My rating of money boys in Thailand is the following: I value Myanmar higher than Thai and Vietnamese lower, based on plenty of experience with Myanmar and little experience with Vietnamese. My experience is the contrary, I value Myanmar people, be it in Myanmar or in Thailand, the highest of everywhere I have travelled in SEAsia. In particular I found that the poorer / more oppressed the people are, the nicer / more generous they are towards me. I don't think so. They (and other migrant workers) do work that no Thai would want to do. If they were causing troubles, the Thai would quickly send them back.

Day 4 So woke up with this guy in bed, had some morning cuddles and hugs. But slightly hungover to do anything. We went to get brunch in silom plaza, short walk from our hotel. Jey Spa I know.. Was really fun - get a bottle for a table, waiters were cute, there were models there too who will come and accompany you at the table and drink with you. Good music and shows, kind of EDM music, models dancing on stage, and playing drinking games at our table. Ended up being real hammerred from all the drinks that I did not remember how I got back to my hotel. I remember leaving the club with Boy 2, and vaguely showering back in the hotel. Yikes. Have to bear this in mind in future cannot be too drunk when im "alone". Apparently Boy 2 took care of me after leaving the club - he showed me a video completely knocked out in the taxi oops.. Slept together and woke up having some morning cuddles and fun before sending him on his way. One of the most fun nights in BKK i've had in a while heh..

Some good ideas here. However, you've not been to Pattaya recently if you find it "tacky". Try staying in one of the North Pattaya hotels: Dusit is the the traditional choice but there are some brand new, very contemporary ones available. Go to the top of Terminus 21, the newest mall, and look out. You won't see anything "tacky" but a replica of Singapore or Shanghai. Some of us may miss "tacky" Pattaya, though its remnants are still there in South Pattaya, itself under redevelopment near Pattaya Tai. Daddy415 is right about Koh Samui but I wasn't impressed by Charweng a few months ago, nor its beach. Try Lamai. Krabi's island beaches are immeasurably superior. Number one for me remains- as I've often said- Chiang Rai. The best night market I've seen in Thailand and wonderful touring.... the Lanna temple in Chang Saen close to the Golden Triangle and, best of all, the Chinese village at Mae Salong....if you can cope with the drive up the mountain roads. If, like me you are attracted to border towns, try Mai Sai. Fascinating.

Apologies in advance, but I am about to hijack this topic 🤪 There's the term "gym rats" which is used to mean folks who spend perhaps half their lives in gyms, obsessively building muscle. Then there's the danger of using such terms in the company of Thais for whom English is not the first language. So... There was once when a newly minted Thai friend and I went to a gym. Neither of us had bodies one would associate with gyms but we thought it would be good to at least do something for fitness sake. So we went. Bad choice. It was a gym for very serious body builders. The men there (I don't recall seeing any women) were almost obsessive compulsive in their workouts, and we looked like pathetic wimps in their company. We got looks (or more likely, self-conscious me imagined we got looks) that kind-of queried us, what are you two doing here? I remarked to my Thai friend that maybe we should look for another gym, at least the next time. "Why? What's wrong?" he asked. "This place is full of gym rats," I whispered, which I thought was more than obvious why. "Eeeeeeeek" ran off my friend. I had to run after him as (this time) real looks focussed on us. I'm pretty sure he never actually saw a physical rat.

