Gay rights here in Brazil apart from marriage are non existent...yeah there's marriage but there's no law which protects LGBT people...and there will never be any. The country is gay friendly because of the way the inhabitants think...to brazilians (most) there's nothing strange. Sex industry (saunas and rentmen) will not get touched... On the contrary, Bolsonaro has increased the minimum wage for 2019 by an amount lower than the one expected by the budget law. I hope you are right about the saunas. I don't know what rentmen would have to do with Brazil because rentmen is a website based in Europe. While the saunas are based in Brazil. I know I previously posted the below article about a Sao Paulo sauna getting raided. Clients and garotos were forced to face a wall for photographers while police searched through client and garoto lockers. No one was arrested during the raid. The raid was solely a form of harassment. Let the below linked article be a reminder of how vulnerable saunas in Brazil can be. With Bolsonaro now in charge, anything gay is more vulnerable. It had nothing to do with Bolsonaro. The sauna had been in its location for many years without a problem. However, the building directly across the street from the sauna was renovated and made into a church. Although the sauna was there years before the new church was installed, the church people were horrified that a house of prostitution was located directly across the street from their place of worship. Hence, calls to the police were a regular thing from the church people. As a result, the police continued to visit (harass) the sauna users regularly but never arrested anyone. After so many frequent and nonsensical raids, clients and garotos stopped going to the sauna. I visit Brazil often and I have no plans to stop visiting. Due to the current climate (not weather climate) I will now be more vigilant while in Brazil. Perhaps gay right are not federally protected in Brazil (I do not know), but there is legislation in Bahia that protects gays against discrimination and harassment. The guys I have meeting overt there are extremely concerned. What is specially worrying in Brazil with civil and social rights in general (thinking beyond gay rights) is the absence of a strong civil society like in the USA. The Bahianos I talked to consider Bolsnaro's win as a military take over through elections.Do not forget Latin American military are not like the USA's, they have systematically violated the constitutions and attacked their own people. In part, USA's School of Americas in Panama is responsible. During the 70s and 80s Latin American military ranks were trained on something called "National Security Doctrine". According to this Doctrine, the military in our countries switched from national defense policies to watch and repress the enemies inside boundaries, meaning social movement, unions, civi rights leaders, and of course everyone who embraces socialism or communism or any leftist ideology. About gay couple rights, again no federal general law protecting it, but the understanding of the STF is that they have the same rights as heterosexual couples. (Including recognizing any cohabitational relationship that has public knowledge as a “stable union” with rights of pension and 50% of the possessions acquired by the work of “couple” during the duration of the relationship. Because the boys all know the rule!! and in this persons case, both guys exited at 1 year and one day to go live with their girlfriends, and sue for 1/2 the assets! But what they didn't brief you on are your hefty monthly ALIMONY payment obligations in that case. Which is one of the few things in Brazil that are actually legally enforced. Ex-husbands are routinely jailed for failing to pay court-imposed alimony and child support. Nothing else in the justice system seems to work. All sauna boys know this because many or even most of them have had to pay this or deal with those consequences. So they may be counting on your future spousal support to pay their own spousal support while with their current girlfriends LOL.
