Since I am still fairly new here in Thailand as a recent retiree - I would like to share with you my first Thailand New Year's Eve period to get your feedback.
Part ONE - New House Blessing
On 29 December and 30 December - a gay couple (Thai + Lao) that I know bought a new flat in the Life City Park over in Bo Win in Rayong. They can be seen in the below first photo - the one in the green t-shirt making the peace sign and his partner inside the house standing up and pointing.
The monks were coming to the home early on the 30th so they asked me to sleep there on the 29th to guarantee my presence. I still don't have a car or motorcycle and we checked BOLT and its dependability on big distances like this during the crowded holiday period would not guarantee my arrival in time.

So, on the night of the 29th about 30 of their friends and family stopped by or slept there ( 16 people slept in the actual house as they also came from far away ). They finished the food preparation for the next day and we celebrated by eating some of it for dinner on the floor on floor mats. At my age, it takes me some effort to sit like that as my body is now more rigid than when I was young.
Are you able to sit and eat like them on the floor ??

The food was really good and I ate some things that I NEVER have eaten before. They even warned me to NOT use the hot sauce but I insisted on trying it anyway - and yes I sweated after eating it.

Morning came and the 5 monks arrived and they sat in the living room on the floor on special mats that were delivered from the local Buddhist temple. My friends had to move out of the living and dining room areas all of their furniture. Conveniently, as this is a new housing complex, the house immediately next to them is vacant so they used that patio to put all of their furniture. While the monks were praying and blessing inside the house the most important people of the 40 in attendance were busy preparing the monk's meals in special silver ornate metal bowls - also delivered ahead of time from the local Buddhist temple.

The part that most amazed me was the "opening of the third eye" - like right out of a science fiction film - as we don't give much attention to our individual third eyes in our Western world. So, the designated Buddha statue is given to the main primary monk where he makes this statue "operational" by opening up its third eye with a special Buddhist blessing. I believe that the third eye is like an antennae to our higher spiritual being (or creator). While the monk was performing this exercise, the hairs on my arm stood up as I found it so moving. I need to discover more about our dormant Western third eye.

I believe that it is located in the center of your forehead above your nose.

Then the BIG event - the primary main monk got up on a chair above the main entrance of the house to paint / etch with a special golden pen a symbol that, according to my Thai friend, states that this house has been blessed and that evil is not welcome here. This process of etching and then placing seals on the etched insignia took quite a while and the gay couple had to stay on their knees for quite a while to support the chair that the monk was standing on to ensure his safety.

Lastly, the monks then went through each of the rooms sprinkling "holy" spiritual water ( it is probably sacrilegious to use the word holy to describe what I saw in the Buddhist religion ) and then they exited the house to sprinkle this religious water on each of us to bless us. They used a type of bamboo bundle of sticks to do it and I was told that the religious water is prepared back at the Buddhist temple.

This ends part one of my lead up to my Dec 2022 New Year's celebrations.
Part TWO - Condo holiday party etiquette
About a week ago the condo where I live solicited for donations to pay for a New Year's Day party for the staff (maintenance, security, gardeners, administration, etc.). What I found weird is that the notice was directed towards condo owners. So I felt excluded as I rent here. So I called the number and I spoke to the organizer and she told me - well we don't include renters - as our past experience is that renters don't want to make donations as they are not owners. I asked her if I could make a donation as I am made to feel VERY welcome here by all of the condo complex staff here. She was quite surprised that I even cared about the condo complex building staff - as she said that they even have difficulties in getting donations from the actual condo owners.

The condo staff offer a great service. For example, if I am having difficulties coming home from shopping they are right at the BOLT taxi to help me get into the elevator and up to my condo - you never have to ask them. If they see you coming for the elevator they hold the door open to make sure that you can enter. Two times that I needed maintenance in my condo - the maintenance team was at my condo within 1 to 2 hours after my request. Every day when I go in and out they are always smiling and saying hello.

We used to have this kind of concierge service in our large condo buildings in New York City in the 1970s and 1980s - before the ravages of self-service in the USA came and all of these types of normal services were either taken away as cost cutting measures or made to be very expensive for the select few who could afford them. Living here in a Jomtien condo building is a real treat - especially if you are a baby boomer who remembers the good old days.

