Thanks for that....I hadn't bothered to check. I'll be pleased if EVA flights are better value-they usually are- because I'm flying  BR 68 to BKK tomorrow. The cost of my Elite ticket was over £1000, the highest I've ever paid . That's more than  £100  than my May ticket and  my January 2020 one. I put it down to the Brexit pound. I enjoy EVA privileges- most significantly lounge access- and so I'll remain loyal.

EVA is my preferred airline out of the 3 who fly non stop from LHR, they just get on with it without a fuss / drama and always very efficient...Christmas / NY time it will be the usual 'lucky dip' of who I can find for half sensible money, but the rest of year EVA all the way if I have the choice.

True...even BA is offering cheap flights (direct) from London. Despite the strikes.

I looked at some of the BA direct flights for my last trip, they did look good value but only annoyance was they added a fairly noticeable charge for putting bags in the hold, just felt like they were trying to artificially suppress the price you see initially as most people would put 1 big bag in the hold on a long haul. flight..in the end when you added in the baggage costs they were on a par with EVA so I just booked with EVA again.

The hotels look attractive and well-priced. Gay-friendly? visitors welcome?

I stayed in an AirBNB condo which was great, cost wise probably 30% less than the same size condo in BKK...but as we all know to our cost, renting AirBNB in BKK has shot up a lot the last 2-3 years, I just checked with the owner beforehand that my 'guide' would be hanging out with me.

I believe other members have stayed in hotels in Hanoi and might be able to add to this.

    Great report !

Except the on-line apps any gay scene at Hanoi ?

    Thank you!

There is not an obvious gay scene in the same way as BKK, but my feeling was there's definitely an underground scene as quite a few normal (horny) non MB guys plus massage guys etc were messaging me, but my dear guide kept me too busy.  Crazy the amount of cute guys everywhere you looked though, I took 'B' for a haircut on that first night (forgot to mention it above) and the stylist was ridiculously cute.

I think in the big cities like Hanoi & HCM things are steadily changing though and they're becoming more open, just takes time...plus their culture in the North has a lot more Roman Catholics guys than say Thai / Laos with Buddhists and that plays a big part too.

I wonder if anyone here recalls who #45 at Lucky Boys is. On my previous visit, he got my attention, but I ended up not being able to have any useful conversation with him (because of a mamasan's interruption). I thought he looked quite cute, with a baby face and toned to muscular smooth body. If I remember correctly, he is from Vietnam.

How recently was your visit ?  in the last month or so...or longer?  The guys numbers tend to vary as they go home for a bit & then come back.

thank you for  a great and entertaining report, I see now  need to return to Vietnam after quite an absence

Thank you, your very welcome...tbh I think your reports are some of the most enjoyable on the forum so that's much appreciated...if you can I'd highly recommend a visit, especially with company, although I did notice that Hornet was fairly active in Hanoi too so plenty of fun to be had.  I will try to add some more pics in the next post with the last couple of days there.

I considered to book their Exec. room but since I almost don't drink alcohol it's a waste of money however I booked their upgrade Delux room.

I think you'll be fine, Furama is a nice hotel, many happy memories there!

Its also not far from Chong Nonsi BTS if you want to get yourself around during the day if traffics heavy...good location imho.

Lovely report . Your adventures approved that the bad reputation of the Viet boys in this forum is not correct .

Thank you, I think there's a lot of good guys in the Viet community if you take the time to get to know them...I have had a few 'so so' experiences with other guys in the past also (usually younger / less experienced ones who are new to BKK) as you'll see later...but generally I consider myself lucky to know them and enjoy hanging out with them.

Alex thanks for the report. As I have the advantage of getting the daily reports of your trip, it’s fun to read the book version.

Paul your very welcome, tbh I think you have the patience of a saint putting up with my LINE ramblings at times, funnily enough I'm reading back thru the old notes using them to assemble this report though.

I Residence is in a great location .I booked the Furama not far from this hotel mainly because it's joiners friendly , has a rooftop pool ,  spacious rooms on reasonable price and generous breakfast bufet. Hope it will be fine .

Furama Silom is a good hotel IMHO but worth paying a smidge more for the Exec rooms as just nicely turned out (love the glass walled bathrooms & shower) plus you get a few nice freebie extras like access to a small / private dining snack area that serves free drinks late in the afternoon (I got a bit too attached to their Gin supply).  They've never even looked up at reception when I've come home with a guy so think you'll be happy.

Raya also gets my vote, as the Grand Deluxe rooms with showers are lovely and super convenient for Patpong, glass walled bathrooms again make things interesting at playtime.

Bandara Suites also have some very nice Suites at reasonable rates that are about 55sqm with separate Sleeping & Living areas, very handy when your LT over-night is still snoozing, in truth the Suites are more like a Serviced Apartment as have small kitchenette and full sized fridge / freezer, upper floors have good views of BKK too, I'd suggest asking for a room with an 'L shaped' sofa though as more sociable at playtime.

  11. Great report...please keep the posts coming!

The Freshboys 2 (patpong) waiters are very cute, sexy & funny...I was sorely tempted several times but got lured away by a couple of my regulars on stage!

  12. I generally use cash and bring enough from UK to last as long as poss...and / or as long as feel safe carrying it around if travelling, but I did have to use a card 1x last year in Screwboys when I'd hit the ATM limit that particular day (UK banks are lower than some other countries) & was in a semi blind (horny) panic to off someone...just used a credit card that had a lower value on it and I 'think' they went next door and got the bill paid at Pavilion Place, was no issue at all...I do recall there was a minimum amount they could charge though as they gave me some bhat back.

  13. Another vote for 'The Raya' from me...had 3 nights there just before heading home and thoroughly enjoyed it, nice chilled out place with smart / tidy rooms & friendly staff...my thanks to ColmX for the advice (only took me about 3 years to listen....lol)
