  1. Reading that some foreign news outlets are calling the "protest" a WAR ZONE or a CIVIL WAR, I was wondering what you might do. I never made a poll so see if this works.

I've recently run into a few fellow farang who are in real financial distress. I'm curious, if worse came to worse, how little money could you live on here and survive. I'm not asking how much you'd need to live well, quite the opposite. What is the minimum you'd need and how would you budget it?

The survey covers 214 cities across five continents and measures the comparative cost of over 200 items in each location, including housing, transport, food, clothing, household goods and entertainment. New York is used as the base city for the index and all cities are compared against New York. The cost of housing – often the biggest expense for expats - plays an important part in determining where cities are ranked. http://www.guardian....ty-costs-living

I have just returned from dining at the relatively new Montecristo restaurant on Soi Day Night. I won't complain about the 390 baht set menu (salad, chicken breast and desert) even though it seemed pretty expensive for what you got. Nor will I complain about the 25 minutes it took to get our bill after finishing eating - these things happen in the best of restaurants. However, I am still irked at being charged 80 baht for a small plastic bottle of water. I think that sets a new record for gouging. Who checks the pricing on water when eating at a middle of the road restaurant.

Living here, there are many items for an I Don't Get It list. I don't want to provide a thread for a bitch fest or pet peeves, but truly "I Don't Get It". Let me start off with a couple. + I've noticed that most magazines sold at stores have covers written entirely in English. Similarly, UBC magazine presents headlines for synopses of upcoming shows in English. But, the content of both is in Thai. What's the point of that? Thais aren't going to be attracted to a medium whose cover they can't read and farang aren't gong to understand what any of the stories are about. + I've also been mystified why cities, corporations, and even small businesses don't take t…

I can't access the SGT board. It says the account is suspended. That may mean the hosting has not been paid and as soon as they pay, the board will be live again. This does not look like it is a problem with the government censoring the board. It seems to be more of an account issue with their hosting company.

Welcome once again to my "I Don't Get It" list. Over the past few months there have been news reports quite often about Russian couples having sex at night on the beach, without regard to Thai laws, customs, or even whether they are drawing a crowd. WHY? Something is wrong with their hotel rooms? Are they just clueless? Does this sort of thing go on as a matter of routine in Russia? If yes, where's the gay beaches . . . ? The following appears in the PATTAYA DAILY NEWS: for photos, see: http://www.pattayadailynews.com/en/2010/03/17/russian-couple-caught-fornicating-on-a-pattaya-beach _____ Russian Couple Caught Fornicating On A Pattaya Beach Anothe…

Okay, the farangs bought the boy a drink but could you imagine when you were 18 or 20, if a complete stranger asked you such personal questions and if the stranger was someone you could not even conceive of wanting to be intimidate with.. 2- It is perfectly ok to fondle a bar boy you met seconds ago without asking or looking for permission..Can you imagine what would happen in the West.. But, hey, I am going to buy him a drink and he likes it..And , I am not really taking advantage of the situation and being abusiv…

Haven't seen mention of them in any forum, and no doubt they will be switched on with no explanation of what to do to either pedestrian or driver! Sit back and watch the mayhem ;-)

This weekend there are two shows at Queen Sirikit Center in Bangkok. One is a Travel Fair sponsored by the Bangkok Post and the other is a Discount Home Appliance show sponsored by Homeworks. Neither is worth the time it takes to get there. The Travel Fair booths are 99% Bangkok hotels trying to get someone into them at no real discount. The Homeworks show is even more of a waste of time. No savings to be had. Items show a price and then another "mark down" price. What a joke. The discount price is actually the usual price one will pay for these items at any place in BKK. Really pissed me off that I took the time to go to these shows.

Was praised as an alternative to DJ-station, now that Lang Suan bars are closed. But without the cumbersome things DJ is also known for. The old house were FAKE was is now a more quiet cafe-doing wine specials. This might appeal to some of you to check it out. Also new in that area is G-zone. I have a sweet tooth. The BF does not. But, I got him to help me with some Rice Krispy Treats today and he loved the taste. All the ingredients are in Pattaya. Heat 2 sticks butter Mix in 3 bags of Marshmellows until most are melted. 1/2 jar of Peanut Butter and mix this in until it is mixed really well Put in 2 small boxes of Rice Krispy Cereal. Stir and put in a pan to cool. Great a glass of Milk. Think about your childhood. I plan on bringing a pan to Salt and Pepper for a late lunch desert treat. Tomorrow if anyone sees me, ask for a taste.
