Also, I have project # 2 which is a waiter/cook in Amarin Plaza foodcourt haha I haven't made any move yet but I'd like to hear some ideas on how to approach this guy.. Should I act cool and straight first just to not scare him? Or should I leave some hints already that I like him? Amarin Plaza is going to be closed for renovation in two weeks so I kinda need to move fast here haja

The main problem is if I and the boy staying with me have different time routine 4 years ago I had very beautiful 19 yo boy I met in Pattaya we planned to stay together all my vacation about a month but we have some issues and the main problem was that he didn't go to sleep before 3 am and won't get up before 4 pm I am not used to sleep so long hours ( max 7 hours) and wake up so late ( max 8 am) it didn't work between us and our ways separated after less then a week.

Now still sleep at 4am and sleep till 14.00! Always a party to be found in Pattaya, even when closing time was allegedly 21.00!

Will be in Pattaya this week !!!
You know reading another post about sleeping all day and partying all night just got me thinking .
I used to do that say 20 years ago in Pattaya, sleeping all day and then hit the bars at night going to bed at around 4am .
Fast forward 20 years now I'm nearly 60yo and I'm thinking this trip and being now a non drinker I won't be sleeping all day , my routine when I arrive will have to change .
Questions is are you a early riser on your trip, or sleep all day ?
Am I getting a old fart if I make my routine say midnight bed wake 8 or 9am😁, maybe that's too early ,

Both Bangkok Guy and I like clothes and take care how we dress. In other words, we are both gay. We both prefer a classic simple look, although I have a penchant for a splash of color while Bangkok Guy is strictly muted colors. This trip it was a multicolored belt which triggered him “Why you like?” in a tone suggesting that insanity hovered nearby.
As I loathe shopping, have preferences for the cut of my clothes and enjoy choosing fabric, I like to use tailors and assemble what I want. As Bangkok Guy loves shopping and a bargain, he prefers pret-a-porter in markets.
The culture shock of taking him to my tailor was entertaining.
The genesis of this adventure came over dinner at Baan Suriyasai during my last trip when Bangkok Guy made a quiet comment in passing ‘Look like waiter’. He was wearing a new white Chinese collar shirt from Icon Siam and black pants, which did bare a family resemblance to the waiter’s outfit. However I think the motivation for the remark was less his outfit and more mine, as I was resplendent in fresh-from-the-tailor shirt and trousers.
The objective was to get him an outfit he could wear to restaurants and the Bamboo Bar and not look like the waiter – blue blazer with gilt buttons, white trousers and tailored shirts.
Bangkok Guy was curious but hesitant – ‘Not know how’ (to use a tailor). I explained that the objective was to get exactly the cut, cloth and fit he wanted, and found patterns online for collars, cuffs, trousers and jackets to give him an idea of the range of choices, assuring him the tailor could show him.
The whole exercise (for the pair of us, as I had a suit made) took four fittings, two before we left on our travels and two the day we returned.
The first source of amusement came from watching Bangkok Guy instruct the tailor. At the first fitting he was looking for guidance but after that, once it came to discussing the fit, he was in charge. The tailor is a pro, but I couldn’t help wondering how he felt about taking instructions from a young durian trader from Issan. It was all amicable and Bangkok Guy got the fit he wanted – generally looser than the Italian cut favored by the tailor.
After the third fitting I complemented him on how well he was managing the fittings to get what he wanted. A slight smile “I watch you”.
The second source of amusement was the conflict between Bangkok Guy’s love of economy and his love of the way he looked and felt in the tailored clothes.
He looked fantastic and heading out to dinner for the first time in the blazer with a red-and-navy silk pocket square, white trousers and white shirt with blue-lined collar and placket, he was walking on air. Bangkok Guy feels powerless (a topic for another time), a feeling the clothes temporarily removed.
He didn’t know what the clothes cost, but he knew it was too much, especially as he can only use them a couple of times a year when I visit. They are not practical everyday wear for selling durian.
He raised his concern about costs over lunch after the first fitting. “Tailor too expensive”. “Being Falang is expensive” – which response was met by a completely unconvinced look. As with alcohol consumption, he understands that the problem is not a generic Falang issue, but is specific to his particular Falang. After all, I am neither unintelligent nor too old to learn more economical ways from him. He knows that with patience and humor, the old dog can be retrained.
He showed me the website of a tailor offering a complete outfit for 2000bt. “Probably not good cloth, this tailor better”. He graciously changed the topic but did not give up and continued to suggest that for much less money he could get what he needed at a market.
The only argument I had that made any headway was “But then we not same-same”. He likes the idea of being the same, not because of the clothes, but because of the implication that I want us to be closer. After that the tone of the conversation changed. The tailor is still too expensive and markets a much better option, but for a few pieces of clothing that enable us to be “same-same” at restaurants and jazz bars, it is acceptable that we use the tailor.
And, now he has had time to think about it, he would like a pair of trousers-with-braces like mine, as long as the braces are in muted colors. He thinks the braces are cute. I told him I will bring him a pair of braces next trip, so a further visit to the tailor is on the agenda. I am not going to tell him the cost of Trafalgar woven silk braces, as (i) he would call it off and (ii) my sanity, already in question, would look distinctly shaky.