From Pattaya Mail By Barry Kenyon Thailand regularly appears in the top ten destinations chosen by foreigners wanting to retire abroad. Unlike other south east Asian countries, Thailand does not offer a retiree visa as such but a number of choices aimed specifically or partially at this market. Non-immigrant “O” visa conversion This is the most popular route at present. A foreigner aged at least 50 enters the country with a visa exempt or tourist visa (30 or 60 days) and applies at local immigration to convert it to a three months non-immigrant “O” and thence to an annual extension of stay based on retirement. Typically, the financial requirement is 800,000 baht in a Thai bank or proof of monthly transfers to Thailand of at least 65,000 baht. The detailed bureaucracy varies in immigration offices nationwide and several embassies now refuse to get involved in certifying the creditworthiness of their own nationals. One big attraction for many of the non-immigrant “O” route is that, to date, medical insurance is not required and the paperwork is fairly straightforward. A foreigner with a foreign spouse will be treated as separate individuals and both must provide the financial guarantee. When leaving the country, re-entry permits must be obtained and the 90 days address reporting is in play. Applicants who are short of cash at the time of application or annual renewal are not forbidden from “borrowing” cash from third parties as the check is only on the amounts in the applicant’s bank book. The cost of the visa is 1,900 baht (US$60) assuming no extras have been accumulated along the way. Non-immigrant “O/A” long stay visa This is a 12 months visa offered by Thai embassies abroad to retiree applicants, with or without a multiple entry built in. The financial requirements are similar to the “O” extension of stay, but there are additional documents such as a medical certificate illustrating freedom from certain diseases. The visa can be renewed annually at Thai immigration offices. The big problem with the O/A option is that comprehensive medical insurance is required from day one and continues with every annual extension. The Thai Cabinet authorized an annual sum of US$100,000 or 3 million baht. Many retirees have tried to get rid of their O/A and change to “O” extension of stay, but this cannot be done without leaving the country and altering visa status overseas. The cost of OA annually is 1,900 baht (US$60) assuming all the documentation is in order. “O/X” ten year retiree visa This little-known option was introduced in late 2016 and offered a ten year multiple entry stay (actually 5×2 years) to retirees aged at least 50 in 14 countries including UK, US, Australia and some EU states. It was available at Thai embassies abroad and at immigration offices in Thailand. The visa never became airborne as the bureaucracy was complex, requiring a crime-free certificate from the home country and an investment of 3 million baht in a Thai bank. Options were available to include spouses and dependent children in the visa allocation. However, the visa did specify that working as a volunteer was OK although no detail was set out. Neither the immigration bureau nor the Thai Cabinet ever issued updates on the visa which is usually assumed to have been stillborn. The fee was 10,000 baht. The Elite visa Current enrolments are said to be around 30,000 all told. The Elite visa is not specifically aimed at retirees and there are no age bars. Although there are several variants, the most popular option is the five years, multi-entry choice currently available for a one-off payment of 600,000 baht and renewable. 10 and 20 year options with family guarantees are also available. Attractions for the retiree market include no need for medical insurance and no requirement to show updated bank account details every year. The visa also includes some special privileges such as fast-track at Thai airports which has been favorably reported by customers, particularly in the past year or so. Long Term Residence Introduced in 2022 by the Board of Investment, the LTR is a 10 year open visa designed to attract high spenders and investors from overseas. The four categories do include one specifically aimed at retirees over 50 which has so far attracted over 1,000 initial applications (32 percent of the total). The wealthy pensioner is expected to show a substantial regular income as well as evidence of investment such as Thai property or Thai bonds. All LTR applicants must show medical insurance. The overall idea is to encourage settlement by foreign millionaires. The LTR has not attracted the international interest originally anticipated and is perhaps best suited to economic experts and investors keen to take advantage of generous tax breaks. The enrolment fee is 50,000 baht and reporting to immigration is once a year rather than three-monthly. Conclusions For retirees, the cheapest and most flexible option is the annual extension of stay, although the Elite visa with its initial down payment and no further financial checks is increasingly being seen in a favorable light. The LTR and the stillborn “O/X” both suffer from complex enrolment bureaucracy and neither offers significant advantages to foreign retirees. None of the visas avoid the need for a work permit for regular employment, although side issues such as being a member of a condominium committee or helping to organize occasional sports or entertainment activities are no longer seen as breaches of the alien labour act. The biggest unknown is the future of medical insurance as a compulsory element in applications. At present, the most popular routes for retirees aged over 50 – the non immigrant “O” and Elite choices – have no such requirement. If that policy was changed and enforced, the proverbial cat would certainly appear amongst the pigeons. Older retirees are the expats whom insurance companies most want to avoid.

Previously posters found the location challenging, but maybe map directions have improved. ● It is a big, airy space but below New Meo Mundo in elegance. ● Manager (owner?) Márcio is a nice guy. ● On my Sunday afternoon around 4pm: 5 clients and 8 GPs. No gym rats. Average to trim built. All handsome shades (none white or black). Only one was really toned. Slightly shy and not at all aggressive. ● Happy to get 100. Probably could have bargained for less but why just to save two dollars? 😱 #1: My first time with a known parolee wearing an electric ankle monitor! (A personal first.) I agree that 2 or 3 days is good for a Khao Yai break. I have the impression that it's a popular weekend trip for Bangkokians. I did it with a tour guide friend of mine who organized a private car and driver, etc. For 2 or 3 days I think Hua Hin is fine. But I can see where a week would get pretty boring unless you're there with some friends. I liked the night market which has many good food stalls and the one next door has lots of art and crafts for sale. I stayed at the D2 which was not ideal for visiting the beach. I think picking one of the places nearer the beach would be a better choice for sure. There are a few beach resorts that looked very cushy when we walked past on an evening beach stroll. I'd have to look at a map to remember names. If you haven't been out to Isaan there are some pretty interesting places out in that direction. I'm always fascinated by old temples, etc so I like Phimai quite a bit as well as Phnom Rung. I did that part of the country as a little 3 day trip where we based on Khorat and did day trips out from there. Lots if big national parks in the north if you're interested in that. Khao Yai is just right for a 2-night stay. You can get there from Bangkok in 2-4 hours by bus, minibus or train and the guest houses run a free transfer from the bus/train stations. Arrive mid-afternoon in time for the evening "jungle tour" on the day you arrive, then a full-day tour for the following day, stay overnight then return to Bkk. Or you can extend your stay with a night camping in the national park. For a longer national park visit with more things to do, (maybe 4 nights) look at Khao Sok. Fly or take the train to Surat Thani, Krabi or Phuket, then a minibus to Khao Sok. Rome2Rio.com will show the possible routes. A mild warning - the minibus between Surat Thani and Khao Sok needs to be booked in advance. For the return journey, check that you have a ticket showing bus time and seat number. If all you have is a voucher for one unspecified journey, you need to exchange it and book a seat at the minibus office at the road junction just outside Khao Sok. (I learned this the hard way ☹️ - having booked a Nok Air "fly'n'ride" package with flight and connecting minibus reservation on the outward journey I assumed I had a bus reservation for the return trip. Not so. They did all they could to get me on a different bus (good), but it didn't go to the airport (not so good). However, the driver kindly found me a mocy taxi for a white knuckle ride to the airport. If I'd missed the flight I'd have been stuck in Surat for a very long new-year weekend.)

