In TB pre-covid Mena from Cambodia and Aof from Thailand were the official mamasans

Pat/Puk was the manager (short 50s)and the owner was from Taiwan and rarely present, when present he was usually on the terrace (tall, fit with light beard early 40s)

All the other floor staff were considered to be waiters, the Chinese speaking guy was often run off his feet doing the negotiations with Chinese customers.

So the one I thought was the manager is actually the owner, and Mena is the mamasan who often helped me with offing a boy (his name does strike some bell).

All went according to script, I got a boy from Jupiter and we went to Furama Silom , Room was big indeed, I did not stay for breakfast as boy did not want long time . What I did not like is them asking for 1000 baht deposit on check in but I'm not sure they still do it. I don't mind staying there in the future, walk from bars  is not that far as you said

Why don't you try Le Meridien? It became my hotel of choice in Silom after two stays there.

  3. To give you guys some ideas how much it would cost to spend time with some of those high-profile models/actors, here are some ads from a Vietnamese pimp who specializes in celebrities.

Above is a well-known Vietnamese actor/model who had a lead role in a very popular Vietnamese BL - Lost in Paradise (link to the movie's trailer at the end of this post). To chat with him (for 45 minutes) would cost you 400$. To LT him: 12K $.

Below is another ad for a Malaysian actor/model (25, 1m85, 75kg, 20 cm). To ST him (no more than 2 hours): 10K$

The pimp also promoted a Thai actor (some members here may know him as he had a lead role in a classic Thai BL The Love of Siam, the boy on the left in the poster below) when he visited Vietnam about 3 years ago. I couldn't find that ad, but I remember he was even more expensive.

I am very interested in your knowledge of the scene in Vietnam, I'm considering a small trip in the future to HCMC and possibly Hanoi so I'll let you finish your reporting and then ask a few questions.

Feel free to ask whenever. I will repeat in this thread some tidbits I already shared about Viet MBs in various threads to make it easier for future references.

There were usually 3 or4 waiters there. No Mamasans.

I was in there right until it closed but obviously not since. It will be on my visit list in August!

Looks like mamasans to me are just waiters to you. And since you are a veteran and know the owner, they probably wouldn't want to approach you with boy tips, let alone try to cheat you out of money.

I have been a regular customer at Toyboys for many years. It was my favourite bar. I know the owner well and also the cashier.

However, I have never seen a Mamasan in Toyboys.

Do you mean the owner? Guy named Pat or Put, or some similar sounding name? Often hovering around and changing the music.

Or do you mean the cashier (Mr Aoff) who got promoted? As far as I know he  is still in Esaan.

I have never seen anyone else who I would call a mamasan.

That's strange. Are we even talking about the same Toy Boys? I'm talking about the one near the entrance to Boyz Town from Pattayasaisong Road, on the left.

I never met the owner, don't even know if he's Thai or farang. Might have seen the cashier but never talked to him because my bills were always handled by Mamasans or one of the waiters. I met a guy, who I believe is the manager or boss of the mamasans (Asian, tall, in his forties, looking calm and collected), on several occasions. He even asked if I enjoyed the bar.

Kiwi told me there were 3 mamasans at the time he worked there but I only talked to two of them regarding choice of boy - the Chinese-Vietnamese and the Cambodian.

I've never had such a problem & I suspect many other members have not, although I do tend to send the mamasans away and if they quote some crazy prices, I ignore them.

There are a few dodgy mamasans around and it's up to the customers and boys to avoid them.   I remember speaking to one lad, who said the mamasans at Classic Boys tried to charge him 2000 after he returned from a holiday.  He was working in Fresh Boys, as he'd told the crooks at Classic Boys to stick their job.

I expect the behaviour of the mamasans that you describe is detrimental to boys earnings.    If they inflate prices for newbies, there will be fewer offs for the boys, as some customers will resist.    If all of the excess charges go to the mamasans, the boys can only lose.