Being in the holiday spirit, I decided to take a personal initiative where I would prepare and give each condo staff member a personal card from me saying how much I appreciated their professional service and as a new retiree here that they make me feel special, welcome, and belonging to a great condo complex. Firstly, I had to find money cards. These are easily found back in Europe and in the USA during the holiday season. I had great difficulties finding something equivalent. I traveled over to Pattaya city and walked around until in a Mr. DIY shop at the Pattaya Avenue complex I found ornate Chinese money cards ( as the Chinese New Year will arrive at the end of January ) that were perfect and super cheap. Then onto my home computer to write the perfect thank you message in English and then to translate it from English to Thai and then back from Thai back to English to see what could be tweaked to make sure that I deliver a correct and meaningful message. Then the printing of the messages in both English and Thai that would fit into the size of the small money card envelopes. Then the ironing of the baht bank notes that I collected so that they would feel crisp, clean, and new. And then the assembly of the complete package - illustrated in the below photo collage.


Before heading over to Bo Win for the above mentioned house blessing I went around lunch time downstairs to the main floor where the hive of activity is by our condo workers and I started to distribute them to everyone I could find. And when I could not find someone the staff were already calling them from their work duty station to come to the lobby to collect their holiday note gift. The smiles on their individual faces and kind words in their limited English - truly made my holiday the best!! In fact, one of the security guys - every time he sees me he taps his shirt pocket ( as he showed me that he stored my note in his pocket ) and says thank you - I will never forget you. Truly a blessing to live here as a new retiree.

Part THREE - New Year's Eve festivities

Around 10:30pm I headed over to the Jomtien Supertown Complex to join my 2 Thai friends at the massage shop where they work - they had already been drinking for quite a while and kept asking me when am I coming to join them. I wanted to start late as I was sure that I would suffer a hangover the next day. They were already dancing in front of their massage shop and I immediately joined in - and got about 20 minutes of dancing in.
We drank until 11:45pm when we headed over to Dongtan beach to watch the local fireworks and the massive launching of the flying lanterns - the sky was amazingly alit and the beach was full of happy people.

What was also amazing to note is that there was a dual firework show put on by Pattaya city with simultaneous fireworks on Koh Larn. From Dongtan beach we could see the fantastic (although distant) Koh Larn island fireworks. However, from Dongtan beach it was not possible to see the Pattaya city fireworks due to the curvature of the beach and Pratumnak hill. So we were truly immersed in 2 sets of fireworks and floating lanterns.

We hugged and kissed at the conclusion of the countdown and remained a little while to take in all of the amazing sights.

Then we walked back into the Jomtien Complex and walked through the main covered section which by now was heaving with a TON of people and there was a blockage in the main walkway as The Palace bar had constructed a dance floor that protruded out into the main walkway. You had to kind of climb over one of the edges of the dance floor to proceed to our destination, which was the Coqtale bar to say hello to our friend Paul and then to hopefully dance in the Double Shot bar.

At this end of the complex - near the Poseidon hotel/restaurant the complex had a reasonable noise level and we could truly talk with each other and hear each other. My fantasy to dance in the Double Shot bar was not going to happen as the Double Shot bar was kind of subdued in my opinion ( whereas, on other nights it was more energetic and there were some people dancing ) - so dancing was not on the menu tonight. The only dancing would be to return to the madness of The Palace and the loud noise so we just decided to remain at the Coqtale bar until closing time. Before I knew it, Paul (the bar manager) said to me, hey you need to go as we need to close the bar before the police come. I looked at my phone and it was already 2:30 in the morning. Wow!! the night flew by. So I said good by to everyone and then walked home - and woke up very late the next day with a hangover. Had I been able to dance - I am sure that by dancing I would have burned off some of the excess alcohol and I would have had less of a hangover.

He made an appointment, and didn't show. I waited to see if he messaged me for 1.5 hours. He didn't. I wrote to say he missed it. He said, sorry, he could come now. But, I was already busy and said another time. For 5k without bargaining, I would have showed.

A few updates: 
After letting go of my temporary boyfriend (the one I said I’d keep for a few days) I was a single man again.
 
