Over the years of going/staying at the Ambience hotel in boyztown,i have always remembered the friendly security guard that used to walk around. Dont know if anyone remembers him,but he was probaly in his 50 s ,been there for yonks,always wore his baseball security cap,skinny guy. On my last visit he wasn?t there,on asking the waiter said he was "gone".

Getting home in Bangkok around 8:00 pm this evening, I was surprised to see groups of police in riot gear on several street corners on Silom and Sathorn. I have not seen today's papers, but it seems there was a riot in Patpong last night. A Thai friend told me that police and government officers were there to confiscate fake goods in the market that stretches along the soi in the evening. The traders rioted and pursued the police, even after warning shots were fired into the air. Maybe someone here knows how to help. I have a very good friend who has gone around the bend. I mean seriously crazy. He has been hospitalized in lock down psychiatric wards twice and left without permission or taking his meds. He is in the process of giving away gobs of his money and will soon be destitute. He married a Thai woman and has since abandoned her. I just received a phone call from her asking for advice. He drinks excessively and smokes way too much marijuana. I heard a rumor about that yesterday. Today I called Michael, the owner, to ask about it. He said yes, there will be no more buffets. As of Saturday, May 2 the famous restaurant made the switch. Michael said this is not a sudden change. He had this in mind when he took over the restaurant 8 months ago and has been planning for it ever since. I asked him what prompted the change. He said there is a variety of reasons including the fact that because there are fewer people in Pattaya these days he ends up throwing away a lot of food. Yesterday (Tuesday) my Boyfriend and I took off on an adventure to the Mekong River, a National Park, and a new attraction just added this year, 3000 Holes. It was about an hour and a half drive to the National Park, where we visited the "Painted Cliff" which is the Thai meaning of Pha Taem. You can drive very close to the top of the cliffs that overlook the Mekong River. This is looking up river at the top of the cliffs. The painting is on the side of the cliff, directly below this picture. This is also a place where you see the first sunrise daily on Thailand. I had a talk with the owner of the Rock Hard bar, in Jomtien Complex, this evening. Beginning in June he is going to cut most of his drink prices to 69 baht. I laughed when he said 69 baht. He made it clear that I had caught the significance. Some drink prices will be as low as 59 baht and some as high as 79 baht, but most will be 69 baht. Also, beginning in June, he is going to re-establish go-go boys at the bar.

At the moment, the published exchange rate is 34.90 to the US Dollar. Only a few days ago it was around 35.3. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I simply cannot grasp how all of this works. From what I am reading, the US Dollar ought to be gaining strength. With all the turmoil in Thailand, I would have expected the baht to weaken. I wouldn't have expected it to strengthen. What accounts for this? I DON'T GET IT.

Am I alone or do others feel that Bangkok Tuk Tuk drivers are amongst the most low class thieves in the world. Their attempts to rip off any farang silly enough to try to engage them make them most despicable. Their thievery causes me to wish them a less than happy future. Some taxi drivers are almost as bad. Especially at night as one leaves a club. However, the tuk tuk drivers cause me more angst. I really dislike the buggers.

Yesterday I booked the bus with pickup at my condo for tomorrow. It was booked. They just called me that the minibus was downstairs now to take me to the airport. I told the driver that I was going tomorrow, not today. He called me back a few minutes later and said they cannot pick me up tomorrow, I would have to get to the bus station myself. I called to the office and could not get any satisfaction. The woman in the office said, "Tomorrow we are busy, cannot pick up everybody". I canceled and booked a car instead. This is the first problem I have had with their service.

Hello, Am arriving for first trip next week and you guys have been great in providing advice for the trip. Plan was beach at day and play at night. Just checked the weather and it looks like it has been raining for the past 30 days and is forecast to continue to do so for the next 30. What gives really?
