  1. Thank you for all of the recommendations, very much appreciated. And beautiful photos @PeterRS! I will keep all of these ideas in mind whilst doing my research, this trip won't be until later in the year (if it goes ahead). I still have a trip report from January overdue!

I think you need to state what type of island you want. If you want luxurious hotels and upscale restaurants, then Phuket and Samui are for you. If you want more local ones, then there is much more choice. Although Samui and Chang are easy to get to, the Samui and Trat airports are privately owned by Bangkok Airways, and therefore priced as a monopoly.

Driving outside of Bangkok is very straightforward. Just make sure you have an international driving license. On my next visit in May we are going to drive to Hua Hin for a few days, then up to some national parks near the Myanmar boarder. Last time we flew to Chiang Rai and did a great road trip of the NE - Highlights were the boarder roads above the Wild Boar Tham Luang caves. Having a car gives great freedom to roam near or far from the sea.

I'm pretty easy - both luxurious and local are fine with me, as long as the hotel has a balcony with beach/ocean views, and some dining options within walking distance. Phuket I've been to twice already, and am leaning towards Samui but just checking the other options.

    Your May trip sounds amazing!

Koh Lipe looks good, though reaching requires a boat journey after the plane.

We're off to Koh Samui in a couple of weeks....direct flights on Bangkok Air. I was there in 1998; I suspect it has seen major development since then.  A plus is that it's in a different climatic zone....it's dry when Phuket et al  are wet.

I've wanted to go to Koh Lipe for a while actually, but it isn't so easy to get there. I think you have to fly to Hat Yai, then take a mini bus or taxi to the pier which takes 1.5-2 hours, and then a speed boat which is another 1.5-2 hours. Not sure if there is any ferry service. Definitely is on the cards at some point!

Koh Samui is one of my options, but I'll keep doing some research as to the hotels, transport etc. At least there is an airport on the island which makes for easy travelling.

Koh Samed. 3 hours 2500B taxi.  Busy at weekends with Bangkok residents. Very local. No big resorts. Just rent a motorcycle.

Koh Lanta. Fly to Krabi and drive for 1 hr. Bigger island again few resorts. Best to have a car. Amazing sunsets

Thank you! Will add these places on my list to research.

  5. Hi all,

I'm just having a think about my next Thailand holiday and would love spend some days having a relaxing time on an island resort. As Thailand's islands are plentiful, I'm hoping for some recommendations if you have any. Preferably easy to get to (like one flight from Bangkok, or one ferry ride), beach/ocean views (from the hotel), good food nearby etc. Not completely remote, but not too built up either. Not too worried about gay bars or massage parlours as I'm sure there will be options on Grindr. I've already been to Phuket and Koh Larn, so preferably somewhere I haven't been. Or even somewhere coastal, not necessarily an island. If you have any ideas, I would be thankful!

    Cheers!

I've had enjoyable experiences at the Paradise Massage and the Ma Ha Massage on Soi 6 (right side coming from Silom Rd.)

Recommend talking with prospective masseur before committing to avoid disappointment.

If you want your pick of the crop, the early bird gets the worm. Do NOT fret about being awkward or only customer at the time. You'll be in better position to see what guys direct smiles your way. And don't be hesitant to smile back at those who ring your bell.

Thanks for the feedback about Paradise and getting to the bar early - good tips.

I don't think there'll be any boys available at 8pm. Don't they start work at 9?

A dream boy that I'm in regular contact with once told me that he gets to the bar before 8pm when it opens.

I had good experience also at Paradise Massage. With full service (I am top). Tip 1500.

Kon is a muscular versatile Massage boy I can recommend. I tip him 2000 because he is a wonderful bottom who enjoy playing long time...

Another good experience at Paradise, definitely will stop by.

Sometimes, as a top, I envy the bottom sluts like you 😁😁

Ahaha sometimes fantasy is very different to reality, but I will try my best to go ahead with my plans in the limited timeframe! I can top as well, but the majority of guys that I go with seem to want to fuck me (which I don't mind at all tbh).

@ichigo don't forget waiters at Freshboys are also offable (600 baht fee, others 500).

    Ah yep good tip, cheers.

and  hosts in Hot Male beer bar

they are supposed to be  at 9  but some are showing up much , much earlier. I'd definitely have a peek around 8 in most bars.

Last month I offed P from Hot Male and twink Mas from Tawan definitely well before even 8.

Strategy I sometimes employ if I like guy but am busy with somebody else is to reserve  guy for later i.e, I will pick you up at 10. 30 or after the show, if they want off fee to secure guy's off  I pay in advance too.

