Upon arrival in Pattaya, the bars were still open, so I decided to visit a few gogo bars. Well that was the plan. The first was Winner. There were about 4 tables occupied by customers and a very nice selection of lads on stage. Well above average. Several were candidates for offs, but then I spotted an old favourite who I hadn't seen for a couple of years. Drinks plus off fee were about 640 baht. As someone else said, the old policy of 600 baht off fee before 10pm is no longer applied. Good value. About 3 or 4 of the nearby host bars were open. The plan to do several bars was then abandoned, in favour of long time with my friend. The lad is one of very few who …

This news item does not bode well for a return to anything like normal in the next year and more. THAI is laying off 395 pilots leaving the airline with only 905. Worse, it is grounding much of its wide body fleet - the Boeing 747s, A380s and A330-300s. This is in addition to the A340s which it has been trying unsuccessfully to sell for about 8 years and which are stored at U-Tapao. Other airlines have been reducing their fleets by getting rid of long haul aircraft. British Airways has already sent its 31 747-400s off to a graveyard in the States. Qantas has mothballed all its A380s until 2003. This surely presages a major reduction in long haul travel. https:/…

  3. Nicole Johnston was watching COVID-19 cases climb toward a new high at home and wanted her son back in Thailand, where he had previously lived and attended university. Last month they began the process of booking what’s known as “Alternative State Quarantine” for his first two weeks of isolation upon arrival from South Africa. Her son, Thabo Thusi, completed a travel site’s online inquiry form and soon heard back via email from several hotels. He reached terms with one, but after paying THB35,000 (USD$1,170) to book the room, Thusi was surprised by an email from the hotel requesting another transfer of the same amount. “This caution fees came to stay as a result…

  4. Thai media Siam Rath went down to Pattaya to investigate after the words "La Laew Pattaya" - Goodbye Pattaya - were trending on Facebook site Pattaya Talk. It appeared that everyone was loading their possessions onto pick-ups and heading back to the villages. There were supportive comments but there was no hiding the abject depression. Pattaya, once packed full of tourists and life especially in the high season is now deserted. To confirm this Siam Rath went to the resort and saw that many apartment complexes were for sale or lease - some didnt have a single person staying in them any more. Phasakorn Suntharot - the owner of Suntharot Apartment -…

I am stuck at home dreaming about Thailand. Just out of curiosity, I looked up MyHero & Google says that it is 'permanently closed'. Anyone have any info? I have to say that I loved the 'old Hero', the new one, not so much.

It is nice to be one of the only foreigners to be using the massage places. They love to get a LINE and a booking from me and their guys are cute. Here are two of my new finds: https://www.gayguides.com/forums/topic/13144-loving-the-boys-at-ogasms-spa/ https://www.gayguides.com/forums/topic/13325-kk-massage-bangkok/

We have seen a lot of changes in gay Bangkok and throughout gay Thailand. The scenes have changes, the apps changed the way we find guys, massage venues have changed and the cities have changed. Now, looking forward 10 years, what do you see in 2030?

  8. Covid has opened up some sweet deals on amazing new condos. I'm getting a new one. But, I need a local moving company to pack up everything and move locally. Any suggestions?

This post is a bit of a self-indulgence, reflecting the fact that I am missing travel to Thailand. It has no current information, which will be obvious from ".. I am missing travel to Thailand" You have been warned. Somehow, when I book a trip it gets put on the calendar but cancelation of the trip does not remove it. Recently my calendar has been greeting me each morning with announcements to check-in to flights I will not be taking and hotels that no longer expect my arrival. It’s rubbing salt into the wound of not seeing Bangkok Guy for a very long time. Although Covid has closed his market he remains cheerful as he shows me his cu…

I have not picked up individual hustlers since my days at the old Malaysia Hotel. Are the boys still available and where? I have availed myself of Romeo to accomplish this.