Jomtien is quite disappointing. No bars where the boys are on stage and obviously for grabs.
I know the waters are for grabs, but I like the “obviousness” of the gogo bars compared to the waiters simply being kind of hot (or not so hot and very pushy).
So I went to Pattaya to the gogo bars. 

I arrived too early (6 pm) so I got a foot massage at paradise spa. The masseur (M) was very flirty and also really good.
Then it was still too early for boystown so I walked to Winner bar which opens early where there was 5 customers and 6 boys. I found 3 very attractive. I must say Winner deserves its reputation. I was cuddling with one of the boys but then I realised (just within 10 minutes of being there) that another customer was doing much much more with his boy. There was certainly some cum-eating at the end. 
After that i walked to X-boys where I hired one of them for short time. I didn’t want to go all the way back to jomtien just for short time, and also I wanted to see more of boystown tonight anyway,  but they said they had a room next door for me to enjoy him. At 8 15, i was the first and only customer in xboys, but I guess it was early night  still, I really wonder how they survive. 
After that I walked across to dreamboys a go go and there were a few customers and 8 boys, half of them off-able.
I chose one and after 30 minutes of cuddles and confirming that he would do everything I expected, we agreed on a 2000 bahts for long time in my hotel in jomtien complex. 

We rode his scooter to jomtien, and I must say I probably took far more risks for my life in that single ride than I ever took in weeks of my time in Brazil 😀

Given that it was 10:30 pm when we left dreamboys (a time at which we should expect it to start getting be busy, no?) and that there only one other customer left in the bar, I really struggle to understand how the whole bar survives on ~15 drinks and 2 or 3 bar fines per night. This was a NEW concept for me.  It is like the MK restaurants Hotpot concept but instead is a BBQ buffet type of restaurant.  The front of the place is a HUGE selection of fresh caught seafood and vegetables and eggs, which you select for yourself and place in plastic containers and bring back to your table and you cook them on these very hot BBQ coal fired clay type of ovens.  Koh Larn was full of these types of restaurants where the prices were from 280 baht to 299 baht for All-You-Can-Eat!!!  Truly a bargain and a fun experience.

For our second night restaurant, we returned to the Klom Klom restaurant mentioned at the beginning of this trip report thread.  Again, there was a live concert, great food and fancy mixed cocktails.  Fun was definitely had by us.

I never knew about this....too bad so many have had problems, seems like the daytime is more dangerous than night, good thing I don't go out before 5pm.

I'm going to Rio Tuesday and in over 20 yrs, the only times I've had problems, it was in SP in areas that I should not have gone especially while drinking.

Same here. Paid and even free encounters, some are what I call "lazy bottom", which is not my style. And I found no other way than actually having the boy in bed, that's why I go through such high numbers (by my standards, up to 10 new boys every month) to find the few who are good matches in bed.

Massage shops don't have mamasans and just how helpful the receptionist will be is debatable. You may want  check out the shops in Saphan Kwai (K-Man and KK Massage come to mind) where they identify their guys as "T" (top) and "T&B" (top and bottom) along with their height, weight and minimum tip.
At 365 The River shop, they offer "B2B" (body to body) option that has a 1,000 bht minimum tip.
Although the majority of the guys in most bars and shops identify as straight that doesn't mean they won't provide a satisfactory experience. At some point you have to trust your instincts as you seem to already be doing.
Those who can't get hard (which in my experience is pretty rare) never result in a good outcome. If you have any doubts before offing them, ask them outright If they have any trouble getting hard. If language is an issue, use your translator app or ask the mamasan.
The massage shops mentioned above have LINE accounts. If you want to see a large number of guys in person, walk down Silom Soi 6. There are currently six shops, each one with probably 10-12 guys on hand at any given time.

