Authorities are calling for immediate quarantine and Covid-19 testing for 157 passengers of 7 flights to and from Phuket in the last few weeks. Passengers on these 7 domestic flights, mostly between Phuket and Bangkok, are considered at risk after Covid-19 infections were found on each flight. A couple of years ago a new Director of Immigration decided that those retired in Thailand would have to cough up more cash for renewal of their annual retirement visa. Retirement in this case means anyone 50 or over. Prior to the change, there were two cash requirements for renewal. The first was to have a pension of a minimum of 65,000 baht remitted monthly with some sort of proof from an Embassy that you had this level of income, or you parked 800,000 baht into a savings account for three months prior to the renewal date. I had an appointment early this week for a Colonoscopy. I have not had any issues but being over 50, I wanted to get one to check for any issue. I wanted the insurance to pay for it so I got a pre-approval for 79,500 baht which is what the doctor said would be max. I spent one night preparing. I had to take Dulcolax at 7PM the night before and then AirX at 3AM. I also had drink PEG solution from 2-4AM. All of this was the night before and cleared out my system. When my partner and I visit Jomtien we always stay at The Agate which is unfortunately now closed, although thankfully they tell me they will re-open when conditions allow.
