Because I am switching from a temporary employment contract via an agency to a permanent contract directly with my employer, I had some holiday time left to use before April 1st. What better way than to spent that holiday time in LOS? Only a short stay this time. Two weeks in Bangkok and Pattaya. ARRIVING After a few days in Dubai with an old colleague and friend I was flying to Bangkok and arrived yesterday. I had read some comments on this forum (and messages on English language Thai news sites) about enormous waiting times for immigration at BKK Airport and long queues for a taxi into town. But thank god that was not the case yesterday. Immigration was cleared in about 10 minutes and outside I could walk straight to an available taxi. No lines at all. HOTEL Hotel I booked this time is the Quarter Silom Hotel, in the same soi as Tawan bar. They had good offer and the pictures looked good. Indeed the hotel is very modern. Rooms are big enough for my liking. The design is a bit dark. I like the led lighting that you can control the colour from. I arrived at 2pm but unfortunately my room was not ready yet. I had to wait about 1hr for my room to come available. Downsides: my room has a connection door to neighbouring room. Because of that some noise from that other room is coming into my room. But more concerned about what the neighbours might hear coming from my room when I have a visitor... And like more and more hotels you need keycard to use the elevator. No chance in letting a Grindr boy come directly to your room. Need to pick him up from downstairs, with staff probabaly noticing. But also probabaly not caring. Industry Club Calle 26a #43f-72 (sector Apujarra) Hours: Friday – Saturday 10pm – 4 am some Sundays (on most holiday weekends) Everyone eventually ends up at Industry and everyone has an opinion. Some love this place, other loathe it. Industry is the last classic gay dance club still standing in Medellín, packing in the seen-and-be-seen crowd each weekend. This is where you will see the best bodies in Medellín come to strip down and show off the results of many hours at the gym. The crowd runs slightly older (25 – 40) as cover (25.000COP and up) and drink prices are higher than many other local options. Drinks run 12.000COP for beer, up to 180.000COP for whisky service. Drug use, mainly coke, is rampant and open throughout the club. Clutch your pearls as necessary. The club contains two large dance rooms with different styles: the lower features reggaeton and classic Latin pop bangers, while the main room upstairs headlines electronic dance and club music. DJ’s are regularly featured in the main room. Go-go dancers and special shows are presented weekly. Check their Instagram page for weekly events. While dancing is the ostensibly the main attraction, there is plenty of cruising and hooking up going on. The catwalk above the main dance floor is particularly active after 2am. Part of the fun is the late-night crowd outside the club, hanging around for food truck eats and last-chance hook ups. Purple Club Avenida 33 #78-107 (barrio Belén) Hours: Friday – Saturday 10pm – 4 am Purple is the reinvention of Laureles club Viva (RIP). This spot packs in the crowds each weekend for dancing and drag show, with the occasional special performer or stripper thrown in for good measure. Good range of age mixes here. Lots of varied programming, check their Instagram page for upcoming events. The Purple Club is mostly groups out together for a night out so the ambience is very social. You will talk to dozens of people here most nights. Drinks are pricier than other options (10.000COP for beer up to 80.000COP for bottled rum). Tables require bottle purchase and a minimum spend dependant on group size. I have also heard complaints that solo patrons are often denied entry to the club so be forewarned. After the nightly show, the club becomes a raging dance party until close. There is plenty of cruising, groping and making out happening after 1am, with lots of interest around the room. Club Oráculo Carrera 36 #8A-123 (barrio El Poblado) Hours: Friday – Saturday 10pm – 4 am some Sundays (on holiday weekends occasionally) While technically advertised as a space for everyone, Oráculo, (known locally as ¡Oye! Culo) celebrates being queer with art and performances in a cozy dance space. This is not a huge club, but rather something more intimate and interesting. There are also two small rooms to chill out or just relax and chat away from the main room. Weekly theme events include shows and performers that range from high-camp to erotic. There is a lot of thought put into each theme night that make for some terrific shows. Check their Instagram for upcoming events. After the performance, the space becomes a club with pounding reggaeton hits that pack the dancefloor until late. Good mix of clubgoers, but this one definitely leans younger and very balanced male | female | non-binary ratios. Drinks run standard El Poblado pricing, with an excellent selection of cocktails on the menu (cocktail prices 24.000-40.000COP).

