I tend to favour lightweight & quick drying clothing for use in warm climates. Hence I'm slowly migrating from cotton T-shirts to synthetics. Trousers seem to be more of a challenge. I was delighted to see some North Face shorts which were light, fitted well & had 4 zip pockets on the front. Nylon material, but with a reasonable finish. When discounted down from £60 to £40 the price was also tolerable. I was initially quite happy with this purchase & soon picked up a second pair. Then the first problem cropped up. They are supposed to be washed at 30C and if washed at a higher temperature, as is common at Thai laundries, they turn into…

From Coconuts Bangkok Postponed time and again, a ruling on the legality of same-sex civil unions was again punted today by the court. The Constitutional Court this morning postponed its ruling on a challenge that the legal definition of marriage – man and woman – violates the constitution’s equal protection clause. It now plans to render judgment on Dec. 14. The case was brought by Permsub Sae-ung and Puangphey Hengkham – who were together over 12 years when their marriage registration was rejected at Bangkok’s Phasi Charoen District Office on the basis that they were “a woman and a woman.” The couple filed a complaint at the Centra…

A month or two ago, I read an article about the business model of onlyfans.com. Nothing really new there, but apparently the lockdowns from Covid have accelerated its business many times. Purveyors of in-the-flesh pleasures pivoted to selling virtual interactions instead. I am curious if Thai guys, many of whom must be badly out of work for months and months, have also tried to sell themselves virtually. I see no discussion anywhere about this (but then I haven't really looked hard) so my impression is that they have not. If so, is it for want of trying or might there be technical obstacles? Or do you think there's really no market for online interactions with …

From Bangkok Post The Advance Passenger Processing System (APPS) is being upgraded to check incoming air passengers for their health documentation ahead of their arrival as the country is set to reopen to international tourism starting next month, according to the Airports of Thailand (AoT). AoT president Nitinai Sirismatthakarn told a talk programme on Tuesday a similar system has been in place to single out people with criminal records as a means of heightening border security. The APPS allows customs officials, airport and airline staff and immigration police to obtain the profiles of passengers from their countries of origin. They are able to check if p…

From The Nation Aswin Kwanmuang spoke after inspecting the Bueng Nong Bon drainage tunnel project, which stretches from Nong Bon in southeastern Bangkok to the Chao Phraya River. The 5-metre-wide tunnel runs west for 9.4 kilometres at a depth of 30 metres. Starting from Rama IX Park in Nong Bon, the tunnel links with Bang Ao Canal and features seven drainage stations along the route to Bangkok’s main river. The project launched in January 2016 and is scheduled for completion on February 15 before opening a month later. “Bueng Nong Bon drainage tunnel will help prevent flooding on On Nut Road, Udom Suk Road and Sukhumvit Road,” said Aswin. The tun…

So I had an old friend in Bangkok who messaged me out of the blue, which made me think about Thailand, which made me think about this forum. It has been 20(!) months since my last Thailand trip, in December 2019. It has been way too long. I have, of course, been putting most of my travel eggs in the Brazil basket this pandemic, which is a pretty good consolation prize, since going to Thailand seems to still not be in the cards any time soon, and I have a feeling, not even this year. I always wondered how Brazil can be as open like they are - with virtually all the boy saunas open. Even if the big Brazilian gay dance clubs are still closed, I'll take that over the t…

From Thai Enquirer The cabinet on Tuesday approved measures to attract foreign investors and experts to Thailand for a long-term stay with a 10-year visa. Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, the government’s spokesman, said that the measures should attract more than one million foreign investors and experts within five years, which should increase the amount of money spent in the economy by more than one trillion baht. “This includes 800 billion baht from the expected increase in investment and 270 billion baht from the expected increase in tax collections,” he said. The measures include: A 10-year “long-term resident visa,” also for spouse and childr…

The following interview is with a former female sex worker in Pattaya who is now living and working in Isaan. But I think what she has to say could have just as well been said by her male contemporaries. From National Public Radio (US) By Suchada Phoisaat and Aurora Almendra In February, NPR published a story on the tolls of the pandemic on Thailand's sex workers. Before COVID-19 hit, international tourism made up 20% of the country's gross domestic product — and fueled a thriving sex industry. That collapsed in March 2020 when the country shut its borders to keep the coronavirus at bay. Sex workers in the cities of Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket struggl…

From Bangkok Post The Tourism and Sports Ministry vows to open the whole country without quarantine by January next year, but such a move largely depends on nationwide herd immunity. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, the tourism and sports minister, said Bangkok was scheduled to reopen in October as part of the second phase for the country, but this phase has been delayed to November as the majority of residents will not receive their second vaccine dose until the end of October. "The plan for Bangkok is more challenging as it has extended territory covering vicinities that require more elaborate standard operation procedures [SOPs]," he said. Meanwhile, Chian…

From Anthem Press A Longitudinal Study of Young, Rural, Same-Sex-Attracted Men Coming of Age By Jan W. de Lind van Wijngaarden Anthem Studies in Sexuality, Gender and Culture This book presents the very first analysis of male homosexuality in modern rural Thailand that is based on sociological/anthropological research directly with 25 young same-sex attracted men. It explores changes in the way men view and describe their sexuality over time by interviewing them three times over a period of around 18 months. The men are followed during an important transition in their lives: the end of their high school years and the end (in most cases) of their …

