    • definitely discouraged mine and it comes from guy who at one point considered that best bar in Thailand
    • Dems just always seem "dazed and confused"....   they better get their Shit together fast, or they will allow this country to descend "into Hell in a handbasket"...... Hakeem doesnt inspire any confidence for me....  Schumer is a Relic, stuck in a bygone era.....  Modern, young, progressive voices are mocked, criticized and dismissed.....while our Democracy continues to evaporate.   When 30% of the population can overcome and beat 70%, we have a PROBLEM and are really Fucked !
    • I do not necessarily support it either. But facts are facts. Britain had decades and decades to introduce democracy in Hong Kong. It decided not to do so. Then at the last possible moment several years after formal international Agreements between Britain and China had been signed and registered, Britain through its last Governor made a unilateral decision to change a key part of those Agreements. Those in charge at Westminster were perfectly aware of what China would do - and so will not have been in the slightest surprised when China then did what it said it would do.  I feel for the people of Hong Kong, many of whom remain as good friends. I and they have no doubt whatever that had Patten not unliaterally changed key elements of the two Agreements, Hong Kong would today have greater democracy in terms of electing the Chief Executive and the members of the Legislative Council - granted a slower form of democracy but precisely as outlined in the exact wording in the Agreements which Patten tore up. But there is one more issue that has not been aired in the discussion so far. Hone Kong has about 7 million people. The assumption of many who know little about Hong Kong, is the assumptin that they know that democracy should have been introduced and would be welcomed by all. But they conveniently forget that there are millions in Hong Kong who are in fact pro-Beijing. They did not like the way the British ran Hong Kong. The Board of one company of which I was CEO in the 1980s had several pro-Beijing members, notwithstanding the chaos of the Cultural Revolution which had recently ended. Nothing in Hong Kong is as simple as saying Hong Kong people want democracy. Many don't!
    • This isn't a gay issue but I must recommend a visit to the charming village of Maekampong, an hour or so drive from Chiang Mai. My partner arranged this trip for me without explaining anything about it; he knew I'd like it and wanted to surprise me. He did. In short, it is situated in a beautiful, unspoiled and mountainous country and is distinguished by its wooden houses, tiny temple, numerous restaurants and a commitment to eco-tourism. I didn't see many other falang visitors but it is evidently popular with Thais.
    • If Teixeira's list is a true summary of what's wrong, it still goes back to how Ezra Klein's piece appears to me, that hindsight is 20/20.  It's a little bit late now to realize all of that. Or is it? Corporate media loves to repeat how Democrat approval is in the toilet.  Yet I look at this Blue wave that's predicted for the midterms.  Those two things are so incongruent, it has to be a warning not to count on success too far into the future, without earning voter approval with a better playbook.  We have some clever Dems that can do it, like Buttigieg.   My sense is we are living in a similar time to the Bush Jr. era, when his popularity was so low, the GOP seemed toxic.  Obama was an awesome candidate that came along at the right time.  Back then, after the Obama landslide, Pundits asked if that was the end of the GOP.  If only they'd seen into the future at Ezra Klein's piece. 😉  I don't want to see the Dems "die on that leftist hill" after the midterms, whatever issue might represent that leftist hill.   To quote Teixeira....            So this would be a great time for the left to recalibrate its approach, right? But are they?  To paraphrase George W. Bush: “Is our leftists learning?”     Frankly I'm exhausted by how the left seems to burn everything down if we move to the center.  Even now I've been called names for supporting Talarico. "Your white is showing." "Your racism is showing." etc. When I watched the new Adam Kinzinger documentary on YouTube I interpreted a briefly passing comment he made, that he doesn't expect anything different from liberals.  They don't change.   I hope he's wrong.
