If we are talking Nice Boys at Sunee, then that is one of my absolute favourite bars, and how I miss the place stuck here in England.
I have an ex-Pat friend who still visit most weeks and it seems to be ticking-over during the pandemic which is far better than most bars are faring at the moment.
Mostly straight boys, mostly handsome, and almost all too willing to show you all they have on offer while they are on stage.
Call them off-stage for a drink and you can examine their 'goods' yourself, HJs, even BJs available in the bar; mutual if you want most times. 20 baht for a very quick fondle, 100 baht for a more leisurely stroke, and 300 baht if they cum - not set prices, but what I usually give.
300 baht in the wooden bin and the mamasan bangs it on the table as a signal for a cum-contest on stage - the first lad to cum (and they come off stage to show you) gets the 'prize'.
Barfines reasonable, and drink prices far lower than Boyztown for example.  A fun, debauched, happy place!
One or two of the boys have become regulars to my room, either just with me or with my long-time.
Since the closure of Good Boys and Eros Bar in Sunee itself, there are few others such places still operating anywhere in Pattaya. Please god it survives in business until I am next able to visit once again.

I enjoyed Niceboys last Friday as I was visiting a friend for Merry Christmas. They had a nice slew of boys on stage and everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, was in clear view. The place was friendly and no smoking. But, it was slow with customers. I really enjoyed it!

Finnseventy reacted to daydreamer in Koh Chang
I have just returned home from a one month vacation in Thailand.  I decided this time to plan a side trip to Koh Chang.  Here is a brief report of my recent adventure.
After spending a week in Bangkok, I stayed in Pattaya for ten days, so I was ready to hit the road for a break.  In Pattaya I rented a car for the trip to Koh Chang.  I have rented vehicles many times in Thailand, because I like the freedom driving a car gives me.
I took a boy from a Pattaya bar with me, he was eager to travel with me.  It was a good break for him to get away from the bar for a few days, while still making a guaranteed long time tip each day.  I have always paid any boy traveling with me the going rate for long time tip daily, and of course I paid for all expenses.  I always let them know if they want free time away from me, they can have it, but I have found they usually want to stick with me every day.  When I ask them what they would like to do, the usual response is the ubiquitous "up to you".   Believe me, if you have planned something a boy thinks is boring, or not fun for them, they won't be shy to tell you.
Total travel time from Pattaya to Koh Chang was about 6 hours, including the ferry ride.  The first part of the trip was from Pattaya to Laem Gnop in Trat province, that's where the ferries depart for Koh Chang.  The drive was about 4.5 hours, very enjoyable,  going through Sattahip, Rayong, and Chantaburi.  As you can see in this photo, Koh Chang is very close to the Cambodian border.

Because Koh Chang is a very large island, I wanted to take the rental car on the ferry to use to get around and explore the island.  The ferries run frequently.  Tickets are 80 baht for each passenger, and 120 baht to take a car.  The ride takes about 40 minutes.  After driving aboard, all passengers go up to the second deck lounge for the transit to the island.  There are snacks and drinks available on the second deck from a small store and a coffee stand.

I had made a reservation for Seabreeze Bungalows in Kai Bae Beach for five nights.  I chose the deluxe bungalow, and it was 1,850 baht per night, including all taxes and fees.  Not a bad deal for a good room on an island in January during high season.  This price was locked in long before the current coronavirus was news.
Upon landing on Koh Chang, it took about 20 minutes to reach the bungalow, driving south along several beaches on the way.  The further south from the ferry pier, the more rustic the small villages along the beaches are.  White Sands Beach is the first beach coming from the ferry.  It is the largest beach, and the most developed on the island, something I wanted to avoid.
After leaving White Sands Beach, the road begins to narrow, and the atmosphere becomes much more tranquil, with less development, and fewer people.  I decided since Kai Bae Beach was located in between White Sands beach and Lonely Beach, it would be a good location to stay.  Lonely Beach is the most popular beach with backpackers, and is known for very loud parties every night at different bars that go till dawn.  Kai Bae turned out to be a good choice, a very relaxed area, but with a good assortment of small restaurants and bars.  There was a Filipino band that played every night at the open air bar and restaurant at the Seabreeze Bungalows where we stayed.
This is the bungalow where we stayed.

This is the main road running through Kai Bae Beach.

If you travel without a car, there are songtaews, making it very easy to get around the island.  They charge a fixed rate based on how many beaches you pass.  The songtaews meet the ferries, and they strap any large bags on the roof for transport to your hotel.

