Chonburi is Pattaya's province. One of the more common complaints is selective enforcement, especially when it comes to bars and karaokes. Karaokes seem to be allowed to open virtually anywhere they want, including residential areas. Despite laws limiting music volume and laws regarding closing times, these places seem to get away with anything they want and few of them have any regard for people living nearby. I agree with the people complaining. A 24-year-old man was sentenced to death by the Pattaya Court yesterday for the murder of two Russian women on Jomtien beach in February. Anuchit Lamlert got the maximum punishment after the court decided not to cut his sentence on grounds the defendant confessed only because of the weight of evidence against him. The court said Anuchit's lengthy criminal record showed he had sought to benefit himself through brutal and lawless acts, with no regard for social peace and the country's tourism image. Yesterday, the PATTAYA TODAY newspaper published an article that basically says that as of October, applicants for the retirement visa, whether new applicants or people renewing, who use a proof-of-income statement from their embassies, will be required to obtain a confirmation stamp from the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. While this would be inconvenient, it probably wouldn't be much of a problem unless you would have to travel a long distance to Bangkok from wherever you reside in Thailand. Police Colonel Sutin, the Chief of Pattaya Police was one of many officers to respond to a serious fire which had taken hold of a Karaoke Bar located in Soi Beokeow just after daybreak on Thursday. My first trip to Thailand was a great experience for me. I have been reading the gaythailand.com and sawatdee forums for about 3 months before my trip. Both sites had useful information that helped me in making many decisions for my itinerary. Sometimes these crimes, usually some sort of a shakedown, are committed by people impersonating the volunteers, but just as often it turns out to be the legitimately trained volunteers themselves.
