One of my favourite bars in Europe, Action Bar, has long closed - that was the Budapest highlight that I miss. Yes - Budapest's hey day was when the Action Bar was in its FULL glory.  I lived in Budapest for many years and I went to the Action Bar almost every weekend.  In addition to what you write above, on Thursday nights they had "Meet your Escort" night where you could meet many of the escorts that  you would see in Hunqz or others who did not advertise.  It was fun to meet them outside of the bedroom.

I feel I need to do a short write-up of my experiences in the Northeast - I left some bits and pieces in comments elsewhere in various topics, but let it be a standalone post.

Best days are Thursday and Sunday. Thursday is when all GPs are naked or with a towek wrapped around their dick, plus there's a stripper. The stripper has two outings a night - first a regular strip, but he goes from the stage to the audience to interact - in my case, he sniffed and licked my neck pressing his body into me. The second outing afterwards is with his dick hard - and then he goes to the audience in a similar fashion so you can defo touch. No extra tips that I've seen.

There are a couple of them at best, and they are quite jaded ones - it's better head to California. I really don't understand why it's not happening with Dragon - I can only assume it's high entry fees for garotos, as in terms of facilities there's no even comparison between Dragon and California, but all GPs and their clients are still at California.
There are more cruising bars, like the ones that opened in Rio - Rommeo, Eden, or others - but they are very non-GP ones. I've been to Eden on the night they advertised a live sex show with a visiting porn star, and the vibe was very non-GP - lots of people, incl some young ones, but none appeared to be rentable. Other than that, Fortaleza has quite a quirky underground non-sex LGBT scene - Berlin-style techno parties at The Lights on Fridays and Saturdays, and samba at Teresa e Jorge bar where there's quite some gay presence.
Recife. That was a major surprise. I visited this month for the first time in a few years - I think I did one trip early into the pandemic, but not after that. I remembered there were two saunas - Boa Vista and Blue Thermas - which were normal saunas but with some GP presence. On a visit this month, I was pleasantly surprised by Boa Vista - so much I spent all my three nights there without even visiting Blue Thermas. Boa Vista is the main sauna where quite a few non-hiring Recife guys go, some of them are simply stunning but not GPs for some incredulous reason. However, there is quite a substantial presence of GPs in the sauna, and I had multiple romps. Same as Fortaleza, the universal rate is 100, suites are at 30. On all nights I had their best suite which was itemized in my bill as "presidential suite" - it was 40. 
There is a maze, there are free cabins, there are open showers, it's actually quite a modern clean and very busy sauna where GPs are a fixture but not the main element. Still, you can have lots of fun. I had incredible experiences there, including with a guy who had great muscles and a great smile but was really nervous throughout but very attentive to my needs - when we showered (and the presidential suite has a large shower cabin with two shower heads so you can shower together with a guy and may continue to romp there) he told me he came from a rural inner state area and this was his first ever visit to the sauna and I was his first ever client. As he was visiting from the village, he was planning to stay the night in the sauna - it's open all night and serves free breakfast at 6am to those who are still there. 
Boa Vista also has a separate hall open on weekends which is pretty much a nightclub dance floor - with distinct 1990s high school prom vibes, but lots of local towel-clad patrons dance there which I think is really cute in its strange way and not something I've seen elsewhere in Brazil in saunas.
So actually Recife was a blast. There is an interesting gay quarter 5 mins drive from Boa Vista with a proper night club and a few funky gay bars - I stayed outside on the street with a caipirinha and just observed the crowd. Really good.
Sao Luis. I will mention Sao Luis as I don't think there were any reviews, and I've been possibly three times there, though not since 2021 or 2022, I think. They have a very decent GP sauna called Go.61, or it's called Sauna Go on some of their socials. It's sort of California style, very similar to what Fortaleza has, but with an added bonus of a swimming pool. There are similarly cheap suites and drinks, as well as plenty of free cabins on the upper floor. When I visited, I met really cool guys - again 100 was the usual rate. The best days are Thursday and Sunday. Sometimes they have performances, or bingo - at other times it's usual karaoke or just simple fucking, no complaints. 
Sao Luis is a really good city. On Friday nights, the whole historic center (where the sauna is, btw) turns into one big street party. They also have a week of June fiestas which is pretty much a carnival in June. An hour long public boat ride away with a severely drunk boat captain brings you to the island of Alcantara which is a ruined colonial city lost in time and space - a great day out.
That all pretty much sums up why I liked to come back to Nordeste all recent years - and sometimes (but not always) it's an even more satisfying experience that the meat conveyor belt of 117/202/Lagoa in Rio and SP. Long story short, there is life on other planets in Brazil.