Off fee and boy drink came to 950, don, t know what was 450 and what 500 (my drink was 500 when I entered) 
Paid with 1000 and did not receive change, it will be a while before I tip waiter there as I must recoup it. 
Before I asked guy, Mamasan announced tip for the boy of  3000 and from somebody who offs from there often I knew it,s too much by 500-1000. But  I had feeling it may work so gulped that. 
Off we went to UNESCO designated where my companion ordered most expensive dish on offer, some steak. I was after dinner already so had a tea and some tart, so you understand that 525 invoice was NOT for what I consumed. 
Then to Rose and things went very well . Word is coming to an end, my 2nd off from Jupiter in few months and guy performed very very to a degree that even with those greedy antics I, m thinking about repeat. 
Of course at good bye time he asked for taxi money only to be told "you already got plenty for taxi" but to his credit he took it with smile and even Lined me "thank you" from said taxi. For such tip expected but still.. 
So Jupiter I despised for so long finally hosts in my heart. 

Day 3 -  My First Repeat. 
From Icon Siam, we took the taxi back. N told the driver to drop him at some point, before the bridge. Since it's already close to 6pm, I decided not to go anywhere and rest before the night out. I asked A if he wanted to go to onsen today and he replied it is already close to dinner time lol. J told me earlier that another friend of his will join us tonight. I laze around in the room, probably dozing off but fret not, I set my alarm around 8pm so I won't miss the witching hour.
Around 8, A asked me if I had plans for dinner. I buzzed J but he didn't reply so I went ahead for dinner with A at G Bangkok. Good food as always. J replied when we were having dinner saying he didn't check his phone and told us that they were at the Circus. So, A and I made our way there once we finished our dinner and saw J and B were still eating their dinner. We sat down and ordered drinks and chatted for a while and discussed the plan for tonight. I told J that I haven't been to Moonlight and Freshboys yet, and B seems eager to watch a good show. My plan was to go to Freshboys first and if I don't find anyone I like, which is most likely the case, I can find solace in Moonlight. But since it's B first time visiting bars, we went to Moonlight first to catch the show. 
We walked past patpong 1, through some girlie bars, Foodland and the other bars to get to Wall Street soi, where Moonlight bar is. It is almost full but we managed to get seats towards where most boys were seated, on the right side of the stage. I immediately saw K, a hunk from Myanmar that I've taken a few times before. He didn't see me at first but after a while he saw me and smiled at me. Not long after, he came down and greeted me, and A, who met him before. He planted himself behind me but didn't really ask me for an off or a drink. He then left to meet a diff customer. Shows about to start and right before the show started, K came to me again, and this time, I offered him a drink. He knows my weakness for sure lol. One of the reasons I wanted to go to Freshboys first is because I know I would not be able to resist taking him if I saw him again, especially when I haven't met him for 3 years now.
The show started with several numbers from a few models, then introduction of the models one by one, the part that Moonlight always recorded and shows on their social media. Not long after I bought K his drink, I told him I will off him LT, and he said ok. He told mamasan and then excused himself to change to his street clothes. I saw him go to another lady customer, most likely informing her that he was already taken. At least that's what I think he did anyway lol. I told him we would like to stay and watch the show and he stayed with me for the remainder of the show. 
The show continues with more numbers by models. The major difference with pre-covid is Babe is doing a diff dance number now, and there is another model who is also doing a solo number to a Backstreetboys song. And there are no more shows by any of the floor boys. All shows are strictly by their model. I believe tonight, we managed to see the full line up of Moonlight's models as I believe there are 9 models tonight. My favorite number is still the number where all the models will go down on the floor and dance on the walkway. Too bad we didn't sit near the walkway.
The usual display of wealth of awarding the models with money garlands by some customers still going on that night. In fact, I believe I saw that each model was given 2k baht notes for doing a nasty shot. I saw many of them suffer after downing the shots, and saw babe trying to escape from drinking another shot after. I managed to tip Nut directly as our seat is quite close to the stage. By the end of the shows, all the available floor boys go back up the stage. Since we plan to go to Freshboys after, I asked K if he wanted to join us or stay in the bar and he said yes. Before leaving, i tipped another floor guy that i like, and who smiled at me when our eyes connected at some point. 
So all 5 of us went to Freshboys and the big cock shows just started as we entered. Pretty impressive dicks indeed, quite a few of the boys joined in, and the will walk to several spots up and down the stage. The different is, there is no pestering audience by all the guys at the end. If you would like to tip or get a feel, when each model come down, u should gesture them to come to you and they will. Otherwise, they will leave you in peace. Refreshing to see this and especially grateful since most od the boys here is not my type. But if i recall correctly, i still call one guy with impressive dick and tip him for a feel.  
J said he recognized one guy who used to work at moonlight. Took me a while but i believed i did saw him at moonlight before. But since he isnt my type, i didnt pay much attention. He is fair skin, cute face, fit body, shorter than most guys. Id say look wise, he is the cutest there. I asked K which of these guys are his friends, or someone he know, and he pointed to two guys, one of them is the guy who used to work at moonlight, and another one i didnt recognize before. I tipped him before we left the bar. J took the ex-moonlight guy. A and B didnt take anyone, but B said he definitely prefer freshboys more than moonlight. 
We part ways, J and me with our boys went to 7 E to get some food then went our separate ways to our hotels. We saw some of moonlight guys also buying food at 7e. One of them is the handsome twink that B really like. Too bad B wasnt with us or he couldve taken this guy back to his hotel hehe. Back at hotel, K as always, delivers great service, maybe even better than i recall, or maybe because we havent met nearly 3 years. 
In the morning, i asked if he wants to have breakfast together, and he said yes. So we went down to Starbuck at Surawong, my first ever visit there, and only because im with a guy hehe. We had a really nice talk about his experience with covid and discussing about his future plan. I will categorize K as a really bright guy who can hold conversation and really know whats important for him. Too bad he is a straight guy, otherwise im pretty sure he will be a good candidate for a BF. But then, maybe its a good thing he is straight, otherwise some rich gays probably wouldve taken him out of the market already lol. 
Next - Day 4 - Onsen, Hotmale, Tawan (again!)

