with his foto out there, pretty good chance

I think so also. The picture of the man is now widely shared on social networks

Another article the title of which is "delegacia identifica suspeito" but does not give much information.

"The case took place on January 30 but gained repercussions after the disclosure of the possible suspect. On the Internet, people report that the same man who appears in the images usually frequents the bars in Lapa to commit the crime.

In a post, a woman even claimed a friend of hers almost fell for the coup as the suspect usually approaches victims in a friendly way".

It seems that Cadu was drugged and was not totally conscious when he was taken to this hotel. I cannot imagin that Cadu decided to take such a guy to an hotel.

The other take away of this very sad case, is the risk of "good night Cinderella" in Brazil and the need to be very careful with your drinks in Brazil !

"In Brazil, GHB, reportedly known as Goodnight Cinderella,  renders people unconscious or in a walking blackout or at least otherwise vulnerable for sexual assault.  Actually there are more than 50 drugs that have been identified in drug-facilitated sexual assault cases.  It doesn’t need to be a cocktail of multiple drugs.  And  it really doesn’t matter which drug is used as the results are generally much the same.  A victim is assaulted and has limited ability to recall details or maybe even the identity of the suspect(s).

It’s really difficult to fully protect yourself against DFSA, but you need to do what you can!  Drinking alone (or with friends but you are not really watching each others’ backs by splitting up, etc.), accepting an unusual drink from a stranger, leaving your drink unattended are the obvious things that increase risk"

The GHB can also be given through chewing gum as in the case below

"I met another Brazilian traveller in the street one afternoon, started talking with him and ended up having lunch and talking about the different things in Rio that were interesting to see. After this we were walking and he bought a packet of chewing gum and offered me one. Having seen him buy the gum I didn´t think much of it at the time. But now I am pretty sure that he swapped it for a pre-prepared gum in his pocket before giving it to me".

  3. Police search for suspect who killed man in Lapa hotel after applying 'Good night, Cinderella' (*)

Civil Police from the Homicide Police Station of the Capital (DHC) are looking for the suspect of robbing and killing Carlos Eduardo Rodrigues, 37 years old, in a motel room in Lapa, downtown Rio on the 30th. crime after applying the scam known as "Good Night, Cinderella", in which the victim is drugged.

Security cameras captured the moment when the victim and the suspect enter the Hotel Estadual together, on Rua do Rezende. Only the suspect left the place, after taking Carlos' belongings, including his cell phone and the clothes he left dressed in.

    One thought about city selection:

Almost every time I've gone to Brazil, I've visited SP, Rio, Porto Alegre (see my recent post here), plus one new city. Over the years, this has been a great way to explore this huge, fascinating country.

So I've been at least once to Manaus, Belem, Fortaleza, Natal, Recife, Fernando de Noronha, João Pessoa, Salvador, Brasilia, Belo Horizonte, Ouro Preto, Curitiba, Floripa, and several more. I do not regret any visits, except perhaps boring Vitória

I still want to visit Bonito, Goiânia, and a few others.

But back to your original question: Of those three, I'd vote for BH

Xclay, I tend to do the same and during each trip, I try to discover a new place. There is so much to discover in Brazil. Spending some time in Amazonas or in Pantanal is really awesome ... but boyless (there are a couple of saunas in Manaus). Travelling in Minas Gerais outside of the very well known cities (BH, Ouro Preto, ...) is also amazing. It is a totally  different Brazil : I discovered recently the "montanhas cafeeiras" (moutains where coffee grows). Amazing !

I still have quite a lot to discover ...

Hey guys. I promise I’m not a lazy ass. I have read almost all posts about these places. Never the less, I’d love to have a more summarized recommendation on which one to visit for the first time for let’s say four for five days from SP, both in terms of boys (free and gp) and tourism attraction. Thank you so much.

You did not consider Balneario Camboriu ? No sauna but lots of young guys everywhere

I was in Rio in December and I always use Smart Fit, day pass BRL $24.90.  I looked into monthly pass on previous trips but believe you need CPF number but day pass is cheap enough anyway.  Smart Fit in Ipanema is very gay.  But there are Smart Fits all over Copacabana.

Now getting a Brazilian CPF is very easy for a foreigner. Everything can be done on line and you receive your CPF rather quickly

I only got robbed there once and it was from the military police and it was just for money.

