Where else are you going besides Brasil.....if you only had a week, I'd still do both. August is winter in Rio, not as busy as other months, a lot of the "talent" goes to Sao Paulo or stay in SP and don't go to Rio....but like buttercawan said, you can still do touristy things, and there are guys in Rio, just not the selection as in warmer months. so at least 3 days in SP and make sure the days line up to be the good ones in the saunas in both cities.... Rio= Mon 202, Tues 117, Wed 202....SP= Lagoa Thurs, Fri, Sat 

Sauna days are dependent on the weather, when it rains, is usually shitty...if they do something like Bingo or free food could be busy. If there's a party or event in town could be slow, the guys priorities is party over work.

We hang out, drink, play sex games and fuck like crazy...no off fees, sauna entrance fees, blah, blah blah......only pain in the ass is registering them at the front desk, but it's worth it for safety, especially the 1st time meeting someone.

Change of plans....I got hooked on Colombia webcam sites....going to Bogota and Medellin with  1 night in Panama on my way to the US. Got a one way ticket on Copa from Medellin to Panama, overnight then Panama to Boston for $205 usd.....cheaper flights for me to take this trip than to go to the US from Mexico directly 😲

@Young11  Yes. Chapigay is literally how the locals refer to the neighbourhood. Chapigay colloquially is the barrio within Chapinero where all of the gay saunas, bars, discos and restaurants can be found.
Chapinero barrio is everything between Calle 72 (to the north) to Calle 26 (south), and  between Calle 1 (above in the the hills) to Avenida Cra 30 which is technically the main North - South transportation conduit in the city (and where the new metro line is being built).
Chapigay zona is a much more condensed. You can focus on the area between Calle 66 in the north to Calle 58 Bis (precisely the street entrance to Theatrón) in the south. Everything is located between Carrera 13 and Carrera 7 to the West and East respectively. 
So if you book something within walking distance to these locators, you will be just fine. To be fair, there are other places outside of this neighbourhood, but this should be enough to keep you busy for a first tour.

Sounds fairly  typical.  I find that Thai are now much worse than in the glory days 40 years ago. They took a very long time to put in decent business class seats, and ordered every conceivable type of aircraft, brown envelopes etc.  It was very sad, last year  to see 8 777s, and 6 A380s, lined up at Swampy, derelict, with paint peeling off. What a crazy place to mothball aircraft!

I have been to Salvador once in 2022. I went to both saunas with GP, and would say keep you expectations low.
I did not find any GP above 8/10, most are 6/7. 
I did see some hottest men I have ever seen in the beach though, but alas, guys working as GP are too ordinary looking 

It's a challenge some times--but in the end people actually care less than you think they do. As gay men without family ties we have a lot more freedom to travel than a lot of our straight co-workers. A number of them live vicariously through our travels--hence the questions.
I'll admit it would be hard to say month after month I'm going back to Thailand or Brazil(weren't you just there last month?"),  but at the end of your life when your co-workers are nowhere to be found it's important you pursued the things that made your life happy and not lived your life for them.  I'm fortunate in the case of Brazil I practice a sport (kitesurfing) that has world class conditions on the northeast coast so I have a good reason to go there frequently. I always include a stop in Rio or Sao Paulo for a few days "to break up the trip."
In the end you'll find your own way to answer(or deflect) their questions but you should pursue your life without guilt or shame and enjoy!

My recollection in January was that it was 800 baht if you offed boy from outside, but only 500 baht inside if you bought a drink, although they were over 200 baht so not much in it! hahaha.
