I love my dogs I bought at JJ Market in Bangkok. When I saw them, my heart sank as they looked malnourished and not well taken care of. I could not leave them there. I took 3 of them one day and they have been with me since. What I didn't know was that even though they are great dogs they came with many issues. One has an eating disorder and he has been a challenge since day 1. (I overeat and he under-eats.) I just had one of them operated on as he was predisposed to knee problems. Just returned from 28 days in Thailand and thought I'd share some thoughts. I am well aware that individual perceptions are colored by many things so dont think anything I say is written in stone , rather just my feelings on this trip. Arrived in Pattaya on march 6 and would have to say I found the bars and beach fairly slow. Certainly not High Season. Sunee Plaza has really gone down hill in the quality of the boys IMO. I went to Jimmy Jimmy James 3 times early and found no one that could be described as really cute, handsome or whatever. This is quite a change from my last trip in November. In an article exclusively about SE Asia locations, Bangkok, KL and Penang along with the Phillippines are mentioned. The article reports that Thailand issued nearly 1500 retirement visas in 2005, but expects the 2006 figure (not yet available) to increase significantly. I missed Phuket Pride because I was ill and working and I'll be on assignment in Europe from end-May through to September so it looks as if Pattaya Pride is my best bet this year. I would appreciate any advice on how soon and where I should arrange for a room. My budget is around Baht 700 a night and I am happy with no TV, air-conditioning or carpet. A separate bathroom, a working non-squeaking ceiling fan and a nice big bed are all I really need. And a swimming pool if possible - in case I can't swim in the sea at all (which seems to be the most likely scenario from what I've read on all the Thai boards).

Freak accident - Pattaya Mail A circus dwarf, nicknamed Od, died recently in the North when he bounced sideways from a trampoline and was swallowed by a yawning hippopotamus which was waiting to appear in the next act. Vets on the scene said Hilda the Hippo had a gag reflex which automatically caused her to swallow. They added in mitigation that the hefty creature was a vegetarian who had not previously digested a circus performer. Unfortunately, the 1000 plus spectators continued to applaud wildly until common sense dictated there had been a tragic mistake. I was in the police station on an entirely different matter about a year and a half ago when a group of about twenty lady-boys working Beach road were brought in, fined 200 baht each, and then released. They were acting as if the whole thing was nothing but a big joke and they were almost having a party in the police station. Thailand will hold a general election December 16 or 22 to restore a democratic government following a September coup, junta-installed Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont said today. Just got back from a night in Boyztown where I was amazed to see the Throb show. A dupicate of the Topman show. I saw some of the Topman dancers and was truly sad about the fact that throb have chosen to copy Topman. Whats going on at Throb, do they not have any new idea's. The show at Throb however was a poor copy and the sound system was not up to the Topman system. It sounded a cheap charlie copy. Give me Topman any time. Sorry Throb, but I have never seen anything like this in Pattaya before. Get your act together.
