I stayed at the Crown Plaza hotel recently and it is lovely. It is the old Pan Pacific Hotel and it is less than 5 minute walk to the gay gogo bar area and to Silom 4. The hotel is on Rama 4 Road and easy access to the Sky Train. They have a VIP floor that is great with lots of amenities. I have always stayed at the Intercontinental or Four Seasons and recently the Marriott Executive. The Crown Plaza is great for LOCATION. You don't need Tuk Tuks or Taxis. It is easy to get everywhere and I'm glad I found this place!

Right around the corner from Mango Tree (one Soi down from Tartawan) are several great bars. They are very inexpensive compared to other bars in Bangkok or Pattaya. First Mango Tree is a fabulous restaurant. If you don't make reservations, you may not get in. Great Thai food. Solid is a fun bar with about 15 or so gogo boys. They have some great looking guys and it is very laid back and friendly. The drinks are 100 baht. I have known the mamasan since the old Boy dot com across from Future Boys. Super A is around the corner from that bar and you have to walk upstairs. The place is small but some fantastic guys there. They have a short time room for 200 baht. The drinks…

Gay Bangkok vs. Gay Pattaya: A Gay Man's Adventures in Thailand I have now stayed in Bangkok for the last 5 months. It is been a great visit and I have really enjoyed my time here. Bangkok and Pattaya are such different cities. The difference between them is the difference between night and day or a total top and total bottom. First, Bangkok is a world-class city. It has everything that you would need if you were a businessman in Thailand. The transportation system in Bangkok is incredible. The choice of restaurants and food establishments is also amazing. Shopping centers are on every corner in downtown Bangkok. Siam Paragon and Central World are two of the best shoppi…

I went there this week and they are really very nice. The rates on the website are very reasonable. The breakfast is good and the apartments themselves are well done and clean and modern. The gym is decent and has all equipment needed. It is a short 8 minute walk to Emporium Shopping and they have a Tuk Tuk to take you at your convenience until 10PM each night. I stayed at the Marriott apartments on Sathorn for a year and loved it. This is the same quality but a bit newer. Lots of restaurants and eateries in the area. You will get a very reasonable long stay rate at this hotel.

As inflation takes hold in the Land of Smiles, government workers might be smiling to learn that their minimum wage has been raised to 15,000 baht. That's about $500 a month. So that bar boy making 1500 baht a night might be happy to know that he need only work ten days a month to keep up with the local clerk at the visa office! Thailand's consumer price index is up 4.29%, compared with 4.08% a year earlier. Source: WSJ

Hi guys, I'm at loss. I've tried all over the web, and I've found either two years old posts, or - at Utopia - next to nothing detailed about for-pay venues with real fun & play. I'd appreciate any guidance. Thanks in advance.

Indian gay rights activists are outraged by public comments made by the Health Minister when he described homosexuality as a “disease”. The comments were made at a meeting of district and mayoral leaders on Monday on the issue of HIV/AIDS prevention. Ghulam Nabi Aziz blatantly stated that gay sex was “unnatural”. Coming almost two years to the day after a landmark Delhi High Court ruling that decriminalised homosexuality, the comments prompted a storm of protest and calls for an immediate retraction. Anand Grover, the United Nations special rapporteur on health, criticised Mr Azad's comments. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-south-asia-14024774 Nat…

My plans include traveling to Pattaya and Koh Samui at the end of December through January. Going from Rio de Janeiro to Bangkok. Very flexible dates. And ideas on where I can get decently-priced airfare. I cannot use an air/hotel package as I will be staying with a friend who has condos in both locations. Thanks for any and all help/advice. I've never been. Also, thinking of going to Angkor Wat. Has anyone been? How long should I plan on going for? Fly? Bus? Where to stay while there? Recommendations?