Back in rainy NYC; it seems the rain followed me from Rio. I'm still tired from the long trip, so bear with me, my typos, and my skimpy reports. I will improve over time as I have a chance to rest. But overall, I love it, and I can't wait to come back.
My main recommendation, especially for newcomers or those unfamiliar with the city, is to download and keep offline all the addresses, maps, and locations that you want to visit before going to Rio de Janeiro. As I mentioned before, I had to buy a cheap phone. Thanks to previous posters, I was able to get a 1200 Rreals Motorola phone with Tim mobile that takes your passport number. I got it at my favorite shopping mall in Rio: the Shopping RioSul at Rua Lauro Müller, 116 - Botafogo.
In Rio, it was rainy all week and very humid. I'm not a beach person, and I get red and sore from excessive sun exposure, but I would have loved to have at least a couple of sunny days. I've been to most of the places I intended to visit.
Point 202 hasn't been my favorite; the layout, the paper-thin bedsheets, and the run-down appearance of that place have been a turn-off. or at least i did expect to lo look that way. I didn't go during any of the free cabin days because I didn't want to contend with cheap patrons for a cabin, so I skipped those days at both Point 202 and 117. Last night, Wednesday, I was at 117, and it was very slow. i may do a separate report. 
Out of both of them, 117 has better installations, with two bars, one for the shows and one for the smokers. As with the rest of the saunas with GPs you get your locker and your sandals, walk around, get your drink, and start looking for the best boys. Also, I had a massage; in both, the Point 202 masseur was this cute Colombian boy, but in 117, they had better masseurs. Did I find hot boys in both places? Yes, but I don't think it was the best week for Rio. Maybe the Semana Santa influenced the situation, plus the heavy rain, so I will visit Rio next time.  
I went to these places:
Sauna Rio G Spa: That sauna was pretty disappointing. It is so small and narrow that the type of clientele is not as hot as the reviews about gay Rio locations say it was and that it was closed to the gay area in Ipanema, or at least it wasn't the time I went. The bar is tiny. The second floor has some cabins that make\ t a dark room. I don't know if it was because of the days I went, but with so many other options, I did not it give it another try.\  
Taurus Bar: https://x.com/TaurusBar?s=20 It only opens on weekends. I went on a Friday and Saturday, and it was okay. It is located in Rua da Lapa, 8 - Lapa, an area that people in Rio keep commenting is very popular with bars, but I only visited Taurus Bar and didn't see or find another place in that area. TB has two floors; you pay at the entrance and they give you a locker key but also a wristband. There's a small bar on the way to the lockers. Then, you climb the stairs to a second floor with plenty of public cabins and a back room that doesn't feel as claustrophobic as other dark rooms I've been to before. Also, not that many people were my age (late 50s), and I was the whitest of the white. Most people were late 20s to late 40s and very Latino-looking. Also, I didn't feel any rejection because of my age or my shape or skin color; quite the opposite, I had fun without paying, so that was a new one for me. If you want more details, let me know. I stayed only for an hour.  
Seven Cruising Bar: So far, my favorite bar for just cruising with no GP, at least when I went, I think they may have interactives on Saturdays. I wish I had more time to explore it, but it's completely out of my way and closes at 10 pm, so since I was going to visit the GP saunas every, I went in the noon, and I liked it. It's a hidden location. I took some pictures from outside so you can get an idea.  Another narrow staircase leads the way up, then a tiny foyer to pay for the entrance and then get the locker. I followed what most people were doing: kept my sneakers and walked in underwear without a t-shirt and my big belly out. Out of the only cruising, not GP on-site, Seven Cruising bar has the best-looking people, even better looking than Rio G Spa. It has themes for each day. Rosa sex shop vs. Sex Rose: These establishments have similar and confusing names, with two locations. One is situated in a shopping center, with one on the 3rd floor. However, that one is only a sex shop, so I suggest skipping it. I mention this because most posts for cruising sites display the address as Av. Rio Branco, 156 - Store/Loja 344, but that's not the correct one. The correct location is in-store/ Loja 133 on the lower level of the mall. Similar to most other places, this one is pretty narrow with 3 or 4 cabins, and the patrons are mostly over 40.
The tricky part is that there is another Rose Shop called Sex Rose. I believe this other shop is the one that some other posters in the forum have mentioned. This one was hard to find for some reason, as the address got confused. However, it is located in the area called Cinelandia. It sits on a very narrow street that taxis will have a hard time navigating. This one is located next to an old movie theater called Cinema Rex, at Rua Alvaro Alvim 37. The other Rose shop is better; it is dark and has a lot of hallways. It has two floors; you pay 25 reals, and it is the typical maze with a bunch of cabins, most of them playing movies. That is it, for now, coming soon part 2 or 3 lol. It is a lot to take in. I am not in the best shape, and the humidity took the fun out of my knees. But definitely the highlight, at least for me, is the GP saunas.