I have just finished Bangkok Boy Bar by Richard Vohl and Private Dancer by Stephen Leather. Both great reads and highly recommended, though the former is slightly romanticised and ascribes a far greater conversational depth to young bar boys than I know they are capable of, particularly those newly from the countryside without much English. Any other recommendations to while away long weekends? Non-fiction guides also welcome - I was inspired to ask by paborn’s mention of guide books to Bangkok’s early 80s gay scene in another thread.

DISCLAIMER -- The following should be considered the requirements that are current as of this moment only and always subject to change at any succeeding moment. From The Nation The Immigration Bureau has urged people to make an online queue for visa extension due to the virus and apply before January 29. Applicants who require visa service, such as foreigners who have stayed in the Kingdom for over 90 days and tourists who needs short-term visa extension service for Tourist visa (TR 60) and Special Tourist Visa (STV) are urged to join the online queue before the service date. The move is aimed at conforming with the government's policy on precautionary meas…

Edit: The article I linked to has been edited shortly after writing this post, with new references to officials backtracking on plans to require covid tests for visa extensions. The original version confirmed tests would be needed. My original post written before the update to the article is below. So the comments only apply if they push ahead with the measure: As mentioned yesterday, covid tests will aparently be required for visa extensions from next week. I presume even for farang residing in provinces with no covid cases ? 1 A nice little revenue earner for the testing. 2 If it is like ASQ, then anyone who fails the test or has an inconclusive …

We're back to the pollution season in Thailand (see image). There's an interesting article in the Bangkok Post blaming burning of sugar crops for some of the pollution. Essentially, farmers won't pay for mechanical harvesting and burning the crops to eliminate excess foliage reduces the labour requirement for manual harvesting. That seems easy to fix, if they ban burning of sugar crops, ban sugar factories from accepting burnt sugar and possibly even subsidize mechanical harvesting. Accepting this pollution for sugar production is of course perverse, as sugar is one of the least healthy foods that is commonly consumed. The human race would be much better…

Sorry we were down for a bit. Tried to merge the two forums but the other site has over 250,000 posts and over 1 million images. Still working on a solution.

I am now coming to the conclusion that Thai regulations are similar to market prices. You go to a market to buy something and there is no price on any of the goods. You make an offer, there is a counter offer, and another, and so it continues. Haggling. After all this Covid nonsense I’m sure the same applies...it being Thailand. One office invents a rule...it’s haggled by another..and another..and so it goes on. Eventually it reaches the Big Boss who makes a decision, overruling all the Hagglers. Numerous examples now exist: All restaurants closed New Years Eve.... All restaurants closed, except takeaway...nobody allowed in from the UK...All vis…

Life is often funny in how it throws curve balls at you. I have not owned or ran this site in many years. However, I have remained friends with the owners the entire time. The site has switched owners a few times over the years and I have always tried to stay active in the forum and help moderate the site when I could. Recently, the owner approached me and said that his time with the site was over and he was ready to move on. He was not sure what he was going to do with the site and asked for ideas. I did not want the content here to die so I told him I would take the content and incorporate it into a new site. This allows him to sell the domain name gaythailand.c…

From Bangkok Post Tour firm exits peak last month The pandemic continues to ravage tourism operators as the number of tour companies withdrawing their licences reached its peak in December, while 65-70% of outbound agents closed indefinitely amid the tight border restrictions. Around 10% of outbound operators gave up their licences with the Tourism Department, particularly after the resurgent virus hit local communities on Dec 15, said Suthiphong Pheunphiphop, president of the Thai Travel Agents Association (TTAA). According to the Tourism Department, 2,598 tour operators quit the market permanently last year by returning their licences in order to get…

I got a 30 day extension to my 60 day tourist visa at the Jomtien Immigration Office. That's 30 extra days, from the expiry date, not the date of application. Such mundane things are rarely discussed here, but if anyone wants to make up for deprivation in 2020 with a longer stay on the next trip, here are details: Process 1 Collect forms. As they were closing for lunch, I went off and filled in the application form in a coffee shop (black coffee, no sugar). I ignored the other form for my landlord to confirm where I live. 2 Return to office some time after 13:00. I was given a queue no for the accommodation registration part, in the office to the…