Sorry to add that I find Hua Hin incredibly boring!! I stayed for a week at the Hilton hotel which I really disliked - and I like most hotels I visit. Sadly the Hilton had been recommended by a good friend and I had prepaid for the week but I'll never return. Even the beach by the hotel is tiny! Is there anything really to see in Hua Hin apart from the railway station and the Centara Grand Hotel which used to be the old railway hotel? When are you in Thailand? If in late December, Hua Hin can be quite chilly if the winter monsoon is blowing. If you are here in early August, I would definitely get to Ubon Ratchathanee for the Candle Festival Parade on August 3. It's a stunning unique event with all the temples having artisans spend a month carving wax scenes on top of lorries and trucks. Unfortunately you have missed the amazing Dansai Ghost Festival which was in June this year. I had a fabulous time there a few years ago. Sorry again I have little positive to add.

What you and I don't know is what message Putin got from Biden/NATO about what happens if he actually uses nukes. My hunch is that Putin was told that nukes = NATO in some way. Like maybe that's when NATO jets start bombing Russian positions inside Ukraine, but not in Russia. China has probably sent a similar message: that nukes is not good for a bosom buddy relationship. In the shorter term, we agree that Trump is the worst thing that could happen to Ukraine. In the longer term, listening to Mearsheimer I just had this sinking feeling of yet another forever war. He's the first to admit he doesn't know. And he wants Ukraine to win. He is a patriot that graduated from West Point. But he is also a realist who tends to make well educated guesses.

If Russia use tactical nukes in Ukraine, NATO should destroy the Kerch bridges and isolate Kaliningrad. Allowing Putin to use tactical nukes unpunished is a very dangerous step. The main risk for Ukraine at this point, other than nukes, is Trump/GOP winning in 2024 as support for Ukraine from the US will be gutted as will NATO.

