I don't know any of the 3 star hotels that have what I would call a good breakfast. These hotels mostly cater for Taiwanese and so best to look at a good western chain hotel. But I know none near Ximending. @a447 recommends the Westgate. Just looking at the photos of the dining area, it seems quite small and I suspect - and I hope @a447 will correct me if I am wrong - that the breakfast will not be similar to a tradional western breakfast, even though it has an egg station.

Wth comfort and a hearty breakfast as essentials, I would certainly give up the idea of staying in Ximending and recommend the Courtyard Downtown Hotel. You will absolutely adore the breakfast!!

At tripadvisor.com, the Dandy Daan rates higher than the Courtyard, and many comment on the good breakfast. Still contemplating this one.

  2. Is Ambiance Hotel still okay as a place to stay? I used to like it and stayed there several times.

As for the old beach, there was once a pedophile section. I only realized this as I was walking by and a young boy was on the lap of an old man asking him if he wanted to fuck. You don't see that anymore, which is a good thing!

You do not need to be "found innocent". The basis of UK law is a presumption of innocence or "Innocent until proven guilty". It's only in the media and social media where guilt is assumed based on what sells papers or clicks.

Just so I am clear, I understand a not guilty verdict. The jury decided that the evidence to convict Spacey could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. That doesn't mean they think Spacey didn't do it, it just wasn't proven. I have no idea what they think, but Spacey being acquitted is not Spacey being cleared.

  4. I loved the Millenium Hilton hotel on the Chao Praya river in Bangkok. Maybe a few nights there enjoying the river and its surroundings would be a good diversion. I could watch the boat traffic for hours.

Maybe Ayutthaya? I think it's a pretty easy train ride from BKK.

Sukhothai is also nice but I think Bangkok Airways still has a monopoly on flights.

Those are both historic places if you like old ruins. What sorts of things are you interested in doing? Hua Hin is a nice beach town not too far from Bangkok. Khao Yai is nice if you're looking for nature.

Forgot to mention that I have been to Ayutthaya...as well as River Kwai. Hua Hin sounds promising...

  6. Sure, I know it has been discussed before, but I would like to break up my Bangkok stay by taking a long weekend to see somewhere else. Convenience is a factor. Pattaya is one possibility, but I have been there so many times and find it tacky. What other possibilities exist? I have been to Chaing Mai and Phuket. Any ideas? Not sure that attractive guys will be a big attraction...

It was only 3 denarii in ancient Athens.

It was different baht and different dollar. Nobody says prices, went down, specially in nominal but when compared to other prices we are getting different picture. Not that long ago Foodland was offering breakfast for 65, now it, s 93

No matter the price, after reading about the joy of cashew chicken at Foodland, I am going to try it on my next visit. I will ask for the Vinapu special!

Pick somewhere close to the BTS or MRT for easy travel if you want to go shopping on Sukhumvit.

The Crowne Plaza Lumpini is well located and I always found it very comfortable.

I stayed at the Crowne Plaza early on.  I can't remember what it was called then. But the elevators had no A/C, which made for some warm rides.
