January 9Jan 9 I would recommend Pulman G have stayed there 26 days this trip. Joiner friendly although you have to buy third breakfast. Rooms are older but comfortable and an easy 10 minute walk to soi 4

January 10Jan 10 Currently staying at new Voco Surawong. Superb breakfast spread. Everything is new. Room size can't be helped because fixed size from previous hotel Tawana Hotel. Cheaper than Le Meridien. Splendid location.

January 10Jan 10 Author Thanks for all the good recommendations! Nice to see some familiar names alongside new ones! @vinapu it's been more than six years since our drink together. Regarding hotels, I narrowed it down to four options: 1. So/ - A very tempting deal for an incredible suite. But, location wise it's a bit on the further side. 2. Voco - a new refreshing addition. My hesitation is that the price is not that much cheaper than the meridian so maybe go spend a bit more and enjoy my favorite Silom hotel. 3. Le meridien - my favorite location. 4. The quarter - The best location. Not sure I wanna stay in 27 sqm for 5 nights. I've made 4 different reservations and decide a couple of days before. Probably will choose le Meridien. Thanks for all the nee info!! I've just discovered that my travel dates are during CNY. I do hope that does not mean too much people. Thanks again! Feel free to add any useful fresh ideas. Also looking for info regarding upscale gyms with cruisy lockeroom/sauna.

I can best describe it as a Holiday Inn with a different colour scheme. I didn’t like the attitude of the staff and the lack of local features in the decor and cuisine. The saving grace was a good breakfast buffet albeit nowhere near as good as Le Meridien. Le Meridien and Crowne Plaza Lumpini Park are much better options.

Thanks, pics are often misleading. The sun deck at the Meridien is currently 3/4 closed, for renovation, which is tedious during perfect weather. Surely they could have done it in off season. I always used to stay at the Dusit, but it's gone up several grades in price. Also it's Olddaddy taxi range to Patpong!

The hotel is connected to the mall, the mall is connected by a bridge to the BTS, and you’re at Soi 4 already. Just a short hop to anywhere else you might want to be.

No, most ethnic Thais/Siamese will not be going back to their hometowns to celebrate Chinese New Year, The "Thai Chinese" will, though. Some of the Siamese will, of course, take the opportunity to go home since their ethnic Chinese employers may have closed the business for the Chinese New Year, but the Siamese do not celebrate Chinese New Year, per se. The Siamese will celebrate only to the extent that they are happy to celebrate anything and everything. In September or October, as I was riding down Silom Road past the Hindu temple, they were having some massive festival with lots of Hindu idols laid out on makeshift altars along the road. It took forever for my motosai to negotiate that stretch of the road because it was completely packed with Thais who had shown-up to partake. The sight of Thai girls in Sarees with vermillion marks on their foreheads was rather sweet. I love the way Thais embrace things and make them their own while staying true to what they are as a people.