The apps made it easier to find customers without having to show up somewhere and gyrate on stage for hours, maybe without an off for days. I'm sure this has helped in the decline too....

Obviously this place is a huge massage factory. My back and neck were giving me some trouble so I thought a real, legit massage was in order. I did a 90 min oil massage. I liked the orange scented oil. No choice of masseurs but I didn't really care. The young woman at the desk took my 700 baht and had me take a seat briefly. Then I was led across the soi to the annex building. Showered down the hall. The sign in the shower about the 20000 baht fine if you poop in the shower gave me some pause. I presume that means it's actually happened in the past. Back to the room and onto the table. The table had a face cut out but was nearly as uncomfortable as a bed without it. The masseur used VERY hard pressure. Ultimately I had to cry out when he did that thing that too many masseurs do of pinching the muscle on the inside of the thigh. It hurts like hell and I had to tell him not to do that. I might have been a little loud in my protest. But he did ease up. Overall the massage was very thorough if totally legit with absolutely no hanky panky suggested or necessary. It was a bit painful though and too rough for me. I actually would have appreciated some slow stretching but his movements were too abrupt. I tipped 500 (I was pointed to the policy of 100 minimum at the cashier desk) because I thought it was fair, not because I was totally happy with the experience. 15M Massage (Saphan Kwai BTS) Today it was off to a part of the city I don't think I've ever visited before. 15M Massage is about a 30 second walk from the Saphan Kwai BTS (exit 3). From The Nation The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is urging tourists to opt for a 15-minute train ride across the Laos border instead of wasting time stuck in traffic on the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge. SRT said on Tuesday that four trains have been plying between Nong Khai and Thanaleng stations since September 16 last year. The train trip costs just 20 baht per person. Tourists are advised to carry their passport or border pass to cross over to Laos and back. The four border trains are: • No 481: Departs Nong Khai at 7.30am and arrives in Thanaleng at 7.45am • No 482: Departs Thanaleng at 10am and arrives in Nong Khai at 10.15am • No 482: Departs Nong Khai at 2.45pm and arrives in Thanaleng at 3pm • No 484: Departs Thanaleng at 5.30pm and arrives in Nong Khai at 5.45pm Thanaleng Railway Station is in Dongphosy Village, some 17 kilometres from Vientiane. I think the Thai gay gold era passed long time ago because of many reasons the main ones : too many regulations imposed by the Thai governmen on entertainment industry, too many restrictions on the immigration policy and prices gone up dramatically. Let's face it Thailand is still beutiful and fun country to visit but not as used to be. I agree many gays found other options in South America mainly Colombia, Brazil and Mexico. I had two long (eight week) visits last year) and generally found Soi 4 busy almost every evening with a mixture of locals and tourists. The show bars there and elsewhere were doing a respectable business. Since I spent much more time in the massage shops, I have more confidence in my comments about those. More than half the time I chose shops in the Saphan Kwai area where I had--with few exceptions--consistently good luck. In the Silom-Surawong rectangle, I found it's hard to miss among the all-male shops on Silom Soi Six. I can't comment on the new 9-Teen shop because it hadn't yet opened before I left. From what I've heard from members since it did open its doors is that the facilities are good but it won't take on non-Thai masseurs. I keep in touch with some of the massage boys I've known for several years and they tell me that business continues to be fairly brisk with international visitors steadily increasing. But even these guys echo what fedssocr says about the midday heat. On sunny days, customers don't tend to arrive in numbers until after 1600 but continue late into the evening. There are many other shops to explore in the area along Surawong, Silom, Silom Plaza, Saladeang and--for those who like to walk--Soi Suan Plu.

There's a couple places on Rama IV that I go to (just around the corner of Surawong), Chula is one and the other is a small store next to it, never had any problems getting my medication (without prescription) from either but I do take in the empty pill packet so they can see exactly what I need.

Roughly speaking D R is double price. As for the quality of guys for hire I would rate them equally. If your preference is black/dark skinned rough guys with big dicks you will like D R.
