This false information. Please refrain from posting false information about such a serious situation as global health pandemic.

  • I am worried about COVID-19 impacting a trip I have scheduled or plan to schedule. Should I buy an Allianz travel protection plan to cover me in case COVID-19 impacts my trip?

  • No. COVID-19 is a known and rapidly-evolving global pandemic that is impacting travel worldwide, with continued spread and impacts expected.  Our travel protection plans do not generally cover losses directly or indirectly related to known, foreseeable, or expected events, epidemics, government prohibitions, warnings, or travel advisories, or fear of travel. As such, we recommend that you do NOT purchase our products to insure you against any such losses.”

The limited cases where emergency medical care or trip cancellation due to COVID will be covered under their standard policies only apply to policies issued BEFORE the pandemic began. Anything purchased after that, you are at great risk of Bring only partially covered or not being covered at all.

@SolaceSoul is absolutely correct.

I have had an annual policy for global travel, which is underwritten by Allianz for many years. I regard it as a great bargain for an insurance product. My policy expires at the end of the year and it does cover me for Covid-19 among other things. An old friend of mine has the same type of policy but his just expired: the renewed policy specifically excludes costs related to Covid-19, and the premium he has to pay for the policy has doubled.

https://www.allianztravelinsurance.com/coverage-alerts/2019-novel-coronavirus.htm As I read this they are covering Covid-19 but are telling not to buy it for just that reason.

https://about.geo-blue.com/crisisalert/covid19-members And GeoBlue may be extending some coverage.

I have a longterm plan with GeoBlue for my USA medical and world travel.

Don't worry about responding to me  SolaceSoul because I deleted my account. After 10 years of reading and responding to this forum my time is up. I have never met one person on this forum I would even want to have a beer with. Plus I voted for Donald Trump will vote for him again. Also I would vote for Bolsonaro if I could. Have great live and happy travel to Brazil.

I have Allianz. You need to review a few factors: your coverage end date (defined, versus annual rollover as characteristic with a credit card), whether the policy has exclusion options based on events that occur during the policy cycle (most have invoked this with the pandemic), the guidance that insurers utilize to justify exclusions (some policies will backpedal or adjust exclusions if your nation formally lifts a pandemic travel advisory), and any ongoing trip that commenced prior to the exclusion date (without returning to home base and subject to the terms of single trip duration parameters) versus a trip that departs following the defined exclusion.

I have a 30-day plan that allows unlimited consecutive trip coverage but I must have returned home each time to reset the period. The latest I could have had the one-month coverage in pandemic context would have been 30 days from March 12th. Departing on March 13th would have left me out in the cold because it would have been up to me to follow the news media or double-check for myself, given that the insurer did not send a notification.

Also consider this: Let’s say you agree to risk travelling and acquiring SARS-CoV-2, without pandemic coverage, banking on asymptomatic or mild symptomatology that does not necessitate incurring medical expenses, but your infection and/or contagion status warrants quarantine or excludes the prerogative of returning home on your set date. If your rebooked return date surpasses the duration of insurance (eg, one month) you are uncovered for all non-Covid medical emergencies for which you have insurance in the first place. In this case it is advisable to supplement your plan with a trip-specific policy that extends somewhat beyond return date.

Good riddance. In ten years you seem to have made only 36 contributions to the site and we should be thankful that there weren't more. To support Bolsonaro you join in the responsibility for the deaths of multitudes of Brazilians.

As a newer member of this platform I can't understand why the need for such snarky comments when someone does post.

So far I've only  been comfortable posting something that is more informative such as replying to a question being asked.

I really can't imagine giving my opinion on anything and getting the rude and sarcastic commentary.

I thought this would be a great place to share experiences and learn from others but it's definitely not.

Take it with a grain of salt.....he qualified his reply with "Plus I voted for Donald Trump will vote for him again"...... enough said.

This morning I read somewhere in the WaPo that Europe is not going to ban American travelers, which sounds counterintuitive. I cannot find where I read it.

Europe will continue banning American travellers after July 1st (as well as people from Russia, Brazil, etc.)

In some (many) cases people do share experiences on this forum. As everywhere some people only share nasty comments !

Europe doesn't have a common exterior border so every country can admit who they want, even into the Schengen area unless borders are put up. The US and Europe have about the same numbers over 3 months overall with each having huge spikes. Europe is totally coming out of lockdown and bars and beaches are packed more than the US with a huge uptick coming there. The embarrassment for the EU will be if EU countries keep banning Swedes and Belgians. Germany is taking over the EU presidency from Croatia soon and lets see if Merkel is willing to foot the cost for Spain, Greece, etc going bankrupt excluding the top tourists.

As for updated recent data on epidemy, they are below

"Countries on the E.U. draft lists have been selected as safe based on a combination of epidemiological criteria. The benchmark is the E.U. average number of new infections — over the past 14 days — per 100,000 people, which is currently 16 for the bloc. The comparable number for the United States is 107, while Brazil’s is 190 and Russia’s is 80, according to a Times database".

But finding (and actually implementing) an agreement on such a subject is not ezsy for EU

"Once diplomats agree on a final list, it will be presented as a recommendation early next week before July 1. The E.U. can’t force members to adopt it, but European officials warn that failure of any of the 27 members to stick to it could lead to the reintroduction of borders within the bloc".

No if they want to stay in the EU...

No. Our death rate is going down @30% every 14 days while theirs is increasing even though the US case rate is going up a lot. So far that case uptick hasn't increased deaths. Europe is actually about to have a huge uptick in cases as they open everything at once. People are packing like sardines in bars, nightclubs, and beaches. Even the sex suanas opened this week.

I'm not sure how reliable this data is, since governments are playing a lot of politics with the numbers they are reporting.

But as a counter point this is the plot from John Hopkins of the currently most affected countries.

Personally, I think we're all still in the middle of this mess, and trying to pretend that any of us are safe is bullshit.

Places like China, N.Korea, and even Germany are "safer" because they act in a way that would never be allowed here. Even in Germany where low-income projects get infested they fence the building off and don't allow residents out. Can you imagine doing that to a low-income project here?

Data keeps coming and I am more and more canceling any fantasies of traveling until there is a vaccine or a treatment. Last data seems to show that younger people are ignoring protocol and the infection is rampant in those younger than 30, which is the pool where I fish.

I thought that you had already canceled those fantasies.

Like the Phoenix, they are always reborn. :)

So far, I had cancelled this July's fantasies and had not set the vaccine as a pre-condition to traveling. Not only traveling, I am just slowly embracing a long season of locking myself down beyond the opening phase in my city. I am still not sure what I am going to do about sex. The last 4 months I hooked up only once, and I think I am just fully switching to porn. I am not sure. I  am just extremely concerned at the data I am reading.

My school is right now talking about a hybrid virtual/presential model for next school year, and in that case I would have to leave home every day. I am aware that some teacher unions are resisting the opening, but I would rather take it as our civil duty.

The rule used by Europe to put countries in the list of authorized countries  is "less than 16 new cases of covid-19 per 100.000 citizens in the last 14 days". They plan to revisit the list regularly.

In many countries, bars, restaurants and beaches are not crowded at all. Nightclubs are closed in most European countries, even in Ibiza ! Sex saunas are open but almost noone is going there. Some pics of overpopulated places (such as beaches in UK eg Bournemouth last week end or Fete de la Musique in France) were visible on internet, but it is not the general situation at all.