Good idea to reserve guy for later, I remember reading that in some of your trip reports.

nothing awkward , in every bar and on every day there's always that first customer. He may be alone for 2 minutes or 13 and it's nothing awkward in that as it happens every day

Reader above is very right, early bird catches the worm although there's element of risk with early start - guy may be keen on speeding up encounter in order to return to bar for 2nd chance so make sure to be firm with timeframe if you care.

I think the general consensus is that going to the bar early is totally fine so I will give it a go, who knows, maybe the music will be not so loud whilst there isn't many people around..

I once was the first customer in Screw Boys (currently still closed) and Eros (closed for good) and enjoyed the experience the see the boy arrive and change (that's the important part) under white light, without the boys paying any attention to me. However have to know the bar and get the timing right, in other bars I had a look, no boys, waiter invited me for drink, boys will come soon; no thanks, I will look somewhere else. I made that mistake once, in Chiang Mai about 8 years ago, pay full price for a drink and look at an empty stage for half an hour, slowly realizing my mistake.

Ah yep, getting the timing right is a good tip also.

  7. Since my upcoming trip is only short, I’ve been working on somewhat of an itinerary to make the most of my time (obviously flexible in case I get sidetracked). Just a few questions though:

    1. I know this usually comes down to the individual masseur and situation, but which of the soi 6 massage establishments would full service be likely (if any)? I’ve tried M star and received a particularly non-exciting handjob. Prime I definitely won’t expect anything there but will visit every day anyway because it’s such high quality.

    2. Same as question 1 but in Jomtien complex as I’ve never had a massage there actually. Only on dongtan beach where the masseur actually tried to fuck me right there in public under a towel. Interesting times..

    3. Since time is short, and there are so many dicks to see, I will attempt to off two guys per night which means I’ll need to start early - if I go to the bars at 8pm when they open, will I be the only one there? Or do other people go at that time too? It would just be a bit awkward that’s all lol.

    Thanks fellas.

Ok drama, previously I kind of like hung out with this masseur after he massaged me at Prince. We kind of hit it off well during the massage, made out a lot and had lots of fun. We also went for dinner/shopping next few days, I went clubbing with his friends and I even visited his apartment. And of course we had lots of in bed activities. Well of course I had to head back to my country and while we chatted on line for a while, I subsequently kinda ghosted him.. I mean I was back to reality and while chatting is nice, I mean idk, I didn't see much point ( am i bad =( ). Well I felt kinda bad. When senso was reinstated, I saw his picture on Senso website and I'm like oops.. Can I still go back there? Played a 50-50 chance of him not being there that day but well of course he was. Luckily, i was wearing face mask so i think he didn't recognise me, I hope.

They are human too.. just remember that for next time..

Crossing this roads has never been a problem, even little drunk from bars. Because you always have your boy holding hands and taking care of you to be sure you reach your hotel safely...

In my experience, the best and safest place to cross Surawong is the crosswalk directly in front of Burger King on one side and Shenanigan's and the opposite side (near Patpong 1).  I used this at least twice a day on my last two trips. It's well-lighted and many pedestrians use it.

relax , when comes to worst you can always use stairs leading to and from SalaDaeng station.

I never have problem crossing those two streets and actually have fun diving into all that traffic, skill I acquired in Cairo and polished in Saigon.

right, one just beside 56Suriwong hotel.

On my last trip well past midnight  I saw known boy about to cross it , so I suggested he will go with me. He dumped me saying he is going to dances with his friends.

There's another crosswalk in from of Wall Street building (one that looks like Greek temple and has spacious 7/11 in first, elevated floor, stairs leading to it are known to feature bar boys from time to time and thus may be considers cruisy )

Thanks for the suggestions! I love that we can discuss the most mundane of topics such as crossing the road…

I stayed in bangkok 2 weeks in November and 1 week in December, at the Ibis Style Silom (close to CP Tower, 2 min to go to Silom soi 6 massage shops, 5 min to go to Silom soi 4, great great location).

At Ibis Style, no problem to have joiners, they just ignore what you are doing. And this new hotel is packed with gay tourists, many koreans. Can be cruisy between visiting guests contacting each other on Gindr...

At 2100 bahts per night, it is a great place to go IMO.

Ibis Styles sounds great! But I would imagine crossing Silom Road would be a pain. Which is why I don't stay at the Raya anymore because crossing Surawong road was annoying. First world problems I know...

I will be back again in bangkok next January and plan to go to Pattaya. For my first visit there i checked the Avani Pattaya Resort... a great hotel so close to Boyz Town... but do you know if they charge joiners ??

