my opinion is it’s  a good night if you find someone you like! I have been to saunas with 10 working guys and found 2 i like and been to saunas with 35 guys and didn’t find anyone i really wanted! BUT..if you have zero naked guys in your room then a sauna on a bad night is better then your hotel room! 
Mondays and Wednesdays are the best nights at pointe202,  Tuesdays, fridays at 117, the rest of the nights are hit or miss but again better then a empty hotel room!  

This year 2021 marks 20 years of going to Brazil, usually 4 times a year, sometimes 5.  I wanted to write about some of the friends i have made. this is about “boys”  i have met that are now men in successful careers!  i have stayed in touch with them .
1) A.F. was a guy who at 19 ended up in Rio from the small town a 100 miles from São Paulo.  He is gay and became the boyfriend of one of the sauna owners and a year after that ended, worked in the sauna as a “boy” for about a year and then moved to Paris to be a gogo boy with 2 other sauna guys.  about a year after arriving in Paris he could speak conversational French and enrolled in college and 1 year ago graduated  with a accounting degree, and looks physically like a beautiful muscle god!
2) in 2013 the manager of Mezziniu sauna in Porto Alegre approached me and asked if i would be interested in a friend of his that was Not a sauna guy but needed to make some extra money that weekend?  i told him no that usually guys doing it the first tine are not that good or that much fun! then he said why don’t you just talk to him? He is sitting at the bar in street clothes! He was handsome 21 and attending law school the following year! i saw him every trip i made to Porto Alegre! He became a lawyer 2 years ago, i saw him last a year ago, i remember it well because we were drinking and we had sex 4 times that night, the most ever with one guy in one night! 
3) 12 years ago i was in Rio and met who i thought was one of the most handsome guys i had met, he was in his early 20’s and told me he was in college and going to go to med school. It turns out he didn’t go to med school but Dental school and is now a dentist in Rio! Dentists are allowed to give Botox in  Brazil and when i was there 3 weeks ago he did a session on me and i have to say he did a great job!
I met what was and still is one f the nicest guys ever! a year later he joined the French Foreign legion. At the time he was already a black belt in Brazilian JuJitsu and has been living in the FFL base in Corsica and traveling the world with them! he messaged me yesterday messages me that he has put his 4 years in and is getting out finishing his degree in 1-1/2 years and opening a Brazilian JuJitsu school in France!  He is going to a international competition in Mexico next year!

Going to throw my 2 cents into the pot..and since this is posted to the Latin America forum, may I suggest that the best cities in Latin American to meet local boys in the local bars/clubs (not sex adjacent) are:
- Havana, Cuba (they are always looking for foreigners, especially to pay for a night out that might cost you a whopping $15 total)
- Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (healthy gay scene around El Conde and the local boys love to dance and fuck til late. Just be prepared to pay)
- Bogota, Colombia (Chapi-gay lives up to its name, there are always boys looking for something exotic -- meaning your white ass because you are not local)
- Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (see Santo Domingo, same rules apply)

This is where it is good do you have friends in high places!!  i took my Corona CPR test Friday at the clinic in Copa, and they assured me i would have the results so i could fly back to the states Sunday night! at 11:30am on Saturday morning No results in my email. one reason i picked this clinic is because of its reputation and its profile says it is open 24/7 7 days a week! when i called there i got a voice recorder, so i decided to take a uber and get my results rather then depending on email, i got there at at 2:00 and they are closed! i wasn’t panicking yet as i wasn’t leaving Rio for SP until 3:00pm Sunday but that was just 24 hours away! i tried every number i had for them including a fax but no one responded! Now it is this morning and i drive their again and same result!  So i did something i rarely do and called my friend of 20 years Luis, wgmho was the first guy i met in Rio 20 years ago! he was the former BF of Junior at Pointe and most importantly a federal district attorney for the state of Rio de janeiro! Long story short... it took Luis 5 minutes to have my paperwork emailed to me! We had just gone out to a amazing restaurant in Leme two nights ago before all this happened!
So i am flying to SP and going to stop in at Lagoa for 2 hours before catching my flight home!  As a side note i went to Pointe last night for 2 hours before heading out to dinner with friends and while there were only about a dozen guys there, there was a new guy that was absolutely stunning! we talked for only about 10

I got to São Paulo last friday! i couldn’t get the place i usually stay at but found another single family home in the same area which i really like for the many restaurants in the neighborhood as well as the upscale area it is.  very close to CGH airport. as well.

I too did quarantine in December last year. It was really very, very little different to what is required now. One extra test maybe. No biggy.
I did the full 14 days, starting with day 0, and not released until day 14 was complete. So really 16 days.
The rules  changed half way through...not allowed in the exercise gym...because I was British. Not allowed to swim, just sit by the pool. Not nice with all the kids running around, so with the no exercise rule I spent the whole time in my room, except for one visit to the pool and one to the exercise yard. 
I got a lot of jip from some people on the boards for even bothering to come at all to Thailand, but at the time everything was open. So it was worth it. And I enjoyed my 4 month stay.
I have to say now, with everything closed, I wouldn’t bother. But when things are open again of course I will return...for an extended stay of course (minimum 3 months).
 

