July 29 is "Asanha Bucha Day," a major religious holiday in Thailand just before the beginning of Buddhist Lent. I understand that several Bangkok bars have announced they will be closed. I have not yet heard anything about the Pattaya bars, but I have a feeling they might be closed for at least one of those two nights. Anyway, I have not heard anything official as yet. Both Sunday and Monday, July 29 and 30, are public holidays, which means that all banks and government offices, including the Immigration office, will be closed. Everything will re-open on Tuesday. The measures are part of the Justice Ministry's proposed amendments to the Land Transportation Act which were approved by cabinet ministers on June 26. Wild West Bar and Crystal bar are now charging only 99 baht a drink up to 10 p.m. After 10 p.m. the price reverts to the original 150 baht a drink and you can watch the show. It is reported on Sawatdee that after 10 p.m. the price is 300 baht but this is in error. I was in Crystal bar this evening and I confirmed the prices with the Manager of both bars and double checked by asking the Mamasan, the boys and checking my modest bin. There were many handsome muscular guys there.

I was surprised to hear on the car radio that the Pattaya Gay Festival was taking place in August. It was just about the PGF dinner at Bruno's and then later a bit about the three divas at Cafe Royal. Details on the weekly report. The announcer was careful to point out that he, himself, was straight, and not gay, but that straights could go and they would make you welcome and everyone would have a good time.
