The government plans to launch the bidding for the country's first high-speed train route linking Bangkok with Chiang Mai by this September. The train will take just three hours to reach its destination. ...... Construction of the first high-speed train line is expected to begin early next year and the first section of it from Bangkok to Phitsanulok should be completed between 2018 and 2019. About 80kms north of Chiang Mai, Pai is one of the places on my list to visit in Thailand. There’s a short recommendation today in The Observer about the bungalow accommodations at Bueng Pai Farm on the outskirts of town. Had dinner last night with a visiting friend at Uncle John’s, a simply furnished Italian restaurant just off Suanphlu at Soi 8. Seems the owner used to be a chef in one of the top 5-star hotels, and this showed in the quality of the meal. It was quite excellent. Not cheap but at Bt. 1,800 total for 3 courses each including a carafe of very decent wine, we thought it good value. There are actually two ‘Uncle Johns just a few meters apart. The first one you come to (on the left coming from Suanphlu) has only stools and long tables, but I am told the food is equally good, only cheaper.

I dont wish to sound like a "cheap charlie" but do bars give out free condoms via the Take Care Charity? Sometimes I have boys turn up via Gayromeo without condoms,so have to use a packet i have bought from seven eleven , Condoms are not cheap ,45 baht for 3. Now if I off a boy from a bar I ask him if he has condoms with him . Can I ask if you buy your condoms or do you get them free via bars? Even though I am usually disappointed I set out to check out Sunee tonight. Stopped at Oud's Beer Bar for an hour of conversation at 915pm. Many of the Beer Bars had a fair amount of customers. Even Corner bar had 6 customers which is the most that have been in there for over a year. Stopped at Krazy Dragon first. They had 8 boys and maybe 6 customers at 1030pm. Playing some sort of disgusting techno music which would have driven me out even if they had some Hot Boys which they did not. I flew into Udon Thani via Thai Airways, arriving about 1900 hours. Larger airport than I would have expected. I had pre-arranged a rental car with Lek Car Rental. Due to the holiday, it was 1,950 baht per day for a Mitsubishi Triton Plus (pickup truck with double cab), plus a 2000 baht deposit. Done walk around tonight of bars in Sunee,heard some reviews of C.....bar,this is in a small soi that runs pararell to Colonial. Youngish farang owner with his Thai boyfriend ,a few boys no oil paintings but pleasant enough to sit with. The only thing I found off putting was the owner pushing drinks on me, I felt guilty to sip it. I dont mind paying for a drink but I wasnt aware there was a time limit per drink. I certainly couldnt drink any faster. I counted only 1 other farang in there . The Colonial also looked busy as did the Sky Bar ,the Sky bar 75 baht beer good value,great host. I did not go into Krazy like I planned to do.

Normally I leave these type of scoops to others, but my understanding is that the Corner Bar in Pattaya in under new ownership. After the departure of Michael aka Crabby this bar was taken over by a Belgium, Eddy/Eddie and then by a Dutchman and now, today, by another Belgium(s). So I have been in Pattaya for 4 days and slowly recovering from the flights which seems to take me longer the older I get. The former owner of that bar has gone back into business but I have decided not to go to his establishment because I feel his comments about other customers was unprofessional.