Flew here from Surabaya on Lion Air. Many people in Jakarta told me not to fly them, horrible record.

Check-in was efficient, line moved fast, flight left on time, was only 40 minutes and arrived 5 mins late. Since it was Chinese New Year weekend coming up, Bali airport was super busy and my luggage was the last one out....yeah, I was getting nervous. So much better arriving Bali domestically than International.

Was waiting for Grab car when an independent driver convinced me to go with him for the same price, Grab was moving really slow in traffic, but as usual, nothing is at it seems. The indie taxi was in a garage and it took us longer to get out of the garage than Grab would've taken.....

Staying in Seminyak at the Primera hotel, an old IBIS, small rooms but super convenient to the bars and beach, $25 usd a night with minifridge and a balcony, cheaper rooms run 17 a night.

Met a guy on Grindr while in Surabaya that was in Bali, since distance isn't shown in Indonesia, it's common to move into an area far away while scrolling. Hooked up with him 2 nights, wasn't a money boy and had a thick dick with a big head, he was horny as a mf. That's a common theme in Indonesia, even the mb's don't get clients as often as Brasil or Thailand, so they come loaded and ready to shoot.

My good friend said if I go to Colombia, he'd try to go or I go alone to Santo Domingo....decisions, decisions.

I get industry rates at Hilton branded hotels....in SDQ they're about 15 mins outside of the colonial zone in BOG- located all over....

The question is what kind of friend. I think many westerners think friendship is by definition two equals. My experience is that in many other parts of the world this isn't true. These relationships come with expectations that the richer/older/wiser is the patron/mentor. Note the richer part. That doesn't mean the relationship is purely mercenary (though it could be), but it does often mean that the richer one is supposed to 'help' the younger one.
So, I think it isn't always either/or. Sometimes its both.
Proceed with whatever caution you deem warranted and assess it in the light that both want something from the relationship and it may not be the same thing even if both are fond of each other.

