We have eaten at the Canton Restaurant in Central Festival several times and always been happy with the food. Canton is a Chinese restaurant and has good Dim Sum. It is open from 10 - 10 and the price is very reasonable. We normally get out of the place at about 200 baht a head. It is casual as are all places I have eaten at Central Festival. One of the types of posts I enjoy writing is whenever I find a restaurant that I did not know about and probably most people who visit the message boards also didn't know about. My latest "find," thanks to 'Geezer,' was the Cherry restaurant, about which I posted in a thread below. Surely I'm not the only one around here who manages to find good restaurants. I'd like to know if others here have good restaurant "finds" that the rest of us may not know about. Tell us about your favorite discoveries, whether it's "farang" food, Thai food, or whatever and in what city we'll find the restaurant.

I have usually found in Bangkok that exchange rates at the various on-street booths are almost identical, apart from Siam Commercial Bank which tends to be slightly less favourable. Purely as an exercise (since I have accounts here), between 16:00 and 18:00 this afternoon in Pattaya, I checked the rates at various bank booths and found much more variation. I was checking Hong Kong dollar rates which, as the HK$ is tied to the US$, means the percentage variations should be virtually similar for US dollars. For those who have not stumbled across it, Aljazeera (available via cable TV)is covering the red shirt demonstrations/riots extensively and in English. Each 1/2 hour they seem to present reports with TV video coverage from BKK. They broadcast interviews with both red shirt representatives and government spokesmen along with their own analysts. It seems pretty even handed to me.

I have been doing visa runs this year to Phnom Penh. They will do a same day 60 day tourist visa that I needed. I found the best way to do these is to leave Bangkok on the early morning flight. I took Thai Air roundtrip and the cost was 6800 plus taxes which ended up like 10k baht. The cost to enter Cambodia is 20USD. The cost to leave at the end of the day is 25USD. I am planning a short trip (4 days to Ho Chi Minh City) to Vietnam from Bkk. I am US citizen. My question is this: Has anyone used the "visa service" for the Vietnam Visa? ...where you apply online and they process and send you email letter. This letter you then take to airport and receive visa stamp. Is this true? There are several of these websites. Are these websites legit? Sounds to good to be true. Anyone done this process? I went to dinner with friends last night and took the road to the Jomtien beach for the first time. They have made great headway on it since my last trip. I did not experience the usual potholes or the backed up traffic. I did notice they have a big lane for parking. Why build the road and then put a parking lane in? Was that the intent all along? Anyone know how long until this is finished?

Im in pattya right now , for my yearly visit , and i think the standards have dropped compared to my visit last year, Have been to crazy dragon 3 times , and most of the boys are not that good and on chating to them , most boys have been very up front and have told me that they have no power left , having been played with during the evening, Of all the bars i find the boys that suit me are in funny boys , a,bomb and wild west, but i have yet to visit the bar up stairs of forest bar, this is ofcourse my own impressions , and we all dont like the same kind of guy

The Grocery Store at Central Festival on Beach Road is quite nice. It is a bit more expensive than others in the area but if convenient, it has a nice selection of fruits, meats, Farang food, handmade items etc. I asked and they said they didn't deliver but not sure if the lady understood me. This is located on the very bottom of the shopping center. If you enter on Beach Road, take the outside escalator down and it is right there.

On Thursday Afternoon at the Police Region 2 Child and Women Protection Unit based at Banglamung Police Station, a press conference was held to announce the arrest of an American National accused of producing pornographic images and videos in his Central Pattaya Apartment. UBC Platinum service is not available in VT6. You can subscribe and pay but the channels are not there. They say that they have one Large satellite and that it does not connect all the channels and there is nothing they can do. One can get more channels with a smaller box but they say that is against the rules. Anyone know why they do this?

Thailand's Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has declared a state of emergency in Bangkok amid escalating anti-government protests. I have a Thai friend who builds houses for people. He is good at it and I was looking over the last house he build in some photos he brought to show me. It looked lovely. I asked him about how much it cost and he said about 100,000 baht.