Gee whiz - Let's see - unable to leave your quarantine room for 14 days (even prisoners often get 1 hour per day outside), having to clean your room yourself, having to change the bedding yourself, having to eat in your room, and then when released you still can't eat in a restaurant, the bars and all entertainment venues are closed, stores and shopping malls are open under restricted hours, you can't stop in anywhere for a cup of coffee unless you take it away, there's nowhere to go to have a nice breakfast, you can't enjoy a glass of wine with your dinner unless you buy a bottle of wine in a shop and eat and drink in your hotel room, if you are not wearing your face mask every time you set foot outside your room you are subject to a 20,000 baht fine, you can't swim in your hotel's pool because the pools are all closed, it is difficult to travel out of the province where you are staying and then return, you can't visit any museums or historical sites, everything closes by 9:00pm - and some even earlier.
Other than that, what's the problem . . . ?

Great topic!  I often think about retirement or semi retirement in next 10 years.  5 years ago I was thinking I'd like to spend 3-6 months in Bangkok each year with London as base.  Now Thailand not so cheap and air quality not good but good health services.  Last few years I have focused travels in Brazil and the sauna scene so would love to semi retire in Rio or Sao Paulo, especially now with Pound against Real but concerns about safety as full time resident (never experienced any danger as tourist though).  I generally stay in airbnb but like others said renting apartment and possibly sharing sounds like a great idea.  Has anyone retired and obtained some sort of retirement visa in Brazil?  I wonder how much you would spend on rent boys and how often we would visit saunas if a full time resident!

Thanks to some investments in crypto currencies, I am in the position to consider an early retirement and I am thinking of spending a good portion of my time in Brazil.  This idea has me wondering if there is any advice from others in the Gay community on Retiring in Brazil?  I have not decided if I plan to spend most of my days in Brazil or spend it hopping around the world from country to country every 3 months?  Something like 3 months in Thailand, 3 months in Brazil, 3 months in Vietnam & Cambodia and 3 months in the USA...  
At this point I am simply exploring my options and wondering out loud what I should do before I put a serious plan together.  
I know it may seem like I am rushing things and a month ago I would not even think about it retirement for another 5 years or so but after watching my investment grow and one of my investment buddies just announce his retirement today....  It has me wondering what I am waiting for?  I don't like to take risks and I know I could lose half my investments and still be ok.  I would not even need to touch my investments for 2 or 3 years from the un-invested savings I have.  Still, I am worried about the unknown,  but I think I just want to be sure I am ready and besides, the best time to enjoy life is NOW.... Right?
Well, right now, besides all that stuff from above, I am trying to figure out my monthly Budget as well as my housing budget.  If I can get a better deal on a 4 month lease in a building and it works out that I can get a Visa that works well related to the lease then I would bend to that advantage and go with the flow...
I plan to keep my house here in the USA. I am not sure if I will lock it down while I am away or if I will allow a friend to live in it for me and just pay the utilities they use and maintain the place so that I will have a place to come back to when I am in the USA for my short stay.  I may even keep my car... But that may change.
At this point, I am too young to touch my 401K and there won't be any Social Security coming my way till I am at least 62 and I would have to consider getting my own medical insurance.
All that being said...  For those of you who have quit your jobs and retired to Brazil, what advice do you have?
 
 
 

having read so many reports and experiences on the forum, I decided it was time to share some of mine.
my last trip was in January 2020 prior to the Covid situation 
staying at the Nile Ritz Carlton, which is not as fun in terms of local guys as it once was. Christmas in Rio: Make Your Own Family
Christmas is for family, New Year’s is for friends.  That’s the mantra I’ve always heard in South America whenever I go here during the holidays. It’s a good thing to remember, especially if you find yourself in Colombia one Christmas night, wondering why the bars and strip clubs are closed, and can’t seem to pin down your usual boy to hang out with you because he is with his family. It is after all, a Christian holiday.  This is probably why I’ve always thought that Thailand was a better place to spend this holiday at. Out there, they still have all the decor and cheer associated with the holiday, without the usual familial traditions behind it.
If you are a gay boy who is not ready to talk about your life to your hetero family, spending any family gathering with them, never mind Christmas dinner, can be quite awkward. That is what a particular boy, Kleyton, is currently going through. He is a cute young-looking 22 year old college student. I met him in the sauna Lagoa in Sao Paulo last year in between visits with the new boyfriend. He seems at first very unassuming at the sauna, just blending with the other more boy-next-door types. At 5 PM we head back to the apartment to freshen up and head to 202, since it was Wednesday, and it is supposed to be the Copacabana sauna's busiest day. And it turns out that it was, as we get to the sauna to a packed standing room crowd.

