Obviously one of the major topics of discussion on these message boards is the gay bar scene in Thailand. I'm curious as to whether people have particular bars they would call their favorite, whether in Pattaya, Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, or wherever in Thailand. I'm not really asking that people specify reasons why any one bar would be their favorite, although please feel free to say why if you wish. Well, my BF finished his first semester of his MBA program at Mae Fah Laung University in Chiang Rai. He ranked fifth out of seventy people in his class, so he is doing well. He told me it was much harder than he thought it would be and that he had to study and work very hard. The program is an English language program and all the course work is done in English. I can't imagine doing any Master's program in a second language. I am happy for him. In his undergrad work, he was mostly a C student, so his high placement in his MBA class was a big acheivement for him and made him very happy. I wish I understood more about the way economics work, but this move seems to me part of Thailand's bid to stem the strengthening of the baht and if it works, may even be the beginning of a reversal of the trend. In the thread on the expansion of Tesco Lotus Express shops there is a some commentary on where to find items from home (or imported items). I love the upscale Thai supermarkets, and as a tourists and long stay visitor, I've found them well stocked. As I hope to move to LOS full time in the next year or two, I wonder what grocery items those of you living in Thailand have a hard time finding and actually miss. Every day now the baht is setting a new record high. I know the topic is "same same." But those here on a fixed income have to cut back somehow and I am a little concerned at how high the baht will go. The boys still want the same, so it means cutting back here and there. One less boy a week, and fewer visits to check out the bars. I don't just throw my money around like before. I almost dread looking at the exchange rate on the bank wall. I love it here, it's just now as cheap as it used to be.

A tour bus on Tuesday plunged off Thailand's Friendship Highway, overturned and burst into flames, killing at least 29 people and injuring another 30. According to Pol Col Nisakorn Boonthanon the driver of the air-conditioned bus from Yasothon to Bangkok lost control of the vehicle on Mitr-traparp (Friendship) Road in Muak Lek district, Saraburi, and crashed. I will be visiting Thailand for the first time next week....spending a few days in Phuket and Bangkok. While I am there would like to visit a gay massge centre and a go go bar. The article doesn't say whether they were arrested in connection with male or female minors, but since all four arrests occurred in Pattaya, it wouldn't be far fetched to guess that at least some of these were gay pedophile arrests.
