I feel super lucky to have had their attention on this trip. It was the ego boost I definitely needed as the past 10 years, I’ve pretty much kept myself back in the States. Once you hit your 40s those Grindr notifications start slowing significantly. At least for the guys that are my type. I wish my taste in guys would evolve to guys my age, but I’ve kind of lost hope on that. 😆

I think in the gay world, like the hetero world, people are attracted to someone younger when it comes to sex.

I discovered this when living in Japan.

As a young foreigner I had to push the guys away from me in the clubs and gay cinemas. It was paradise.

But after my mid-thirties I became somewhat invisible, considered too old by many.

In a country like Japan where youthfulness is revered, the only free sex I can get from young guys these days is the odd daddy-chaser or a guy interested in having sex with a foreigner, just for the 'exotic' experience.

It almost happened a couple years ago. I was so excited. This guy I had a crush on in high school added me on Facebook. Back in the day he was on the swim team… had the perfect swimmer body and cutest smile. He was effeminate back then so I knew he was gay, but I was way in the closet at that point. Now it’s years later and he still looks great for his age. He started liking all my photos. I did the same. We lived about 30 minutes away. Kept talking about getting together sometime to catch up even though we were really not at all close. We just knew of each other in high school.

Life happened and communication slowed. At about three months later, he posted a photo with him and his fiancé announcing they were getting married.

This thread has ended up as useless as my Koh Samui one. Friday night in Chiang Mai and I'm not going to a bar or getting a massage. Sorry all lol.

Ended up skipping Mae Kampong so I could spend another day with the local. Started off with some bedroom fun here at the Airbnb. We then went up to the rooftop pool and it turned into a photoshoot. I'm a wanna be photographer and he was impressed with my work especially once I showed him color correction. You really can't take bad shots up there anyway... it's a beautiful infinity pool and you've got the mountains in the background and it was sunset.

He loves Italian food, as do I, so we checked out a place near my Airbnb I'd walked by a bunch times. It was good but like last night, nothing worth plugging. Dessert again in my bedroom and he just left... he's working at 6a tomorrow. Two rounds again today - so yeah not at all horny tonight to go to find paid fun... this kid has more than taken care of that need.

So the juggling act begins in 24 hours. Heard from the Bangkok teacher. He is coming after all. Here we go.

The only one that that conversation has happened with is this new one. The Japanese teacher is a sweet guy, but his English is really limited. It’s not like we have that soulmate thing going on. 😉 the second one lives in Cambodia so no that was never really a discussion. He was just visiting Bangkok. We’re still in touch on social though. The guy who lives here … yesterday we had the talk that I had with the other two that I hope he finds someone who makes him happy. But he’s probably the one of the three that if he’s single when I do get back here for good I would totally be down to date. My ideal timeframe would be to move here in May or June. But I’ve got a lot to do before that. And I still haven’t decided if it’s going to be Chiang Mai or Bangkok.

nothing sums up my trip to Ko Samui more with the lack of action in my bedroom and the nonexistent scene there than the amount of attention given to my 711 visits 😆

I did get some useful tips from that thread though. Those electrolyte powders really work well I’d never used one before. Have to admit I didn’t care much for the boss coffee but I think I just got the wrong flavor. I’m not a black coffee drinker. Definitely gonna make sure I have another one of those milk buns before I go back to the states.

Forgot to share a moment yesterday that cracked me up. @spoon was asking if when I get back if I would date any of these guys I’ve been seeing. I have mixed feelings on it. All three were fun experiences here while I’m thousands of miles away from home. But back home, I could never date someone half my age. I wanna bring my guy to family functions, out for drinks with coworkers. I would feel really awkward bringing someone with such an age gap in the real world. That said when I move here maybe I would be more open to it.

Anyway, the moment yesterday that cracked me up is the Chiang Mai guy and I were on the couch at my Airbnb chatting and cuddling. His age came up. But I remembered that in my Grindr profile I don’t list my age so I asked him to guess. I’m sure he was being polite but his first guess was 34. I’m assuming by guessing 34 he really thought around 40 or 45 which is also flattering. I’m in my early 50s and that blew his mind. Sure enough his mom is two years older than I am. I always hate hearing that. 😆

No, it’s only been three days. Ha ha. Valid question though. In the big picture, Bangkok really would score more points that way. I got a lot more attention from guys my type when I was there. While things like healthcare, cost-of-living and quality of life are the most important things to me, the chances of finding someone special is probably a back of my head factor. I haven’t really dated anyone seriously in 10 years actually 15. It’s just been little play things like this usually when I’m on vacation. And more often than not I pay for the affection. So this has been all new again and it’s definitely made me feel like I’m back in my younger hotter days. It certainly scores more points for Thailand overall. There was a thread about this a few weeks ago I chimed in on. For those of us into younger guys, and are looking for something real and not transactional, there are many more possibilities here.

Yep my guy (who is not that young btw….early 30s) once told me his mom was “very old” and needed him back home as she didn’t have many years left. She was in her 50s.

Next time you're in 7-Eleven, you may want to pick up a can or bottle of Birdy coffee. Birdy is another Japanese coffee brand, made by the multi-national Ajinomoto Co. They have many varieties, including some lower sugar types. The larger 7-Eleven stores will likely carry a wider variety.

He’s a lot of fun for sure. But yeah, like I said even him I had that conversation that I want him to find someone that makes him happy. When you’re in your 20s like he is, it’s your time to have fun and explore the world and all the possibilities. I don’t want him saving a spot for some old geezer like me who still hasn’t decided where or when he’s going to be back.

I’ve had a couple situations similar to this when I was in Colombia. Two of the guys I would date if I lived there. One was just pure animalistic fun lol. But I’m still in touch with all three. One in particular I still converse with pretty much every day. Another teacher by the way. But I never ask if he’s met anyone and I certainly don’t bring up guys I’ve met.