It was Kleyton’s first time in any Rio sauna, so as we check in and make our way into the premises, I give him the rundown of the place - where client lockers and boys lockers were, seating and stage at the primary floor, suites in the intermediate floor, and smoking area and sauna the top floor.  I even lent him my luggage lock and key to use at the 202 lockers, as they ask the boys to bring their own padlocks, or rent one for 10 reais. I leave him by the boy’s locker room and tell him I’ll be around, and if he needed a drink or a snack, come looking for me.

And pretty soon some boys came and pass me to gage my interest in them.
Maybe because I was with Kleyton now, but I was interested in the younger guys tonight. And there were some nice choices. I find a very cute branquinho who was tall and could pass as white back home. An Uber ride later, we get to Ipanema. We get some chairs from the vendor at the gay part of the beach. After 5 minutes, Adriano, the ex, appeared. He was indeed gorgeous, probably the epitome of a white muscle twink. He was shorter than Kleyton at 5’8. He shakes my hand, and then leans over to kiss my cheek. He hugs Kleyton, and they kiss on the lips. He gets a chair from the vendor and sits by my side, away from Kleyton.
The sun was out, and the gays were equally out as well. Adriano was pretty chill so far, and the self-centered boy that Kleyton described has not appeared. The boys chugged beers and talked and laughed, and Adriano described his life in Rio. Kleyton was relatively pretty quiet compared to Adriano, but he was kind of an introvert anyway. Adriano was the extrovert, and I can see how much trouble he could be if you let your guard down around him.

I ask Adriano if he was going to spend Christmas dinner with his family. He said he was not going to do that, because he said his family was crazy. I text Kleyton to ask him if he wanted to invite Adriano to dinner with us. He was OK with it. After the beach we tried the Christmas spread that Siquiera Grill was offering, and it was pretty good:

Adriano was pretty appreciative of the dinner. Kleyton then suggested that we have some Christmas drinks at one of the Copacabana kiosks that was open. We share a few beers and share a few more stories as we pass midnight, and that's when we give each other kisses and bid each other “Feliz Natal” as we commemorate another Christmas.

We all walk home, pretty buzzed from the beers at the kiosk.  At home we watch the series “Luna Nera” on Netflix. No threesomes. Just Christmas among friends. And that was fine with me, because its not like I am haven't been oversexed this trip anyway, and I was pretty buzzed from the alcohol, and I thought the Kleyton didn't want to cross that line again with the ex Adriano. As far as I know, none of mine are gay owned, but all are definitely gay-friendly.
There's a new restaurant on Soi Yen Akat (about 400 meters from the Malaysia Hotel) called Workshop. Intimate, mid-price but great food and service. At least one of the staff came from Zanotti in Soi Saldaeng. Portions may be on the smallish side if you are desperately hungry!
Il Bolognaise at the end of the short Sathorn Soi 7 (the Singapore Embassy is on the corner of Sathorn and Sathorn Soi 7). Been around quite a few years, excellent Italian food at reasonable prices.
Near the top end of the price scale, Eat Me off Soi Convent has consistently been wonderful for probably around 20 years. Great atmosphere, impeccable friendly service, Australian fusion menu, several wines by the glass selections - and fabulous desserts!
For a small coffee shop with a small menu of excellent food and again excellent service, Kush on Soi Nanglinchee has become a favourite. For breakfast or brunch, their scrambled eggs with melted cheese, bacon, salad and the largest and best croissant you will find in the city is superb. For Thai food, it takes a lot to beat Ruen Urai. This is set in a Thai House in the grounds of the Rose Hotel off Suriwong. This s nothing like the hotel itself. The quality is really excellent and the atmosphere almost unbeatable. However, always book ahead and ask to be seated on the ground floor. The upper floor is boring! Mid-price.
The only restaurant that I have ever found gay un-friendly was Indigo off the Silom end of Soi Convent. French cuisine, mid-price and patronised by many of the French community. The owner was a total homophobe who would rant about the gay Fan Club massage being just across the soi until it closed some years ago. I believe it is now run by his son, but after one of his rants 6 years or so ago, I vowed not to return.

I've found gyms in Bangkok expensive for day passes.  Not in Silom, but if you want an outing, I get the BTS Skytrain then walk to Muscle Factory Phrakanong, it's huge and cheap entry.lots of muscle guys to perv on and also have lots of healthy meals to buy:

You can still get STDs if you fuck bareback even if you're on P/REP. It only protects the user from HIV.

I've been a member for few years but one of those that never posted.  Now I have more spare time during lockdown in UK.  Also miss the Latin section!  I've been a regular to Bangkok for the last 13 years but the last few years my preference is Brazil.  Sex for me in Brazil doesn't compare, but also love the lifestyle, weather, food, coffee, caipirinha   Usually spend time n Rio, Sao Paulo and Salvador.  But would like to visit other cities in Brazil.  Last trip was Jan 2020, had planned to go for xmas but put on hold due to Covid, hoping March bit now thinking July.  

The vaccine is rolling out, Rio is mostly shut down. It's smart to wait. Why take the risk over the difference of a couple months.