Mystery deaths plague Thai hotel Did a three-star Thai hotel inadvertently kill six of its guests while trying to poison bed bugs? Between January and March, six people suffering from virtually the same medical symptoms died after staying at the Downtown Inn in Chiang Mai or using its facilities. Authorities maintain the deaths are just a coincidence. But an investigation by New Zealand's "60 Minutes" news program discovered high levels of the pesticide chlorpyrifos, a chemical used to kill bed bugs, in the hotel room where New Zealand backpacker Sarah Carter, 23, died in February. Reporters pretending to be guests took samples from the room. The UK Daily Mail report…

Interesting (slightly tongue-in-cheek) article on the CNN website that is a variation on the Seven Deadly Sins. I suppose it’s odd that Bangkok does not feature, but then sex is not a deadly sin! The seven are – Gluttony: Taipei - “Cheap eats, everywhere, day or night” Sloth: Seoul - “Seoul’s Internet has been honed, sculpted, streamlined and sped up to such a degree that no one really needs to move” Pride: Manila - “Filipino men -- they're too busy gazing lustfully into the mirror” Greed: Shenzen - “Shenzhen's philosophy: if you can't make a million, make a billion” Lust: Tokyo - “Tokyo is like a dirty old man in a teenager's body Envy: …

Thai 'red shirts' protest and demand leaders' release 23 January 2011 Last updated at 12:42 ET Anti-government "red-shirt" activists have protested in the Thai capital Bangkok, and called for the release of their imprisoned leaders. Police say around 27,000 people marched peacefully from the site of last year's protests to Democracy Monument. The red-shirts plan to keep up the pressure on the Thai government with regular protests Nineteen of the group's leaders and dozens of supporters remain in detention after protests and clashes with security forces last year. More than 90 people were killed in the violence and hundreds injured. Sunday's demonstratio…

104 guys have ads on Rentboy for Bangkok. I didn't look at them all, first because they all seemed to want US prices, and second because most of the listings seemed to be agency boys. I guess this is for the guy who can't be seen in the gay bars. What was astonishing was how, well, unattractive many of the guys advertising are. I've always found better in the bars.

If you are traveling to Thailand and you get to the airport and need a car to your hotel, do NOT use the service inside the airport. They are Taxi Mafia and they overcharge. Go outside and get a meter taxi or go up to the departure gate and get an even cheaper ride into the city. The AOT is the only service allowed to advertise inside the airport and they suck. Be leery of them!

So I had a nice hotel booked in Bangkok on Priceline. Because these are not cancelable, I bought the insurance Priceline offers, only to find it does not cover cancellations due to airline mechanical problems causing the flight itself to be canceled. I called Priceline, and although she was eager to call and cancel the reservation for me, (no doubt because then Priceline gets to keep all of the money) she also told me that the hotel could, at its choice, rebook my reservation for the new dates and I would not lose the money. She emphasized that his was the hotel's discretion. When I spoke with the hotel, they at first were eager to rebook me, except now the last night o…

The prices for the drinks in Bangkok keep going up. Went last night to two bars and the drink costs were 300 baht. That is now almost 10 USD. Absolutely nuts IMHO. I have never been sure how these places can get away with that here but they do. I stay in Pattaya the majority of time I am in Thailand and the drink prices are at least half of that.

Went to Hero Massage on a weekday afternoon. Found it as welcoming as described on various forums: two English-speaking proprietors who put me at ease; clean and comfortable place; fixed prices at 600 Baht for the house and 1000 tip for the boy; had a drink while viewing the boys behind the glassed pane. There were about thirty of them, most of which surprisingly did next to nothing to attract customers. I asked who was really gay, and the owner told three boys to stand; then asked who has a big cock, and again three were made to stand up. Unfortunately there was no overlap between the two threesomes, so I opted for one of the latter group. The room was spacious, with a …

Koh Samui is a unique Thailand experience. Far smaller than the mainland city of Bangkok, the islanders are still adapting to the modern influx of tourists. As recently as the 1980s there were almost no western visitors. Today, the island sees thousands of tourists a year, but has still kept in touch with small town island life. This is not the place to go if you are looking for a typical tourist experience. Rather, it is a great destination when you want to get away from it all, look at the beautiful waters and simply relax. Most of the Koh Samui population is Buddhist, although there is also a high percentage of Muslims as well. There are roughly 40,000 full time inh…
