I've often wondered why the bars don't do some kind of advertising in China. Why don't they advertise on the gay websites? Even if a minute percentage took note and visited Pattaya, the gay bars would be overflowing with customers. Sunee would be back to its old self. New bars would open.
 
Then all it would need would be for these visitors to return to China and spread the word among the gay community.
 
It seems Chinese don't off boys. Good! More choices for us. But importantly, their custom would ensure the bars were profitable and keep them open.
 
But expecting Thai businesses to display any initiative is a forlorn hope. Christ, they can't even cooperate to stop small bars driving customers away with their over -the -top loud parties in the sois which last till the early hours in the morning.

That made me giggle. When have you ever seen ANY maintenance in the likes of Eros, Nice Boys, Goodboys, Kawaii etc., etc!!

All mamasans are Vile. Period.There are the very rare exceptions, but insignificant to change the overall perception.
 
Cupidol...there are two repugnant mamasans who work that place. They are going to ruin it in short order.
 
I go in there often, sometimes alone sometimes accompanied, and they probably know me. So I am left alone.
 
I can see that they recognise a newby from 30 miles out and work on the poor guy within micro seconds of him sitting down.
 
The only way to deal with these beasts is to tell them to fuck off. Whether you do this politely or not is neither here nor there.

People talk about having to buy Boy drink, buy Mamasan drink, pay many tips every time somebody looks at you. Has anybody ever been kick out of a bar because they don't buy somebody a drink?

Yes, just go and enjoy yourself.
 
From my limited observations, massage places such as the Prince and the old hero have a lot more Asian customers than Westerners.
And these Asian customers can be younger than others.

I think you will find absolutely no discrimination in the massage shops whatsoever.  I have often noticed that most of the other customers are Asian/SE Asian and younger - so actually you will be more in line with the typical customer.  (Possible exceptions - the Soi Twilight shops, which seem to get heavy farang foot traffic.)

I think you've hit the nail on the head with those 3 points, Firecat.
 
It's certainly true that these guys have received little, if any, advice on money matters. But I find that many of older guys who I associate with finally realise the importance of saving some money whenever they can. Some actually have plans for the future.
 
The guy I'm with in Pattaya saves his money, whereas his younger brother, who is 19, I think, spends everything on partying.
 
But can we blame him?

I used to eat breakfast at the Boat bakery now and then.
It is OK. You cannot expect fancy for 70 odd baht.
But I got turned off the place by the surly service.

It is always suspicious when someone brags about his "points" and what fantastic deals he gets with them.
 
Points don't grow on trees.  And membership privileges don't come without member's frequent expenditures.
 
To accumulate points one has to shell out a lot of money, and the points motivate the receivers to spend even more money. A person with a lot of points is a person who generously subsidizes the points givers...

I was at Nice Boys last night and can say that the boyz on stage do appreciate those tips. There was one boy with a gorgeous body who wasn't afraid to show it off to the customer for a good tip. Probably the same as reported by Myboby above. 
I did have fun there, much more fun than the bars in Boyztown.

I am not  a hypocrite, as one poster suggested, and have no problem with someone starting a thread which deals with bar closing, entertainment closings, etc. However the title of this post by Michael is The Nation Weeps Over His Majesty's Departure not about anything else. 

That may be easy or difficult. Often times one will sit next to you and strike up a conversation while other times you will be ignored. In Jomtien Complex/Pattaya it is often the case to be ignored once enticed to sit down and order a drink.
It pays not to be shy and initiate contact with one of the hosts who is of interest to you. 
 
Some host bars are more friendly than others, meaning they may have their hands on you!  I have seen some kissing sessions that were long and passionate.

I have had a drink at Funny Boys twice within the last week.
 
Both times, only 9 or 10 boys in the house.
And very few customers.

I'm a "don't shit on your doorstep" type. I don't proposition my 28yo cute co-worker or the cute guys working in the supermarket I buy my food. So I wouldn't do it to the staff of a hotel I'm staying at either.

The first responsibility of any falang in his (or her) dealings with young hotel staff is not to do anything that puts their employment in jeopardy.
I've been propositioned twice  by cute  hotel staff, in Bali and  in Luxor, Egypt. I've often wondered what would have happened had I responded but I'm always conscious of the dangers in terms of the employment and, in the case of Egypt, the law.

My experiences suggest that Thais are much more reluctant to ask questions about something.
Where I would not hesitate to ask.

I don't know if I am in a minority of one but I like neither of the above two guys.
Take the average of the two guys and you have my perfect man.
