I have always thought that that is a kind of cancer. It has damaged the work ethic when, from the boys' perspective, earnings are not dependent on having to work for the money.

Dont you have any investements at the stock market, an aparment you rent out or anything like that where you don't have to work for it?

  2. I like Bangkok Air too. The only problem I have with them is that they seem to have regular data breaches. Within a few years I was informed already twice about a data breach. The first one also included credit card data. The other one was just very recently.

Or maybe they are the only airline who report about data breaches and the other airlines don't ?

There were one or two others, but none named Green

Green is a legit masage place in Surawong road. It is (was?) my favorite msg place, but on my last visit I was less happy with the massage quality than usual ... something has changed.

My barber, Rut, gave me as good a haircut as I have ever had, and he is quite easy on the eyes. He put on a face mask, which emphasized how beautiful  his eyes are. Maybe he gives massage too!

Do you mean Maruth? Yes he is nice and very chatty and his haircut is good.

The meta-analysis looked at various studies, some of them in tightly-controlled medical settings.

The meta analisis contains only 2 studies regarding the combo face masks + Covid, non of them in tightly controlled medical setting.

Non of the 2 used pm95 masks

I doubt men would wear condoms if their efficacy were around 30% (optimistically),

Thats ridiculous to compare 2 completely different situations! If condoms only had 30% efficacy and there are no better means, some people would wear them, some would stop having sex with strangers and some would continue like before.

On the other hand its difficult to stop using public transport and going to the doctor to avoid Covid, no? Also I cannot install  an air cleaner at the doctors place. So only thing an individual can do is wearing a mask and reduce the odds to get infected, if he wants.

Btw. only in rare circumstances I wear a mask nowadays. But not because of this study!

  5. The point is, if you go to villages in Pakistan and hand them out masks and tell them to wear them, and it turns out it is not effective, you cannot conclude that masks are not effective, you can at best conclude that going to the village and telling them to wear masks is not effective (no big suprise to me). I know there were other measurements too, that can make the result only less reliable regarding masks.

This study was part of the metaanalis you cited.

  6. How could they conclude that masks don't work, if that wasn't even the topic of the analisis???
The metaanalisis was about "mask wearing interventions".

For example one study from Bangladesh:
    https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abi9069

"We cross-randomized mask promotion strategies at the village and household level, including cloth versus surgical masks. All intervention arms received free masks, information on the importance of masking, role modeling by community leaders, and in-person reminders for 8 weeks. The control group did not receive any interventions."

"Mask-wearing and distancing were assessed through direct observation at least weekly at mosques, markets, the main entrance roads to villages, and tea stalls."

From this to "masks dont work" (for an individual wearing the mask properly) there is a very long way.

Mr. Unicorn, your selfies above are revealing. Just hope I don't find myself seated next to you on a future flight. 🙂

On the other hand, I have witnessed the popular "Vinapu tuck" several times, I can attest that the technique is completed with  great finesse.

First move: the note is deftly grasped between the index and ring fingers.

Second move: the middle finger is placed against the abdomen at level of waistband while the index and ring fingers simultaneously push outward.

Third move: with a smooth downward motion, the note is inserted until resistance is detected.

Fourth move: the note is released in a secret action yet to be fully disclosed by inventor.

Fifth move: fingers are withdrawn and placed immediately in pocket for later inspection.

(Full disclosure: this is an unofficial version and not approved by the inventor)

The tuck is customarily performed on males similar to those depicted below.

Is it really 100% tactile - no visual check of the goods?

  8. I will try one last time.

    From https://www.cochrane.org/news/statement-physical-interventions-interrupt-or-reduce-spread-respiratory-viruses-review

The Cochrane Review 'Physical interventions to interrupt or reduce the spread of respiratory viruses' was published in January 2023 and has been widely misinterpreted.

Karla Soares-Weiser, Editor-in-Chief of the Cochrane Library, has responded on behalf of Cochrane:

Many commentators have claimed that a recently-updated Cochrane Review shows that 'masks don't work', which is an inaccurate and misleading interpretation.

It would be accurate to say that the review examined whether interventions to promote mask wearing help to slow the spread of respiratory viruses, and that the results were inconclusive. Given the limitations in the primary evidence, the review is not able to address the question of whether mask-wearing itself reduces people's risk of contracting or spreading respiratory viruses

  9. Would be interesting to know where the bags were ... in the overhead compartment or under the seat.

On long haul flights I find it annoying to keep money passport etc. in the pockets or in some money belt ... last time I had it at the bottom of my backpack in the overhead compartment.

Don't they have cameras in airplanes?

  10. Authors' conclusions

    [...]

There is uncertainty about the effects of face masks. The low to moderate certainty of evidence means our confidence in the effect estimate is limited, and that the true effect may be different from the observed estimate of the effect.

    [...]

There is a need for large, well‐designed RCTs addressing the effectiveness of many of these interventions in multiple settings and populations, as well as the impact of adherence on effectiveness, especially in those most at risk of ARIs.