I've heard differing things about Avani. I've stayed there once before and had a massage guy come to my room but this was during the day, so I am not sure if it would be any different during the night.

Tarntawan and Agate! I'm envious.  They were two of the three hotels we stayed in last month and I'm sure you'll be equally delighted.

If you are interested in swimming, try the smaller of the two pools at Agate. The chances are that you'll be on your own. And take a few minutes to look at the hotel's displays in the corridors. Absolutely fascinating....my partner wouldn't go anywhere without gazing lovingly at the quartz, agate and other precious stones.

Sounds absolutely delightful and I'm looking forward to checking out all the displays!

  13. I’m very excited to be going to Thailand again, in January. The last time I was there was in June/July this year which was the first time after a 2.5 year absence. This trip will only be very short as it will be book ended by family commitments in the Philippines and then work commitments back home.

Thanks to some suggestions here I’ve decided to spend 2 days in Pattaya and 4 days in Bangkok. In Pattaya I originally wanted to stay at Welcome World Beach Resort as I wanted a room with an ocean view, so I messaged them on Line to check what their joiner policy was, but they didn’t get back to me for nearly 2 days so I booked other accommodation in the meantime. Turns out they charge 800 baht for joiners which I’m not really prepared to pay. I ended up booking at the Agate which I have not stayed at before but seems to be positively reviewed. I can just go to the beach during the day.

The last time I was in Jomtien I didn’t have the best time as I was a little unprepared as to how the host bars work, so I’ll read up on that. There are also the apps, which I found to be successful as I met a bar boy there and subsequently offed him 3 times.

As for Bangkok, I’ve booked at the Tarntawan as I’ve stayed there before and I’ve found it comfortable and affordable, and I do like the security aspect that the guys have to leave their ID at the door/reception.

It’s only a short trip so I plan to fit in as much as I can (might have to start early and have 2 guys per night lol), but I am very much looking forward to it. Trip report to come!

For me, arrival time decides if I would start in Bangkok or Pattaya.

Arrival before noon : I would prefer to start in Pattaya

Arrival in the afternoon : I start in Bangkok

I'll be arriving at around 11am, so starting in Pattaya does seem like a good choice.

I agree with that. I'm no lover of BKK but I find the journey from the airport into the city -traffic notwithstanding- nothing less than thrilling, even if it can be frustrating.

I usually just take a combination of ARL/MRT/walk or ARL/BTS/walk. Rolling a suitcase from Silom or Sala Daeng station is always a fun time lol.

To answer, what do you like....sounds like the beach. But you like massages, restaurants, go-go bars, host bars, twinks or masculine, you top or bottom, sky bars, shopping....etc...?

Yes to all of the above! Massages - yes, restaurants - yes, gogo/host bars - gogo preferred but host can do also, twinks/masculine - I like both, but at the end of the day I will usually go with whoever has the nicest face (amongst other things), sky bars - they are nice, but not too fussed, shopping - I'm not a big shopper like I used to be but I like both malls and markets.

    21 hours ago, vinapu said:

less then 4 days - Bangkok

    4 days - 2 here and 2 there

5 -7 days , 2 Pattaya, rest in BKK in any order

Why I answered that way? Because it's roughly  what I did on my last trip ( report  started , rest to follow ) 1st leg 1 day - BKK, 2nd leg 8 days -3 BKK, 1 Pattaya, 4 days BKK, 3rd leg 4 days - 2 Pattaya and 2 BKK.

I like the way you divided it up - I'll be there for 6 days, so now I'm actually thinking 2 in Pattaya and 4 in Bangkok rather than 3 and 3, thanks for the suggestion!. Bangkok is my favourite but I would like a bit of a beach getaway too.

    18 hours ago, peterholland said:

Yes, I did stay in Welcome world beach resort. It is a nice hotel and the more expensive rooms have seaview. But..... they make a problem with joiners, if they are not Thai. If they have f.e an overstay, they will not be allowed. For that reason last november I changed to Agate hotel in de Jomtien complex. No seaview but a very friendly joiner policy. They make not a problem at all. And the rooms are ok!

Ah this is what I did not quite think about! Thank you for alerting me to this as it is quite an important factor in deciding where to stay!

  15. And just to hijack my own thread, if one was to spend a short amount of time in Thailand, would you prefer:

    1. Bangkok then Pattaya

    2. Pattaya then Bangkok

    3. Just Bangkok.

Can't really decide, all I have booked is the flight in and out of BKK and they are at reasonable times.