From Channel News Asia Social platform helps small eateries survive Wilailak Thanakitwibul, 68, cooks for a customer at Three Aunties', a small eatery on Bangkok's Samran Rat road. (Photo: Pichayada Promchertchoo) BANGKOK: The sound of a metal spatula against a wok was a familiar greeting to visitors at a small eatery on Samran Rat road. Aromatic smoke, sometimes with a spicy note of chillies, and the sizzling of food over hot flames used to fill its little unpretentious space on the ground floor of an old shophouse. For five decades, its occupants - three sisters now in their 60s and 70s - have cooked and served an array of local dishes to g…

From Bangkok Post Support for mid-Oct launch grows with fall in infections, jabs boost When Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha announced on June 16 that the country was gearing up for reopening in 120 days, many wondered if he had set himself an unattainable goal. The country was languishing in the throes of the Covid-19 crisis and prognoses about the pandemic were not encouraging. The daily caseload was spiking at a time when the government had fumbled over vaccine procurement as it tried to figure out when the next batch of vaccines would come from. It is now half-way through the 120-day deadline that falls in mid-October. Daily infections which peaked…

The Thai vaccination rate is over 500,000 per day at present. If they keep that up for a few months, it's about an extra 60 million doses delivered by the end of the year. I guess we will be seeing some board members visiting Thailand later in the year. https://www.pattayamail.com/thailandnews/over-28-1-million-people-in-thailand-have-received-vaccines-369142

I listened to the live broadcast and heard this with my own ears. And, I know no one speaking from a government podium would ever lie to me. Article: Expats are included in Thailand’s vaccination plan, a spokesperson from the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration said today, clarifying recent reports that said Thais have priority in the first phase of inoculations. The spokesperson says comments were taken out of context and, in fact, foreigners have already been included in the first phase of vaccinations. We’d like to confirm that Thailand’s vaccination strategy is based on ensuring accessibility to all those who require it, regardless of their nat…

I have now had 7 friends do the Phuket quarantine Sandbox. They said it was fabulous and no issues. They can't book flights to Bangkok but they are taking a taxi which is about 12-15k baht. Overall, not a bad price. I was told by all they did what they wanted and toured multiple places and had a great holiday.

I've been cautious of earlier predictions but there are signs that have foreshadowed slowing in other nations now beginning to show in Thailand. From Bangkok Post Signs have emerged that suggest Covid-19 infections are about to level off despite a doctor warning the country could see up to 400,000 new cases. Apisamai Srirangson, an assistant spokeswoman for the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), said there are encouraging indicators about the outbreak situation, noting that the number of new infections is no longer on a steep upward curve. The rate of infections in Greater Bangkok is at 41% while it is at 59% in the provinces, and the…

I'd think that size would be the among the last possible complaints a sex partner would harbor these days, but that didn't deter officials from tracking down the distributors of penis enlargers and other sex toys Monday in Bangkok. From the Thaiger Thousands of sex toys valued at more than 3 million baht were seized yesterday by officers from the Child and Women’s Welfare Department in Bangkok’s Nong Khaem district. Two men were arrested. Around 5,000 dildos, penis enlargement devices, penis massage oils and lubricating gels were seized from a warehouse off the Petchkasem highway. Fake Rolex and Gucci watches were also confiscated. Officers arrested 47 year…

From The Thaiger he Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration quietly okayed the Russian Sputnik vaccine as one of the accepted vaccine brands for international travellers entering Sandbox destinations in Thailand. The vaccine had previously failed to receive approval from the Food and Drug Administration for import and use in Thailand. The Department of Disease Control is now expected to approve the order from the CCSA by the end of August, moving one step closer to the ability for Russians and others from the dozens of countries who used the Sputnik vaccine to travel to Thailand soon. Tropical Thai destinations have long seen strong visitor numbers from Rus…

From The Nation The plant-based vaccine project is a collaboration between Chulalongkorn University and Baiya Phytopharm Ltd. It uses a subunit protein extracted from tobacco leaves to mimic Covid-19 and trigger an immune response in recipients. The project launched in February 2020 and has since produced successful results in rats and monkeys. “The Public Health Ministry and National Vaccine Institute have handed a budget of 160 million baht to Chula and Baiya to establish a pilot plant to produce plant-based vaccines and biologics by transforming the 11th floor of Chulaphat 14 building [at Chula] into a 1,200 square metre manufacturing facility,” said Anu…

I have ordered multiple items from JIB this week. I like it as they deliver in Bangkok within 3 hours. They also send out a video of the items being package so you can see all things put into packing box. And, they all have on gloves, etc. The fast delivery is a real benefit in Bangkok as my computer broke and I don't want to buy a new IMac until the 27 inch one comes out. So, I have bought other things to make my laptop last until I get the newest M1 or M2 chip for 27 inch IMac. I also order a laptop PC from them for a friend and fast processing and delivery. I have used this company for years but for an emergency and not able to go to stores in BKK to buy, this has been…
