Tonight, several of the bars were closed as there were reports of a possible police raid. Some bars did not have the staff to remain open. The ones that did, the results were really low numbers of dancers. I only stay till around 11 and the raid on the bars did not happen while I was there but they did come and pick up a truckload of street kids. The streets were quiet and I was asked for beer by at least 30 guys tonight. For the past few nights, the Birdcage bar has been closed. Recently, rumors were rampant about the imminent demise of the Birdcage. I haven't heard anything. I'm wondering if anyone knows whether the closings over the past few nights is something temporary or whether the Birdcage has passed into history.

The former Kaos is up for sale. A sign was posted tonight for anyone interested. With the Birdcage going under and now this, it seems like hard times for the bars here. I was in Pattayland Soi 3 last night and the bars that are closed really does take a toll on the way the place looks. I had coffee with a lovely gentleman tonight (perhaps the most in the know guy in all of Thailand) and he kept me up to date with all the new closings in town.
