This is a very timely post because I was talking to Dr Craig Challen last week. He was one of the 2 Australian cave divers involved in the rescue.

Most of what he said I had heard before, but it was great to hear it straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak, and to ask him some questions about the rescue. 

He's a real hero, although that accolade does not sit well with him. He's a lovely, humble guy.

No, I'm certainly not blaming the locals for the destruction of the citadel! 

I was disappointed that the reconstruction, for whatever reason, was poorly done at the time. For example, the buildings to the left and right as you walk through the main gate were just facades with nothing behind them.

The structures may well be completed by now. I was there 9 years ago.

Other then that, everything you could ever want can be found in Siam Paragon, especially downstairs. There is one Thai restaurant (I forget the name, but it's just down from Harrods Tearoom) where you can sit outside on the deck. When in Bangkok I often just go there every evening and work my way through the extensive menu.

After your meal wander over to the nearby Gourmet Market and enjoy all the free samples on the far left of the store.