Last year, I went to Buzios with a boy I knew well. I was planning to hire a car. I discussed with an American  friend of mine who told me that a few years ago, he was with another friend and 2 boys going to Buzios in a rented car. They were stopped by the military police who claimed that the car was not ok, that the documents were not conform, ... and who threatened to block the car and started asking for bribes. They finally let them go after they got all their money ...

So I went to Buzios by onibus

I have been to carnival at least 10 times and never had violence. You must be careful. Keep the sex to the saunas and the boys you know and trust can come to your hotel. Don't go out with groups for parties and leave drinks unattended. Carnival is safe as tons of police.

I do not think that it is not respectful to Kadu to share what I learned since my first post. It will illustrate what TotallyOz mentionned above.

Kadu was Brazilian, almost real Carioca and pretty much aware of the risks. After his service in 117 on sunday, he went to an hotel in Lapa where he met a boy - certainly not a boy from 117. He was found the next morning robbed and killed. Police is investigating.

Inviting a new boy from 117 to your place or - worse - going to his place is not always safe. From a reliable source I heard the story of a gringo going to a 117 boy's place in Ipanema and being almost thrown through the window in order to get his money and credit card codes ...

Finally, I was in Copacabana for year end and I was amazed to see how much police was there. All groups of boys and girls likely coming from favelas were systematically searched by police. It is the same for Carnaval : lot of police.

When I was in Rio, there was a crime which was heavily commented, committed on a tour guide who was walking back to his place in Centro. He was killed by 2 girls on a motorbike. The whole scene was filmed by cameras.

With that said. Goodbye and good life to everyone.

I will always remember those good times where this forum was actually a good platform where to receive and provide very good guidance and experiences over latin guys, not just a stage for drama queens (not referring to you Slvkguy).

    Far times.

We will miss you likeohmygod and all your witty and informative comments !

  10. I went to new Lagoa in Consolaçao yesterday which was a saturday. I was a bit disappointed, keeping in mind the former Lagoa location : the main room is much smaller and bar and kitchen occupies à large part of the room ; the layout of the building (4 floors) is confusing : you always wonder where you are ; there is consequently a lot of stairs ; there are not as many boys as in the past (linked to the size of the room I guess). But it is clean, the food seems to be as good as before, the rooms are new, most (all ?) with showers, the common showers are visible from the main room and it is a permanent show to see the boys showering. For the customers, there is a shower which is partially hidden. It is a shame that some boys use this particular shower ...

I stayed at the Heritage hotel, which is 5 minutes walk to the hotel and very nice. Sujinho ("little dirty") is a restaurant on Consolaçao which is opened very late and which is well known among Paulistas. Worth discovering the coffee shop and the main restaurant on the other side of the street.

Villa Emilia - although there is no pool.  It’s 1.5 blocks from Sauna Termas. Simple & clean rooms…excellent breakfast & bar in lobby.  I’d say it’s a 3.5 star hotel.  I’ve stayed several times and no problem bringing guys back.

if you want 5 star, then “The One Barcelona” ….not nearly as convenient as Villa Emilia though

I stayed there also (Villa Emilia). Quite nice and close to Termas.

I spent last night with a 22 year old named Gabriel who was truly beautiful.  The only problem was that he had just arrived in SP from Minas Gerais and spoke absolutely zero words of English which meant that we had to get by using my extremely limited Portuguese.  Before anybody out there gets too worried about me, I will tell you that he gozar-ed twice so we did figure out how to make things work but I am wondering if there is a list of phrases on here somewhere that would be useful in such a situation?  If not, could we make one?

I started  some limited list in the past, after my first trip to Brazil,  but there were no many contributors ...

You can find other useful words in this thread

    Aproveita !

Hey guys, for some reason I can no longer see the Latin American section. I get a message saying that I don’t have permission to see those posts. Does anybody know what is happening?

@pauleiro, my friend.. I’ve always enjoyed your thorough review of places you have been around the world. I’m in Belo Horizonte and wanted to learn about the best spots to go in BH?

    Hello

I reported on BH as others on this forum. I had fun in the sauna Olimpo (even though there were not as many boys as in Rio or SP. But one good boy is enough. The friend I was travelling with was not lucky since he did not find the twinks he likes). I was lucky also to meet a RB who was staying in the hotel I was in (very close to sauna). I did not spend much time in BH since it was a base to go visit Ouro Preto, Mariana or Inhotim. No boys there, but nice places, worth a visit.
