This is clearly a day for 'entertainment' news. For those who have not seen 'The Lion King', one of the most original, inventive and stunning musicals around, I just noticed it will be playing at The Sands in Singapore for 3 months from 3rd March. Disney has only brought the show once before to Asia when it played in Shanghai (I don't count the Japanese and Korean language productions in those particular countries). Its so expensive, the chances of its playing in other cities in South East Asia in future are virtually zero. So, if you want to see it or give the bf a very special treat, check out - http://www.marinabaysands.com/Entertainment/The_Lion_King.aspx

http://www.guardian.co.uk/stage/2011/jan/26/spider-man-musical That cartoon captures what all New York has been talking about for months. The musical based on the Spiderman comics with music by U2’s Bono and The Edge has been in development for about 9 years when the producers got the theatrical rights. Julie Taymor, the brilliant director of The Lion King musical, was hired and work started on weaving a web of magic and illusion that would have audiences gasping in awe. Unfortunately, it has been the cast that has been gasping. The aerial effects are apparently as dazzling as anything in a Cirque du Soleil Las Vegas show. But the Las Vegas theatres were specially…

  6. When I first started visiting Pattaya, I was always entertained with great shows and full crowds. It was not often that I was in Throb/Splash that there wasn't a full crowd. I have been in the Boyztown area for several nights this week as I had a friend visiting from USA and he wanted to see the gogo boys there and he always enjoyed the shows. However, every show I saw was a bore. No enthusiasm. No sexy guys. No creativity. What happened to all the great shows in this area?

I have noticed the new signalized pedestrian crossing on 2nd Road seem to be very effective. If someone activates the light and is in the cross walk the motorists do stop and even wait for the green before proceeding. Also noticed that some peds are too ignorant, stupid or lazy to walk a short distance to safetly cross at these signals. Another side benefit is these light cause gaps in the traffic flow up line which makes it easier for motorists to enter into the traffic flow from side streets.

A friend and I went to Eros last night. We were surprised to see that it had been remodeled. In addition to the stage that was in the middle of the room, 5 small round stages have not been placed around the main stages. It is a very comfortable bar. They only have a few dancers some nights. Other nights they have had many dancing. The music is NOT loud and the bar has good air conditioning. Drinks are reasonably priced at 89 (soft drinks) and 99 baht (alcohol). I think it is worth a visit.

Don the driving force behind Pattaya Street kids met Pod who was sleeping under the Pattaya wharf at 11 years , no family nowhere to go. He married in 2009 and now has a family. A beautiful story of what can be done with photos has just been posted to GTT . This link details one mans support and demonstratesw what can be achieved if you put your heart into it. It is a very heartwarming story that began with Pod and now includes dozens if not hundreds of orphans or families living in slums in Pattaya. You will feel very glad you took a moment to read this page. http://pattayastreetkids.homestead.com/Pod_update_may_2009.html

Thai Airways has just emailed its FF members with a circular with a link to the following page http://www.thailandm...n=WellnessnSpa. The prices look expensive. Maybe no one of this forum would be interested, but dental surgery is a different matter. Two years ago a friend of mine flew to Pattaya seeking a dental inplant. I started a thread on Sawatdee which got sidetracked as usual, and I ended up answering only PMs on his treatment. Not only was his inplant less than 25% what he would cost him at home, but even his dentist grudgingly admitted it was an excellent job. Since then by word of mouth only, 5 people where he works and a number of his coll…

I’m going to start the controversy. The shootings in Tucson reinforce my belief that the second amendment of the United States Constitution is an historical dinosaur that ought to go the way of all dinosaurs. I can see no reason why private citizens should have the right to bear arms as they do in the USA. I also do not believe that any provision in a Constitution or piece of legislation in 1791 is necessarily applicable in 2011. To suggest that is virtually to support the claims of those who believe that what is written in the Bible, the Koran and other religious texts are as precisely valid today as they were when written. I know little about the history of the seco…

I have wanted to test a colonic detox spa ever since Jack from Oud's cafe told me he has spent some time in one. I have not made any appointments at a place in fear of not liking the treatment. When I found a place in Pattaya that offers one day or 1/2 day or just one session colonics, I gave them a try. The place is located in the Fairtex Center at the beginning of 2nd Road. Fairtex is an amazing gym with Muay Thai training, swimming pool, etc. The sauna is called Rasayana and it is very clean and well maintained. The staff is great and the lady that worked with me on my colonic was profession and helpful. The room was nice and they have a full menu of s…

The Bangkok Post today has a long article on the tourism figures for 2010. Numbers from China were up by 45% to 1.127 million, from South Korea 43% to .887 million, and from India 28% to .791 million. A staggering 57 million Chinese are expected to travel outside mainland China this year, and the TAT estimates that of these 1.3 million will come to Thailand. Why the increase should be less than half of that for 2010, it does not say. http://www.bangkokpost.com/travel/news/217812/thailand-eyes-its-share-of-ever-growing-number-of-chinese-tourists 150 charter flights in addition to regular services? Hope no-one is still looking for hotel rooms in Phuket early next …

  15. A zookeeper was shot and killed as he was leaving work. An antigovernment demonstrator who sought shelter in a Buddhist temple was shot five times but lived, possibly because a coin in his satchel deflected a bullet. A soldier who rushed to help a fallen comrade after an explosion suffered severe brain damage from a second blast. The tales of the dead and wounded from the political violence last year in Bangkok could fill volumes. But they are not filling case dockets in the Thai courts. Eight months after troops swept through Bangkok and dislodged protesters from their barricaded encampment, investigations into who was responsible for about 90 deaths and nearly 2…

The Red Shirts have promised to hold rallies twice a month in Bangkok. The above is today's protest procession on Ratchadamri Road, the second for January 2011. They are heading to the Democracy Monument where I suppose the main rally will be held this evening. The Red Shirts started forming at Rachatprasong intersection in the forenoon and the procession began around noon. This picture was taken three hours later, and as you can see, vehicles filled with Red Shirts supporters were still flowing through.

My friend who is planning his first trip to Thailand showed me something I had not seen in over 60 visits A website that you can select your massage boy from his photo or by age, chest size, waist size, weight but not buy sexuality. The website has so many boys and places and the price lists goes from reasonable to close to prices here at home. First he went to http://www.thaimassa...home/search.php He put in age 20 - 22 and got 128 boys with pics and phone numbers. It looks like at least 24 commercial massages parlour are involved. For those who are price concious it might be a turnoff. I dont know if the boys tip is extra. But when you are at home and…

Well, the location is fantastic. There is no better place to sit and have drinks and watch the boys go by on this soi. I ordered the beef stroganoff. To say it was mediocre is an understatement. I should know better than to get a beef dish in an inexpensive place in Thailand. It was not a good dish. I then ordered a desert and it was a similar experience to the main dish. While I did not enjoy either dish, I did enjoy the view. The place has the perfect place to sit and watch. It is a people watching heaven.