The issue is about using NATO ships to transport grain, and whether Russia would attack them. Do I think that alone would trigger World War III? Extremely unlikely. But that is partly because both Putin and NATO are making it clear that they don't want to directly engage each other. The provocation that would really test how far Putin would go is if NATO said, "Sure, Ukraine. Join NATO immediately." They just had a great chance to show they had balls, and do that. Zelenskyy has balls, and wanted just that. But NATO didn't do it. I don't think NATO wants to go to war with Russia. And I don't think Putin wants to go to war with NATO. The somewhat more likely scenario is that many geopolitical analysts think there's a reasonable chance Putin would use nukes to prevent a loss in Ukraine. The most frequent suggestion is that to prevent Ukraine from taking back Crimea and humiliating Putin, he might well launch nukes on Ukrainians. But not against NATO. Who knows? But I would not rule that out. Right now, it doesn't look like Putin is humiliated so much. He's saying the counter-offensive is a bust. Some version of all your arguments were used for years to predict that of course Putin would never actually start a war in Ukraine. Because he isn't stupid enough to provoke NATO that way and become a global pariah. And possibly start World War III. And yet, he did. First in Crimea. And then the whole nation. So the idea that we can predict just how far Putin will actually go hasn't worked so well. I despise Murderous Vlad. And I'd rather have Biden than Trump because Biden will do "whatever it takes" to support Ukraine militarily. That said, at the same time I agree with Mearsheimer's argument I posted above that NATO was stupid to keep ignoring what Putin said about Ukraine and NATO starting in 2008. Even moreso, they were stupid to say to Ukraine, "We've got your back. But not really." So, again, the idea that we can just poke the bear as we wish knowing that of course bears are not stupid enough to go to war hasn't really worked so well. NATO ships would be a different form of the same goading. The thing I most want NATO and the US to do, for now, is keep sending Ukraine whatever it needs to win. But Mearsheimer makes the best argument I've heard to date that Putin simply has more soldiers and more artillery. Which is what wins wars. So Ukraine simply won't be able to "win" as we would hope. He argues that as the war of attrition grinds on, possibly for years, Putin may be able to seize all the Russian-speaking Southern oblasts along the Black Sea. If that happens, it solves the NATO ship problem. Because Ukraine will be landlocked. All of this seems very plausible. The strategy that's been debated since the war started is whether Putin can gradually prevail in a long war of attrition against Ukraine, but not NATO. Right now it's not looking so bad for Putin. I'll up the ante on your question and ask you this. Do we really have the balls to engage Russia directly and militarily? Because that would stop the slaughter. Why fuck around with NATO ships with grain on them? Let's skip that and give Ukraine what they really want: NATO jets with bombs on them. Why not? We could have a real fun competition to see whether US or UK or French or Canadian bombers could take out more Russian soldiers. Fuck all those land mines. That's so World War I. Let's just bomb the fuck out of them. And let's invite Vlad to send his entire military across the border. So we can fry the fuck out of them, too. Without starting World War III. Because, after all, we're only defending Ukraine's territorial integrity. That's what I'd argue the US and NATO would do if we want to prove that we really have balls. That's what Zelenskyy and probably most Ukrainians want. They want us to actually have their backs, with our blood. And if we actually did it, there's probably no more than a 50/50 chance that Vlad would escalate to nukes or attacks on NATO. Because he knows that would escalate to direct NATO hits on Russia. Why not roll the dice? The sobering thing Mearsheimer is saying is if we don't do something like that, which he would probably argue is folly, then we are stuck with a horrific, bloody, and long war of attrition that Ukraine is more likely to lose. Meaning they will never regain the territory they have already lost. And they are at risk to gradually lose more. So then, militarily, our best hope is a stalemate that wrecks Ukraine. And punishes Russia greatly for wrecking Ukraine. I think that's a pretty sobering assessment of the choices we may eventually face, if we learn that the vaunted counteroffensive barely moves entrenched Russian positions. It's entirely predictable that Gen. Petraeus will pop up, yet again, and make the same "surge" arguments that didn't really work in Iraq or Afghanistan. It's a proven recipe for quagmire. So I'll argue we either Go Big and Go NATO and bomb the fuck out of them. Or we start to accept the fact that Ukraine got wrecked. As Mearsheimer predicted for several decades it would if we poked the bear too much. But the good news is at least a smaller version of a Western-oriented Ukraine survived. And Russia's big victory is they get a brand new Afghanistan inside their proclaimed border. Or worse. Because it will be so much easier for pissed off Ukrainians to endlessly kill Russians. As Mearsheimer asked in that video above, "Where does it end?" Excellent question. By the way, since I've cited him a lot, I should mention Mearsheimer is no dove. His core argument is that the real strategic threat is China. He would argue you are right about the military power of nations like Germany, or France, or the UK. @unicorn. He's been saying since the end of the Cold War that NATO could de-escalate and leave a weakened Russia to fight Ukraine, with the direct support of Germany and maybe other European nations. He also argued decades ago, after the collapse of the USSR, that Ukraine should keep its nukes to prevent the bear from ever starting this kind of war. So his strategic ideas have aged well. Mostly he thinks the US and our allies should really be focusing on China. And another forever war in Ukraine is a distraction from that, which was avoidable. I agree with him. That said, we are where we are. And I want Ukraine to win, if they can.

It's the same everywhere with some British expats. Some living is Spain claim they are there because of the "Blacks". Historically, some expats in Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe, and Kenya thought they were there to teach the "natives" how to live, others went to Palestine because "God gave them the land three thousand years ago...it says so in the Bible" and replaced, or tried to replace the indigenous population. The history of British colonialism is a tragic one and the attitudes it engendered are still very much with us. Including in Parliament. The Thais are fortunate that most of the expats- at least the ones I know- are there out of love for the people and respect for the culture.

I do not discriminate between nationalities, only performance, and I have had good times with all the nationalities mentioned. Occasional dud, but I don't even ask what nationality they are. I had a great Burmese guy in Singapore!

Depends just how far you would like to go, Khao Kho can be a nice area to relax for a few days, being up in the mountains it does get a bit cold so it may pay to take warm clothes or someone to cuddle up to. Nature wise there is some incredible views from up there as well as other things to see.

From memory over the years I have only seen several 4 legged rats in the Silom area (probably seen many more after a nights drinks but not in the memory bank), plenty of 2 legged ones trying to scam me into those upstairs sex shows (no chance of that).
