Sorry, but I disagree. There are bars clearly aimed at gay customers, then there are bars like Jupiter who started out as gay bars and now morphed into girl bars
Girl or Chinese ladies ?

The place was packed with groups of straight backpackers there is see "the lady boys".
Yes, the 'straights' were probably from 'Strangers' bar. The drag Ru Paul bar.
They tend to spill out onto the soi between acts for a cigarette.

A friend shot a video a couple of weeks ago in Silom Soi 4.
It shows how much the soi has recovered after the past couple of years.

Literal translation of Nong Ngu Hao "cobra swamp", which is what the airport site was called before its current name ("Golden Land") was bestowed.
True, but still never heard it.

Have lived here 22+ years and never heard a local refer to the airport as 'swampy' (or Pattaya as 'Patters'). Maybe I should get out more.

His concerns are well founded. But the only way to reduce—not eliminate—the threat of another tragedy is to strictly limit attendance and ensure that all means of egress are open and unobstructed. Once people sense that their life is endangered by fire or the press of the crowd, it’s too late. The outcome is then determined by the rush to escape.
Plus Covid!

The enormous number of thin girls sat on Thaniya in the evenings means one can look without spending first. I want a man street like that.
Unless Thaniya has changed recently, it was always a Japanese area. The girls on the soi are Japanese looking Thais or to the Japanese taste.
Certainly, in the past, non-Japanese were not welcome into the bars.
Maybe it's all changed now since Covid.
Soi 4 is very straight welcoming although no available ladies for pay.
And, probably irrelevant, but Patpong 1 is due to re-open as a market in the evenings.- TMax and floridarob

And if you had made this post first instead of telling me I’m wrong we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

It seems the old practice of raising prices when things are slow has taken hold 🙂.
Yes, a strange Thai practice that I've never understood.

And I just live down the street from Patpong and know what I see. (And hear) So absolutely true.
Yes paul, of course we all know that to be true but I was talking about an order that went out LAST night. I promise that all bars obeyed last night and as you know, you live on the border of at least two different police districts.
As I pointed out, further along Silom different rules applied.
As I also said, this seems to be an annual thing when police commanders(?) change and after a few days it all settles down again with some bars flouting the overall regulations.
I can foresee it becoming strict again during the forthcoming APEC conference next month. -

They may technically close at 2, but if customers still there they will keep going till they leave or police come along and say time to go home.
Absolutely NOT true.
All the Patpong bars under Bang Rak jurisdiction have been ordered to close at 02:00 --- and they have done!
One soi 4 'bar' used to open till the early hours, has been ordered to close at 02:00 for one month. (this, considering it's ownership is surprising!).
However, walk along Silom to Saladeng, another police district, and one bar close to Silom, is packed into the street!
Now I have seen this ,over the years, whenever a new commander takes over a district, it all becomes very strict for a week or two.
Read into that all you like. I'm only talking from 20+ years being a local. -

From the inside yes, from the outside it is the most hideous amateuristic piece of architecture since London's Southbank.

Sweet Cigar was notorious for youngsters. Surprised if it wasn't closed by police.

Yes it is, currently operating on Patpong 1, Kings Castle and Kings Castle 1. Rumor has it that the Kings group has also bought the old Superstar gogo bar, that is just a rumour though and I haven't seen it confirmed anywhere
Thanks Max. I never go to Patpong 1 since the market went.