Last year I visited the states 4 times which I think was a bit much, each for around 2 weeks.  I moved here because they have a very good permanent resident vehicle which is the VITEM XIV retirement visa.  It's quite easy to get, there is a visa handler in Houston that has fast service at the consulate there, and things just sort of worked out.  There is a large alumni community here from the school I attended in New York City which is extremely active-many events in English.  But yes, I moved here for the boys. 
I stayed here wanting a change of pace, living in a foreign country for the first time, and the legality of sex work as well as the relatively very inexpensive cost of living, Sao Paulo I believe is the most expensive city in Brazil to live in.  I stayed for the other reasons outlined.  
 
As far as the visa goes, anyone can PM me for a recommendation of a great handler and I would very much suggest getting him.  He knows what will fly and what will not.  I am in my 3rd year, which means my permanent residence card is most likely indefinitely renewed.  They want in the first 2 years to send US$2,000/month to a Brazilian bank and that's it.  Not a W. Europe Golden visa 1MM euros R/E  needed (then again brazil does not compare in any way to Western European countries.  In 4 years from entrance, one can get dual citizenship with the USA, and that opens up pretty easy portugual access which is of course EU, sort of a side door if in the future you want an EU passport.     Not everyone has liquid or even at all 1MM euros at close hand.  On the other hand, an expense I have been very pleased with is finding an attorney to help me negotiate leases and handle RNM (permanent resident card) renewals, etc.  That only happened in October of last year putting him on retainer.  it takes a while for people to open up an give you the not 100 (or 100%) gringo surcharge, but it happens.  Anyone who wants to know more can PM me here.  I love this site!   Scott

WOW.  I love getting to the point.  I found some amazingly well-hung (22-24) sized boys in Recife, my favorite is the olive completed but not quite black guys very well-hung and thick.  The thing is, they do not charge double like in Sao Paulo and assume that because they bring that to the party, they don't have to do much more (like kiss or have passion.). Boa Vista is the main sauna where quite a few non-hiring Recife guys go, some of them are simply stunning but not GPs for some incredulous reason. However, there is quite a substantial presence of GPs in the sauna, and I had multiple romps. Same as Fortaleza, the universal rate is 100, suites are at 30. On all nights I had their best suite which was itemized in my bill as "presidential suite" - it was 40. 
There is a maze, there are free cabins, there are open showers, it's actually quite a modern clean and very busy sauna where GPs are a fixture but not the main element. Still, you can have lots of fun. I had incredible experiences there, including with a guy who had great muscles and a great smile but was really nervous throughout but very attentive to my needs - when we showered (and the presidential suite has a large shower cabin with two shower heads so you can shower together with a guy and may continue to romp there) he told me he came from a rural inner state area and this was his first ever visit to the sauna and I was his first ever client. As he was visiting from the village, he was planning to stay the night in the sauna - it's open all night and serves free breakfast at 6am to those who are still there. 
Boa Vista also has a separate hall open on weekends which is pretty much a nightclub dance floor - with distinct 1990s high school prom vibes, but lots of local towel-clad patrons dance there which I think is really cute in its strange way and not something I've seen elsewhere in Brazil in saunas.
So actually Recife was a blast. There is an interesting gay quarter 5 mins drive from Boa Vista with a proper night club and a few funky gay bars - I stayed outside on the street with a caipirinha and just observed the crowd. Really good.
Sao Luis. I will mention Sao Luis as I don't think there were any reviews, and I've been possibly three times there, though not since 2021 or 2022, I think. They have a very decent GP sauna called Go.61, or it's called Sauna Go on some of their socials. It's sort of California style, very similar to what Fortaleza has, but with an added bonus of a swimming pool. There are similarly cheap suites and drinks, as well as plenty of free cabins on the upper floor. When I visited, I met really cool guys - again 100 was the usual rate. The best days are Thursday and Sunday. Sometimes they have performances, or bingo - at other times it's usual karaoke or just simple fucking, no complaints. 
Sao Luis is a really good city. On Friday nights, the whole historic center (where the sauna is, btw) turns into one big street party. They also have a week of June fiestas which is pretty much a carnival in June. An hour long public boat ride away with a severely drunk boat captain brings you to the island of Alcantara which is a ruined colonial city lost in time and space - a great day out.
That all pretty much sums up why I liked to come back to Nordeste all recent years - and sometimes (but not always) it's an even more satisfying experience that the meat conveyor belt of 117/202/Lagoa in Rio and SP. Long story short, there is life on other planets in Brazil.
 

