Day 6 Started off with a coconut water on my way to see U for the daily foot massage. Found out it was his day off, and he had come in just for me. Very thoughtful. It was, as always, delightful. From The Thaiger The Bank of Thailand (BoT) denied a claim made on social media that a man lost money from his bank account after recharging his phone at a public outlet. BoT believes the theft occurred because the man was a victim of a malware attack. Police also attributed the theft to malware, stating that the user had downloaded an unsafe dating app called “sweet meet.” The central bank issued a statement yesterday regarding the potential for mobile phone users to lose money through modified charging cables, reported Bangkok Post.Wisanusan Sam-pok revealed in a Facebook post on Sunday that 101,560 baht mysteriously disappeared from his bank account. Wisanusan said he did not use the phone other than to charge it in public. A BoT-Thai Bankers’ Association conducted an investigation and found that malware had infiltrated the man’s phone and tricked him into installing an illegal application. This allowed a hacker to remotely access the phone and transfer money from the user’s bank account while the phone was not in use by the owner. BoT issued a warning to mobile phone users to be cautious when opening unknown links, installing unverified apps, and using unsecured phones to make financial transactions. The bank also advised phone users to keep their mobile banking software fully updated in order to increase security. Deputy national police chief Pol Gen Torsak Sukwimol said the phone owner had installed an unsafe dating app named “Sweet meet” and that was the cause of the money theft.

From the Thaiger Air Canada will launch direct flights to Thailand next month. A Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner will service the route, flying between Bangkok and Vancouver four days per week. That first video showing the aircraft banking steeply to the left is remarkably similar to another turbo prop crash in Taipei 7 years ago. This was the second deadly crash by turbo props run by Trans Asia Airways. Three years earlier it had started international services to Bangkok and Chiang Mai as V Air using I believe an A 320. I should know as I took that flight several times. The accident enquiry found that shortly after take off there was an emergency warning in the cockpit indicating that one of the engines was flaming out. In such a circumstance the engine should be shut down and the propeller blades automatically go into a position that will not affect the speed of the aircraft. The captain decided to turn around and return to Songshan airport (the one on the west side of Taipei). He orders the co-pilot to shut down the No. 1 engine - the one under the right wing. The aircraft quickly loses speed and stall warnings sound in the cockpit. The co-pilot tells the captain that there is now a flame out on both engines and asks how this is possible. Realising that he has shut down the wrong engine, the captain orders the left engine to be restarted. The plane banks steeply to the left and crashes. Even if the captain had ordered the right engine restarted, it is unlikely sufficient power would have resulted to keep the aircraft in the air as it was far too low to the ground. Many errors on behalf of Trans Asia maintenance, the captain's preflight inspection and faulty coordination between the pilots were discovered. Soon Trans Asia ceased all operations.

Time to head back to Silom, so we check Grab and see 250 Baht, so we approach tuk-tuk driver number 1. He says 500. J is not having this. We got to the next driver as driver 1 holds up his hand (5) in an attempt at price fixing. Second driver immediately undercuts him and says 400. J, still not satisfied, approaches tuk-tuk 3. Driver one holds up hand-5. Driver 3 says 400. The process repeats until we are several more tuk-tuks down the line. Eventually we get a driver for 200. J is satisfied with this and we hop in. As we ride past driver 1, J waves at him and holds up 2 fingers. I decide I like this guy! When we get back, I pay the driver 300 Baht- we still got a deal, and he made a little more money. Everyone wins! We settle into some seats at Unicorn to watch the gays pass by. Laughing and chatting and beer- soon we are feeling good and J wants to go to GOD. I do not love crowds, but I agree and we go. It was actually fun, so long as you stay on the balcony level. We dance for a while, but it is soon time to head back to the hotel as the bars are closing. J wants another couple beers for the room, but it's late. We pass by Happy Beer Garden and he asks if we can get a couple to go. The waitress says yes, and calls me by my name! She must have read it on my credit card earlier in the day, and remembered- I was surprised, to be sure. So we get back in the room and J goes to set the bottles on the table and they roll off the table onto the tile floor and CRASH. Thank you! I will be in Bangkok for at least 5 days, and then about 7 days in either Phuket or Pattaya. And then another 10 days or so in Chiang Mai or somewhere else purely for food and tourism (either ruins or some hiking). I'm not planning to go for any boys in those 10 days - that will be pure tourism The earlier posts on Phuket and Pattaya were very helpful.