One day we rented kayaks, and paddled about 20 minutes to an uninhabited island offshore from Kai Bae beach.  When I first mentioned this, the boy I was with thought that sounded like fun.  It included getting up early to rent the kayaks and be on the water by 9 am.  I have heard many people say that it's impossible to drag a bar boy out of bed early, but if there's something they want to do, they'll make sure to be ready.
There are several waterfalls, and we had planned to hike up to one, but figured since it is dry season with little rain that there wouldn't be anything to see.  Each day we went to a different part of the island to explore using the rental car.  One day I bought us masks and snorkels.  The boy I was with said he liked snorkeling, as he had never done it before.  He told me afterwards it was good, but he didn't get to see any fish.
There are a few 7-Eleven stores on the island, and a small Big C, and a small Makro.  Another reason I chose the Seabreeze Bungalows is it was only a short walk to a 7-Eleven store, very convenient to buy snacks and drinks.  Most motorbikes buy their gasoline from stands selling it in used liquor bottles as you still see in some areas of rural Thailand and other parts of Southeast Asia.
There are many small restaurants, and unlike Phuket, the prices for food were reasonable, about the same as on the mainland.
The air quality on the island was great until late every night when a local resident decided it was a good idea to set large piles of leaves on fire, letting them smolder all night.
There was an elephant camp just steps from the bungalows, and every afternoon, the mahouts would take the juvenile elephants down to Kai Bae Beach to swim and allow tourists to swim with them and take photos.  The salt water didn't bother the elephants, as they were having fun spraying the tourists with water from their trunks.

Koh Chang was a good break after being in Bangkok and Pattaya.  Five days was a good getaway.   It's a place I had wanted to see for some time.  It's well worth the taking the time to travel there.

This is an anonymous public forum so its inevitable that subscribers will both react and over react to posts. It can be daunting when people react with anonymous hostility but that's the game we're in here.
But to the OP I would say thank you for your report, I see you had permission from the guy to publish his photo so fair enough. I would suggest in future you angle your camera downwards or, better still, take him from behind.

I agree with your sentiment. And, it would be nice if all comments were polite and kind. However, that is also not the real world. I was in a shop last week and someone called me fat. My feelings could have been hurt (but they weren't as I have stayed in Thailand too long) but I knew that was an option when I tried to buy clothes.
I love trip reports and I know some get upset with what one person posts or how the post or what they say or show. I am just glad they are contributing and hope others will do the same. Having posted for many years I was berated a few hundred times for posting too much information and talking about expensive hotels, tips, etc.  Over the years I just gloss over what I post and try not to tell people how much I tip or pay for hotels. However, I always know that some will be upset with whatever direction I take. And, I am OK with taking the criticism for the good of the community. Sure, it would be nice if everyone loved me, or at least liked me, or even ignored what I post they don't like. But, that doesn't happen in real life or on message boards.

I was a bit sick this week and went to hospital as I was dehydrated. I got 2 bags of fluids and meds and saw doctors and had test run. The bill at the end was less than 2k baht. That is just insane. Back in the USA, a trip to the emergency room would be well over 4k USD. This is the place I want to get sick in. Plus, I think I have a date with the nurse.

I feel really bad reading this thread - I have never paid such high tips! In a massage shop in pattaya I usually pay 300 for massage and tip 400 - 500 if it ends happily.
For an in-room massage I typically pay 500 if it ends happily and up to 1000 if he takes me up where we belong.
    My bad.

I'm in the process of having some shirts and a jacket made by this tailor in Jomtien. I had shirts made on a previous visit and I was very happy with the quality and the fit.
I am getting some heavy cotton shirts for 850 bath and some light ones for 750 baht, all long-sleeved. The jacket will cost 2,800 baht.
He has a reputation for being a bit more expensive than some others in Pattaya, however the price is just a fraction of what it would be at home and he's very conveniently located if you are staying in Jomtien.
I agree with ggobkk that it is hard to bargain with the owner, Mr Singh?, due to his exceptionally straitened circumstances, the expense of running a business, pressure from suppliers etc. However you should still be able to get at least 10% off.
The shop is called Siam Next Fashion. It is right beside the entrance to the Jomtien Complex at 413/30-31 Tappraya Rd.

I've misplaced the name, but  walking out of The Poseidon, turn left to the main road, then turn right and next to the open air restaurant and the massage parlor, there is a tailor shop.  Usually there are some interesting shirts on a display rack outside.  Over the years, I've had shirts made, bought some of the display shirts, and had a very nice sport jacket made up.  I'm very happy with my purchases and have had a compliment or two.  Know what you want, bargain, the owner will plead poverty, once a price is agreed, all that goes away.  Be VERY specific about when you want the clothes to be ready.  Sorry, I can't recall the name but I can recommend the shop.
Numazu has a tailor near TukCom, he may have referenced the name in one of his reports.  He was always happy with the results.  I mention this as he and I both use Excelsior in Bangkok.

