I'm thinking about accommodation for the next visit to Pattaya. Perhaps I'll return to The Ambience, as their 1114 baht/night rooms are OK. On the previous stay there (three years ago), the rooms were nice & were also well cleaned. What else do people recommend ? Criteria: About 1100 a night or less Reasonable room, good cleaning regime, WiFi Close to Boystown or Sunnee

For travel LHR==>BKK in Dec 2009, I made my bookings with EVA in early September, with Premium economy on the outbound leg for what's basically an Economy price (~£550). This year, I watched prices from August until booking in late September. Prices were maybe £150 higher (some due to taxation). If the fare history charts are reliable, I would have had to book in July to get anywhere near last years price on a direct flight. There were no premium economy offers. Also, by the time I booked, the preferred return Eva flight on 3 Jan was already sold out (with both EVA and the travel agents). So I booked economy at £704, returning a couple of days earlier. Now abou…

Hi fellas, Its been a moment since I've posted here. I'm back stateside, and have made plans to meet friends in BKK during winter break. I've been to Thailand on numerous ocassion but never during December (which as I recall is Hi Season), so my question is how different are Pattaya and Phuket during Christmastime. Are the bars and clubs still busy? How are the beaches? Hotels? If this have already been asked,my apologies. But thanks for any information you can or are willing to share. Thanks. BLK

Pattaya Players (home of Pattaya's Professional Amateurs) is proud to announce its third annual Horseshoe Point Haunted Halloween event on Saturday, October 30, 2010. The highlight of this year's ghostly gathering will be the all-new "Haunted Experience" -- an eight station tour that takes spectators on a spooky journey through campfire ghost tales, demented criminals, creepy crawlies, paranormal poltergeists, haunted graveyards, witches' incantations and much, much more! Every participant of the "Haunted Experience" will receive a special "haunt pack" for tracking their survival rate on each of the stations. If you successfully survive each of the eight hauntings, you wi…

I have been reading reports of dreadful flooding in many parts of Thailand. This presumably means the water in the Chao Phraya is racing towards Bangkok. Anyone know if there has been flooding in Bangkok?

The number of first-class cabins is shrinking. A small but growing list of airlines are eliminating or reducing rows in the most expensive part of their aircraft as customers increasingly look for cheaper seats. The global slowdown has put a damper on first-class flying as fewer corporate travelers can afford $15,000 seats. Premium traffic on international flights — which includes business and first class — fell 16% in 2009, the International Air Transport Association says. While demand has improved this year, premium traffic in August was still 11% down from the pre-downturn size in early 2008, it says. Here's what's going on: • AirTran (AAI), …

The longest journey by a Tuk Tuk was 37,410 km (23,245 miles) and was completed by Susi Bemsel and Daniel Snaider (both Germany) from Bangkok, Thailand to Eichstätt, Germany, between 8 February and 17 December 2005. What an amazing accomplishment! They even made it into the Guinness Book of World Records for this. I doubt that anyone in their right mind would ever attempt to break such a record. I am sure some nut will attempt it to break it one day and I wish them great luck!

I felt a little hard done by last night after having offed a boy we took a whole 12 minutes to have sex. On par with the many Russians I usually prefer. We had agreed in the bar before we left that he would get 100 Baht a minute for the sex act and so I had to scramble to find the extra money as I only allowed for the average. I was delighted that he proffered the condom as I find that about 8 out of 10 Thai boys use them; higher even than my Russian conquests. I was wondering if any other contributors here have had such a long sex session with a Thai guy or am I setting a record? I know I beat the average from info taken from a year 2000 survey: According …

http://bangkokpost.com/news/local/194154/baht-soars-against-greenback In case you missed it, this morning there is interesting article in Bangkok Post regarding the rise of the Thai Baht to the US dollar. Also, a very good graph showing other asian currencies.

The overwhelming fact of the global currency system is that America needs a much weaker dollar to bring its economy back into kilter and avoid slow ruin, yet the rest of the world cannot easily handle the consequences of such a wrenching adjustment. There is not enough demand to go around. Asian investment in plant has run ahead of Western ability to consume. The debt-strapped households of Middle America, or Britain and Spain, can no longer hold up the dysfunctional edifice. Asians must take over, or it will come down on their own heads. The countries actively intervening in exchange markets to suppress their currencies

I just noticed that Baht riched 30.22 per US dollar. This is the highest level since 1997 crisis. While the reasons may be complicated , one component is obvious: general weakness of US dollar. Economically and politically speaking, the situation in US continues rapidly deteriorate. November elections, in my opinion, will be the last possibility to stop the slide to abyss. I at least hope that everybody will consider to vote.