It's not only in Asia also in South America. Update about the 9-teen massage shops in silom.
The 9-teen massage shop, on Thanon Silom corner with soi 6 is still busy with customers. I have been there twice when Prime Massage had no availability for me and a friend. The 2 times where good, more average looking boys than handsome boys (Issan boys) but with good massage skills. This place is clearly for gays who look for a good massage and a happy ending... not a full sex massage shop like the other places in silom soi 6 (the massage boy stays fully deessed during the session). Paid 800B for 90min aroma oil massage. Nice room with in-room shower, what i really like (shower before massage... never take a shower at the end to benefit from the oil on the skin). 500B tip for the boy after a good blowjob to end the session (minimum tip displayed in lobby is 100B).
The very new 9-teen massage shop opened 5 days ago just a few meters away. Just inside the silom soi 6. Same owner, same name (?), but higher prices for new rooms and a more "premium" experience (not very sure about that). 900B the 90 min aroma oil massage. Large and nice lobby (see pic). It is an additional shop. The older one (still new) will continue to work and "send customers to the new shop when fully booked" said the manager.
Manager told me the gay massage business was indeed working very well in Bangkok now.  Some of his staff are former Thai bar boys who don't want anymore to sell themselves in gogo bars but prefer a better and more "stable" income in a massage shop.

I agree with the first part but definitely not the second. In my view it has absolutely nothing to do with being paid or not. I referenced the gogo bars 30-40 years ago when the majority of the customers were Thais. How often have you seen lots of Thais in gogo bars in the past decade or more? That has nothing to do with their not preferring to be with farang. It's a sign that as the Thailand gay scene and Thai society has developed, Thais increasingly want to be with fellow Thais rather than in bars where there are increasing number of farang. Times change.
The same trend has become very obvious in other countries like Japan. As a gay bar/club/sauna culture developed in the 70s and 80s, young Japanese gays found it extremely difficult to form relationships with fellow Japanese. This reflected the long work hours of Japanese, the closeness of housing making it extremely difficult to keep any kind of MtoM sexual relationship private in a country in which the vast majority frowned on them, and overall low salaries. We arrived at Jupiter a bit early, but J decided to book a table with a bottle, so he did, saving us cover charge. We then went into Pride to drink and listen to the live singer, which we recognized used to work at Jupiter before as their midnight singer. Close to 10.30pm, we made our way to Jupiter and were seated near the stage corner on the right side. Couldn't ask for a better seat as it gives us a full unobstructed view of the stage.
The shows start with all the boys in underwear doing a catwalk on the stage, then the boy will go down to the floor, towards the back, to the right side and back to the left side before going up the stairs.