This has been a very interesting topic to follow.
But getting back to the OP - if people are going bareback on the basis of being "safe" because they're on PrEP, then what's to stop someone just saying they're on Prep in order to persuade their sex partner that it's safe to have unprotected sex with them?
This puts the partner in a dilemma - is it safe or not?
This use of PrEP could lead to more unprotected sex and consequently more infection by HIV if it becomes the norm for guys to agree to go bareback just because someone says they're on PrEP, when in reality they may not be.
There is a lot of unprotected sex going on in Thailand. A guy I was with in August told me the four previous times he had sex were with other Thais and they all insisted on going bareback. Food for thought.

    Thanks for that CurtisD.
I have a question about your use of cumulative risk to determine the probability of transmission.
If I flip a coin the chance of it being heads is 50%.
If I flip 100 coins and then flip another the chance of it being heads is still 50%. The results of the previous coin tosses do not affect the probability of the outcome of a new coin toss.
Therefore if the risk of PrEP failing in one encounter is 8%, as you say, then why would it be any greater for subsequent encounters?

    Finnseventy, Spoon has it right.

It is the difference between the probability of a single event and the probability of a sequence of events. They are very different things and the fact that people don't get this difference helps casinos, who often show the results of the last several spins of the roulette wheel in the hope that people seeing three Red in a row will be encouraged to bet big on Black thinking it must be more likely. Well, while the probability of four Red in a row is small, you are not betting on four-red-in-a-row, you are betting on Red in the next spin, which is still 50% (less a little for 0 and 00 depending on the quality of casino at which you play).

In discussing PrEP we are making a bet on both the current and the long term probability. We are betting on PrEP not failing us in both the current encounter (92% chance) and in all our encounters, the probability of which is 92%-to-the-power-of-n where n is the number of encounters.

If you tossed a coin 100 times and they were all heads, then (I) yes, the probability of a head in the next toss is still 50% but (ii) the probability of 100 heads in a row is so small that you would have a crowd around you. You would be in the Guinness Book of World Records Think about it, if you got 10 heads in a row you would think it was pretty special, let alone 100!

I looked for the record number of heads-in-a-row on line and could not find anything, although apparently the record straight run of Red on the Roulette Wheel in Monte Carlo is somewhere in the 30s, which suggests the record run of heads may be around there too.

Tom Stoppard's play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead has Guildenstern flipping a coin while Rosencrantz calls 'heads'. Eventually they get to 92-heads-in-a-row with Guildenstern increasingly concerned and Rosencrantz's money pouch bulging.  Someone in a blog has asked how likely this is.  Quoting the blog:

It is indeed very unlikely to throw 92 heads in a row – perhaps even more unlikely than you might guess at first.  Assuming that the probability of any one coin landing heads is 0.5, and that the coin throws are mutually independent of one another, the probability of 92 coins landing heads in a row is equal to 0.5-to-the-power-of-92 – that is, 0.5 x 0.5 x 0.5 x 0.5 ... 92 times.  And that is a very small number – approximately 0.0000000000000000000000000002 or 1 in 5000 trillion trillion.  This figure is too small to even properly get one’s head around.  This is (much) less than the chance of two people being asked to randomly choose a single grain of sand from anywhere on the Earth and happening to choose exactly the same one.

Its simple. Its about statistic and probability. So we are talking about sample size. Using coin toss as example isnt a good idea since success and fail has the same exact odds.

Let me use another example to explain the logic. Throwing a die, you got 1/6 odds to get one number. If success criteria is u getting number 6, then your odds for 1 event is 1/6, and failure is getting any other number, and the odds Is 5/6. Now if u have 100 number of events, meaning u throw the die 100 times, and success criteria is for you to get number 6 at least once, then this is where cumulative probability comes in. To put it simply, you have much higher chance of getting 6 one time the more number of tries you are given.

Now to put back into perspective without going into the math, success criteria is getting infected by HIV at least once. Odds is 8% for 1 event. If u have 100 tries (sex encounters) odds that u get infected at least once, will be higher the more tries u have. Sadly, the reality is, it only take one time for you to get the virus and u are with the virus for life. Its a reminder for me and for all of us here that probability is just that, probability. It does means u can still get infected the first time u try but it can also mean you will never get infected at all even if u never where condom nor take prep. It is calculated based on historical data or experimetal data, and its just a way to emphasize the likelihood of one getting infected.

Now if u think luck is always with you, i cant stop you, but know that for 30% thai guys, the luck isnt with them, so good luck to any of you who think prep is enough protection.