I think while bogus charges from mamasans are quite rare, their playing favorites is pretty common. Last time in Lucky Boys just before Covid, I tried to off a Viet boy, who I think was one of cutest MBs I ever saw in Bangkok, mamasan (who helped me with the offing of 2 other boys in my 2 previous visits), tried everything he could to stop me to the point of blatantly badmouthing the boy.

I got to talk to the boy anyway in Vietnamese and kinda understood why. Boy was popular because of his look and his participation in the Big Cock shows, so customers kept asking for him no matter what, and he didn't care what Mamasans were thinking and more importantly, he never paid them any cuts. Two boys I offed previously are both Thai and each gave Mamasan 100B right before they left with me.

What I don't understand: Why are the owners such desinterested in how mamasans manage their bars?

If a mamasan is cheating customers and boys, it is very likely she will cheat the owner too.

I had a feeling that the Toy Boy owner might be aware of this (it had been going on for years) but didn't do anything about it. Probably because he can speak Chinese and helped them deal with Chinese customers??? A year before Covid, when I didn't see him around, I asked the Cambodian mamasan friend and he said that guy lost his job because of many problems. Now it looks like he's back again.

Actually there was quite a turnover the past two weeks. Some guys went to other bars and new guys came in and took over their numbers hence confusing to customers who wanted to find back the same guy.

Good, I may try them again next week

I used to do that say 20 years ago in Pattaya, sleeping all day and then hit the bars at night going to bed at around 4am .

I started frequenting Thailand in my early twenties. Ate whatever I wanted, never exercised and did not sleep much. I was on vacation!

Nowadays, I've been trying to keep the same routine as at home. I have much longer stays in Thailand mainly because I can work remotely. So most of the day, I stay inside and do work. It also saves me tons of time on applying sunscreen :) Also I stick to the gym for roughly 2 hours each day, usually in the afternoon (not weight lifting and heavy stuff, just running, push-up, sit-up, bar pulling to stay slim-fit) and may order an occasional massage after gym. My last stay in Poisedon was a disappointment (they claimed on Agoda they had a gym, but they didn't).

Although the night life is what makes it different from home, I tend not to stay too late anymore. I don't do LT so if I have an ST, night usually ends around 1 or 2 am.

The good news from this routine is that whenever I walk into Silom Soi 4 or Jomtien Complex, many, especially farangs, still think I'm a freelancer, looking for customers (the fact that I'm Asian and look very much so may contribute), just like years ago.

enjoy spending time with other lads who carry a few more kg and have other endearing characteristics.

Didn't you just call Vinapu as "other lads"?

If it is not that - then perhaps they are selecting guys from the apps for a 3-some or 4-some later in the evening....

They should do the way Vinapu did: chain-introduction: so the customer picks the first guy, who suggests his cousin, who suggests his roommate, who suggests his bar co-worker, and so on.

I like that farang and boy sitting beside each other and both glued to their phone, strong romantic bond indeed

I sat in Sun bar last night and saw an elderly farang, who was with a boy, in the @home bar opposite. They didn't talk, didn't hold hand. Boy on the phone the whole time, and the customer just sat motionless, staring into infinity for a couple of hours. He didn't even "people-watching".

@MinI'd love to meet as long as I'm fully recovered from the food poisoning I got on pride night...I'm guessing it was from bacteria in the ice of my drink.

Now THAT is something I'm definitely not enthusiastic about as it robbed me of romantic beach time with Grindr guy.

Sorry about that man. I hope Grindr guy knows how to nurture you back to health. Just lemme know when you are ready to meet up. I'm curious about your Grindr guy too. Could he be your Bangkok guy in Curtis' story?

I got incredibly lucky with Grindr and met up with a man who was intelligent, sweet, handsome, sexy, experienced, and manly at the party tonight. So, I will always have fond memories of this event.

So you wanna meet me, another man who is intelligent, sweet, handsome, sexy, experienced, and manly 😁 kidding. Anyway, you sound really like @jason1975 very enthusiastic about many things :)