I agree - I always check the bill both at 117 and at Pointe.
There has been maybe only one or two occasions at 117 when the bill was incorrect - but I quickly got that it's a habit at Pointe. In the past few years, it got so bad that I started laughing correcting the bill every bloody time - every night at Pointe there would be extra drinks or extra items (the receptionist would bring one of the bar staff and the item/s would get removed - but it just happened almost every time).
It got slightly better when Junior's son started to man the reception, and he's also very friendly - however, even with him some games continue. Once, I saw a charge for a suite on a free suite night on Weds - Junior's son told me, "oh you had a nicer suite, they are not free". Those who've ever been to any Rio sauna, be it 117 or Pointe, know that no single suite there is any nice. After a bit of an argument, that paid suite became free as it should be.
On another night, there was a "cleaning fee" - again, Junior's son claimed this was added to the bill by a cleaning lady - and there was nothing untoward in the suite apart from your usual cum on the sheets. That cleaning fee stayed. I didn't get any extra drinks on the bills recently though - but even though I like Pointe and I want them to succeed, this is the only sauna in Brazil I'm constantly disputing my bills with. With their attendance clearly dropping in the past 2 years and them ceding even more ground to 117, I fear this is the very wrong strategy on their part.

When I was checking in to a hotel in Dubai recently, the porter, after bringing me to the room and showing me the AC etc, then suggested that we exchange Whatsapp details.
On seeing me look at him in confusion, he said that it was so I could send him a Whatsapp message down in the lobby if I needed him to bring me something...
Despite being to Pattaya five times, it was only after giving him a polite refusal and ushering him out, that I realised that he was probably about try and hook me up with either a lady of the night, or himself!
As it was a very straight hotel, and he was in Indian guy who gave off very straight vibes, i suspect it was the former.
I was sorry after I hadn't said yes, just to see what I would get offered...

I don't let him bother me, I always want to see the bill, especially at these saunas.... if I'm with a friend that's buying a lot of drinks, I keep track on whatsapp with him of everything ordered....when the waiters/bartenders see gringos ordering a lot, they figure they won't notice a few more drinks and tack some on....I'm like an IRS audit at checkout matching my list with theirs.....about 75% of the time there are "errors".

Yesterday, a friend of mine, a regular in Pointe, was charged 2 bottles of whisky for 900 BRL. He did not drink any whisky ... the barman came and accepted that it was maybe an error ... then my friend realized that he had been charged for 3 rooms when he actually only used 2 ... the  barman was still at reception when my own bill appeared on the screen and he said : "I forgot the Heineken you had !" I made fun of him asking him how he could remember what the various customers had drunk and claimed that I did not drink any beer. They accepted to remove the item. Last time I went there, they tried to charge me a room on a free cabin night since I had spend 3 minutes more in the room ie 33 minutes instead of 30 minutes. 
One boy mentionned to me yesterday that he recently left the place with a customer who was drunk and the customer was overcharged by ... 1000 BRL.
So, check your bill in Pointe ! 

Well, I'm not fixated on the size per se - unlike Salvador that is a very black city, the ones in Nordeste are definitely lighter, but not as much as SP or Porto Alegre. In Fortaleza, there was one indigenous guy from the hinterlands in Amazonas who was simply outstanding. I'd say it's a healthy mix of various types there.
I really liked festivals in Sao Luis - I was at the June one and it was almost Carnival-like. It's a city thriving on music, so I came back a couple of times.
